Unit 2 The Olympic Games ‎ 一、 教学对象分析 本校学生英语水平整体较高,可是学生个性和知识水平差异大。奥运会这个话题并不陌生,但学生对古代奥运会和现代奥运会的异同点并不是很清楚。这篇文章以采访的形式向学生讲述这些知识,教师设计了一些课堂活动,以帮助学生获取信息,进一步激发学生的兴趣,提高课堂的积极性,逐步实现各项教学目标。‎ 二、 教材内容分析 ‎ 本案例是人教版《普通高中课程标准试验教科书·英语(必修)2》,第二单元阅读部分,本篇课文的标题是An Interview。课文是一个虚拟的采访——两千多年前古希腊作家帕萨尼亚斯与一位北京奥运会志愿者李艳的对话,向学生介绍了古代和现代奥运会的异同以现代奥运会的一些基本情况。随着问题的逐步展开,学生对奥运会的了解也越来越全面。文章的这种设计给学生创设了语言情境,把描述竞技体育这一话题的语言内容变成了生动有趣的对话,让学生有一种身临其境的真实感受。‎ 三、 教学目标 ‎(1)帮助学生掌握重点单词和短语的用法,如 ancient, volunteer, regular, take part in, every four years, be admitted as 等。 进一步帮助学生理解课文中的难句。‎ ‎(2)帮助学生在阅读的过程中,运用略读,寻读,细读的阅读技巧,提高学生用英语获取信息,处理信息,分析和解决信息的能力。‎ ‎(3)通过阅读使学生熟悉奥运会,能用英语就奥运会的知识进行互问互答,并能阐述古代奥运会和现代奥运会的异同及现代奥运会的一些情况。‎ 四、 教学过程 Step 1 Warming-up and lead-in (8mins)‎ ‎(1)视频热身 (4mins)‎ 教师通过播放北京申奥成功的视频,引出奥运会的话题。‎ T: Just now we enjoy a short video. What is it mainly about?‎ S: People were very excited because our China succeeded in getting the right to host the 28th Olympic Games. ‎ T: Now Beijing has hosted the Olympic Games successfully. So you know more about the Olympics.‎ S: Yes.‎ ‎(2) 奥运知识小测导入 (4mins)‎ T: So I’d like to give you a quiz to see how much you know about the Olympics. Are you ready?‎ ① Where did the ancient Olympic Games start? ( It was in Greece)‎ ‎…..‎ ‎[意图说明]教师用北京申奥成功视频导入,具有形象,生动的特点,能吸引学生的注意力。再设计了一个奥运知识小测,激活学生已有奥运知识,让他们在阅读之前对奥运会的背景知识有个了解。‎ Step 2 Reading (25mins) ‎ ‎(1)Pre-reading (3mins)‎ 5‎ ‎ Look at the title and introduce the words :interview,interviewer, interviewee.‎ ‎ T: look at the title “An Interview”. Do you know what an interview is? ‎ Ss: An interview is an activity where people ask and answer questions. ‎ T: An interview contains two parts. One is an interviewer, while the other is an interviewee. What are they?‎ Ss: An interviewer is the person who asks questions. An interviewee is the person who answers questions.‎ ‎[意图说明] 通过标题,先让学生了解采访,采访者和被采访者。让学生在阅读之前熟悉这种文体。‎ ‎(2) Skimming (6mins)‎ ‎ Ⅰ. Skim the first paragraph to find out ‎ Who are the interviewer and the interviewee?‎ Why has the interviewer come on a magical journey on March 18th, 2007?‎ ‎ Ⅱ. Skim interviewer’s words to find out what questions does he ask?‎ Ⅲ. Summarize the main idea.‎ T: OK, everyone, this time I want everyone to skim the first paragraph and find out ‎ Who are the interviewer and the interviewee?‎ Why has the interviewer come on a magical journey on March 18th, 2007?‎ S1: The interviewer is Pausanias. The interviewee is Li Yan.‎ S2: Pausanias wants to find out the information about present-time Olympic Games.‎ T: Now, skim interviewer’s words to find out what questions does he ask?‎ Ss: …….‎ T: Let’s read these questions aloud together.‎ Ss: ……‎ T: Can you summarize the main idea from these questions?‎ Ss: The passage wants to tell us the similarities and differences.‎ ‎[意图说明] 略读设计了两个任务,第一个是了解文章的人物,第二个是找出Pausanias 问的问题。这两个任务主要是引导学生预测并总结出文章的主要内容。‎ ‎(3) Scanning (pair work) (8mins)‎ After the interview, Pausanias is going to share what he has learnt with his friends in Greece. Help him finish the table about the differences and similarities between the ancient and modern Olympics.‎ Differences ‎ ‎ Modern ‎ Ancient type /set ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ competitors ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ 5‎ country ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ prize ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ events ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Similarities Both are held every ________.‎ ‎☆ Both are held not for money but for ______.