I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. know some expressions about different weather;
2. talk about students’ favourite seasons.
II. Teaching contents
1. New words and phrases: Words: rainy, snowy, bet, foggy, look cool, with nothing on
2. New structures: Which season do you like best?
It’s the best time to play football outside.
Which is your favourite season?

Describe different kinds of weather in different seasons.

Step 1 Lead-in
1. Free talk
Enjoy some pictures and think about “What is cool?”. Encourage students to think about and talk about the different meanings of “cool”.
When I am very hot and thirsty, cool is a glass of juice with ice.
When I get up in the early morning, the cool wind can make me feel cool.
When I see the picture of Doctor Du, I can’t help shouting “cool”!
People who are so strong are very cool.
A person who is clever at math is very cool.
A person who remembers things well is very cool.
A student who is good at all subjects at school is very cool.
2. Discussion
Show some pictures and talk about the topic “How can we be cool?”. Encourage students to think of more
ideas about how to be cool.
Maybe we can work hard to have some excellent or different skills.
Maybe we can learn to sing “hip-pop” and pop dance. It’s really cool!
Maybe we can dress up in strange and special clothes to make us so strange and so cool.
Maybe we can get stronger and taller because a strong man will make others feel cool.

Step 2 Presentation
1. Listen to the tape and then answer the following questions
What does Eddie want to do?

2. Read aloud by following the tape

B Welcome to the unit
Step 1 Lead-in
A poem about four seasons.
Spring is warm with fog and song, Summer is hot and days are long, Autumn is cool with cloud and rain, Winter brings snow and cold wind again.
【设计意图】通过优美的四季画面和简单易学的诗歌,对学生进行情感教育,激发学生对美好生活的热爱。通过诗歌引出表示天气的词汇。
Step 2 Presentation
1. Show some pictures and learn some new words.

2. Read and try to recite the new words.
3. Watch and answer
Students watch the video carefully and then answer the question “How many kinds of weather are there in the video?”
4. Listen and answer
Listen to Amy and Simon’s conversation and answer these questions.
Which season does Simon like best? Why?
Which season does Amy like best? Why?

Step 3 Practice
1. Encourage students to think of more words about weather.

2. Discussion
(1) Find some proper words to describe each season
(2) Discuss what we can or cannot do in each season

What should/shouldn’t we do on these days?
3. Talk about students’ favourite seasons and weather. Work in pairs and make up their own dialogues.

【设计意图】通过说出图片中的物体引出表达天气的形容词,让学生对表达天气的形容词的构词规律有直观的认识。通过讨论和图片提示,学生知道更多的天气的表达,拓宽了词汇量、丰富了知识,并能将新学知识在下面的教学设计中加以运用。

Step 4 Activity
Talk show time.
Play the role of a weather reporter to make a weather report.
【设计意图】学生通过做天气预报的主持人再次通过口头表达,再次在情景中操练所学的关于天气和季节的生词,现学活用。训练学生的口头语言组织和表达能力,并拓展学生的思维。
