Teaching focus: To enable students to grasp: when somebody always calls their nicknames, how to express their dissatisfaction. Teaching difficulties: How to get students to master the three sentences. Teaching time: 30 minutes. Teaching appliances: Multimedia courseware, some cards, and so onTeaching process: A. Warm-up T: Hello! Friends! Today we are having English class here. Are you happy? Before the class, I have known more about you. But do you know anything about me? Aha! Let’s see. (Play the video) Hi! What’s my name? Yes! Lei Lei. Let the students try to say Hello! Dear Lei Lei! Teach the word dear. I like playing ….? My friend likes playing basketball. B. Presentation and teaching methods I. I’ll show a photo of Yao Ming. T: Who’s he? Does he like playing basketball? Is he my friend? Maybe the students will say No. I’ll show a photo of Yao Ming and I. And say Look! He’s my friend. He’s very tall. What’s his nickname? Teach the new word nickname, His nickname is Little Giant(小巨人). Ask the students why we call him it. Then I’ll show them a photo of Dongdong, my friend. Who’s he? He’s Dongdong. He looks sad. What’s the matter with him? Let’s see. (Play the video) I have some questions, Who’s he? What’s his nickname? He looks … He’s writing a letter to… I’ll try my best to let the students answer He’s Dongdong. His nickname is Feizai. He’s very fat. To Lei Lei. I’ll say Look! Here is the letter. Do you want to read it? (Play the courseware) Teach the word call. Ask them why Dongdong looks upset. Try to answer Donny calls Dongdong Feizai every day. But Dongdong doesn’t like the nickname. That’s the problem between the friends. II. This time the students can guess what Lei Lei’s nickname is. I was very thin before. We’ll read them. I’ll choose one of them to the student who doesn’t have a nickname. And ask him What’s your nickname? Do you like it? I don’t care wheather he likes or not, I’ll show a sentence What should you do? If he likes, he can say Thank you. If he dislikes, I’ll write I don’t like it. Please don’t call me…. You are my best friend. on the blackboard. To enable students to grasp: when somebody always calls their nicknames they don’t like, how to express their dissatisfaction. I’ll say sorry to the student. And send them some good names such as: Xiaotiancai(小天才),Xiaozhuge(小诸葛), Xiaoshentong(小神童). There are another 4 cards in my hand, I’ll let the students to send the cards to the students according to the characteristics of theirs. Practice these three sentences. Next, I’ll invite the 7 students be named nicknames to come to the front and put the cards they like below the smiling face, and the cards they don’t like below the upset face. Then I’ll point to the first nickname on the board and name it to all the students, let them say together I don’t like it. Please don’t call me…. You are my best friend. Now we have found a solution. III. Now! Dongdong wants to write a letter to his best friend, Donny. Let’s help Dongdong to write it. OK? I’ll show a letter which has many blanks. Let them read and fill. And ask them If you are Donny, what should you do? You should say Sorry! I’ll never call you Feizai. Dongdong will be very happy. Yes? C.