‎ ‎☆ ________are allowed to take part in both in ancient and modern Olympics.‎ ‎☆ The mottos are the same. They are: __________________.‎ ‎☆ Some events are the same, such as____________________.‎ T: Boys and girls, we know Pausanias comes from ancient Greece. After the interview, Pausanias is going to share what he has learnt with his friends in Greece. Help him finish the table about the differences and similarities between the ancient and modern Olympics.‎ S: OK.‎ T: It is a pair work. Do with your desk mate.‎ S: OK.‎ T: What about your work? Any pair wants to show your table?‎ S3: In modern Olympics, there are two sets, that is, the summer and the winter Olympics. There were not winter Olympics in the past. ‎ S4: Now competitors are from all over the world. But in the ancient times, only the people in Greece could take part in the Olympics Games. ‎ S5: Only men were allowed to take part in the past, but now women are also allowed. ‎ S6: In the past, winners got the olive wreath as the prize, but now competitors compete for medals.‎ S7: The events and athletes in modern time are more than those in the past.‎ S8: There is a special village for the competitors to live in, a stadium for competitions, and a gymnasium for those who watch the games now. But there were not such places in the ancient times. ‎ T: And what are the similarities between them?‎ S9: Both are held every four years. ‎ S10: Both are held not for money but for honor. ‎ S11: The beliefs are the same. They are: Swifter, Higher, and Stronger. ‎ 5‎ S12: Men are allowed to take part both in ancient and modern Olympics.‎ S13: Some events are the same, such as running, jumping, shooting and throwing. ‎ ‎[意图说明] 寻读的设计主要就是给学生一个情境,让学生帮忙Pausanias找出古代奥运会和现代奥运会的异同。‎ ‎(4) Careful Reading (8mins)‎ ‎1 What amazes Pausanias about the Olympic Games?‎ ‎2 Why does he think Athens and Beijing should feel proud?‎ ‎3 Why does he think people may be competing for prize money in the Modern Olympic Games?‎ T: We have got the main idea and differences and similarities about the Olympics. There are three comprehending questions for you to think about.‎ T: If you have no idea, you can talk with your classmates.‎ Ss: It is a little difficult.‎ T: Anyone wants to try?‎ S14:Pausanias is amazed that all countries and women can take part. ‎ S15: The fact that there are two sets of Olympics also makes him surprised.‎ T: Good answering. What about second question?‎ S16: Every country wants the opportunity. It is a great honor and a great responsibility. So Athens and Beijing should feel proud.‎ T: well done. Use the mind map below to help you.‎ T: At the beginning of the class, we know when our China has been successful in bidding for the 2008 Olympic Games. Everyone was very excited. After we have a good understanding of the Olympics, if you were the leader, do you want to host the Olympics?‎ S: It is hard to say.‎ T: So discuss this question in groups: Why do many countries want to host the Olympic Games while others do not? Use the mind map below to help you. Then prepare for a class discussion. Just like the athletes, the host city spends years getting ready for the event. ‎ S22: Hosting the Olympic Games takes so long a time and so much money to prepare. Building the stadium costs huge amounts of money. ‎ S23: Too many visitors may do harm to the environment of the city, in addition, the venues and buildings may be wasted after the Olympic Games.‎ T: Well done! As every coin has two sides, hosting the Olympic Games has its advantages and disadvantages.
