Unit 2 The Olympic Games
一、 教学对象分析
本校学生英语水平整体较高,可是学生个性和知识水平差异大。奥运会这个话题并不陌生,但学生对古代奥运会和现代奥运会的异同点并不是很清楚。这篇文章以采访的形式向学生讲述这些知识,教师设计了一些课堂活动,以帮助学生获取信息,进一步激发学生的兴趣,提高课堂的积极性,逐步实现各项教学目标。
二、 教材内容分析
本案例是人教版《普通高中课程标准试验教科书·英语(必修)2》,第二单元阅读部分,本篇课文的标题是An Interview。课文是一个虚拟的采访——两千多年前古希腊作家帕萨尼亚斯与一位北京奥运会志愿者李艳的对话,向学生介绍了古代和现代奥运会的异同以现代奥运会的一些基本情况。随着问题的逐步展开,学生对奥运会的了解也越来越全面。文章的这种设计给学生创设了语言情境,把描述竞技体育这一话题的语言内容变成了生动有趣的对话,让学生有一种身临其境的真实感受。
三、 教学目标
(1)帮助学生掌握重点单词和短语的用法,如 ancient, volunteer, regular, take part in, every four years, be admitted as 等。 进一步帮助学生理解课文中的难句。
(2)帮助学生在阅读的过程中,运用略读,寻读,细读的阅读技巧,提高学生用英语获取信息,处理信息,分析和解决信息的能力。
(3)通过阅读使学生熟悉奥运会,能用英语就奥运会的知识进行互问互答,并能阐述古代奥运会和现代奥运会的异同及现代奥运会的一些情况。
四、 教学过程
Step 1 Warming-up and lead-in (8mins)
(1)视频热身 (4mins)
教师通过播放北京申奥成功的视频,引出奥运会的话题。
T: Just now we enjoy a short video. What is it mainly about?
S: People were very excited because our China succeeded in getting the right to host the 28th Olympic Games.
T: Now Beijing has hosted the Olympic Games successfully. So you know more about the Olympics.
S: Yes.
(2) 奥运知识小测导入 (4mins)
T: So I’d like to give you a quiz to see how much you know about the Olympics. Are you ready?

Ss: An interview is an activity where people ask and answer questions.
T: An interview contains two parts. One is an interviewer, while the other is an interviewee. What are they?
Ss: An interviewer is the person who asks questions. An interviewee is the person who answers questions.

T: Boys and girls, we know Pausanias comes from ancient Greece. After the interview, Pausanias is going to share what he has learnt with his friends in Greece. Help him finish the table about the differences and similarities between the ancient and modern Olympics.

S3: In modern Olympics, there are two sets, that is, the summer and the winter Olympics. There were not winter Olympics in the past.
S4: Now competitors are from all over the world. But in the ancient times, only the people in Greece could take part in the Olympics Games.
S5: Only men were allowed to take part in the past, but now women are also allowed.
S6: In the past, winners got the olive wreath as the prize, but now competitors compete for medals.
S7: The events and athletes in modern time are more than those in the past.
S8: There is a special village for the competitors to live in, a stadium for competitions, and a gymnasium for those who watch the games now. But there were not such places in the ancient times.
T: And what are the similarities between them?
S9: Both are held every four years.

S23: Too many visitors may do harm to the environment of the city, in addition, the venues and buildings may be wasted after the Olympic Games.
