第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。
A
I was asked in an email about learning idioms in a foreign language.Maybe I am different from most people, but I do not bother with them.To me they are kind of dessert of language learning. They come at the end of a meal.Once you have filled up with the solid fare—the key words and phrases that are used in a variety of situations, then you can add a few idioms to spice up things. And by that time you will be able to pick them up naturally anyway.
I find that many learners have an obsession(困扰) with slang and idioms,as if repeating some very colloquial expressions is going to upgrade how they sound in a language. In fact it is the opposite.Idioms are difficult to use correctly. They can easily sound very strange coming from someone who obviously does not have a good sense of the language.
Yes,occasionally you hear idioms or slang and do not understand. But,in my experience, there are always situations where you do not understand. It is best to focus on the most important words, what they mean and how they are used.Certainly,it is best for a nonnative speaker to stick to standard speech.
Some teachers even try to teach the “real language”.Then you hear nonnative speakers saying things like “I gonna” ,“You wanna” etc.I just cringe(厌烦).
You will learn all the idioms you need just by exposing yourself to the language. In general, you can save any phrase that you find interesting, and if that includes idioms,go to it.But I would not make any special effort to go after idioms.I,in fact, avoid them.If I come across something in Russian that strikes me as a particularly slangy or idiomatic use of words,I just leave it aside; do not even bother trying to learn it.If it keeps on appearing, then I will learn it.But I would certainly be reluctant(勉强的) to try to use it.

Both are so much related to each other. And both are so dissimilar! What are the differences between friendship and love? Is platonic(理想的) friendship possible between persons of opposite sex? Let us try and understand.
What is friendship? Why do we call a person our friend? When do we call someone a very good friend? If we care for a person, if we are always ready to help that person and if we share most of our thoughts with a person, they are our good friends. We can always count upon our good friends in an emergency. We are always sure that our friend will understand why we acted in a certain way. We need not explain anything to our very good friends. The friendship is so deep and the relationship is so close, that most of the things are automatically understood by our friends.
What about love? In a relationship of deep love, all the sharing that we discussed above are taken for granted. But love transcends(胜过,超越) all this. During love, we are attached with a particular person, while in friendship, one may have many friends. A loving relationship makes one so much attached to the other, that one gets pained if his/her beloved is hurt! Love also involves a physical element. Friendship does not have that. This is a vital difference. Nature gives us love so that the specie can go forward. Nature does not give us friendship.
Your heart beats will never increase in expectation of meeting your friend. You will not lie awake at night thinking about your friend. You will not feel totally lost, if you don't meet your friend for a few days. You will not have dreams in your eyes thinking about your friend. But in love, you will do all this and much more. Indeed, there is no comparison between love and friendship.

I never thought I would have a lifechanging experience at WalMart.
Although my thoughts were only on speed, the checkout line I was standing in wasn't moving as quickly as I wanted, and I glanced toward the cashier.
There stood a man in his seventies, wearing glasses and a nice smile. I thought, well, he's an old guy!
For the next few minutes I watched him. He greeted every customer before scanning the items. Sure, his words were the usual, “How's it going?” But he did something different—he actually listened to people. Then he would respond to what they had said and engage them in a brief conversation.
I thought it was odd. I had grown accustomed to people asking me how I was doing simply out of robotic conversational habit. After a while, you don't give any thought to the question and just mumble something back. I could say, “I just found out I have six months to live,” and someone would reply, “Have a great day!”
But that wasn't the end.
He gave them the change, walked around the counter, and extended his right hand in an act of friendship. He looked the customers in the eyes. “I sure want to thank you for shopping here today,” he told them. “You have a great day. Byebye.”
The looks on the faces of the customers were priceless. There were smiles and some sheepish grins. All had been touched by his simple gesture—and in a place they never expected. They would gather their things and walk out, smiling.
Of course, he did the same to me and I got to know his name, Marty.
Who was that guy? It was as if Sam Walton had come back from the dead and invaded this old guy's body.
I had never walked away from that shop feeling like that.

The rise of the socalled “boomerang generation” is laid bare in official figures showing that almost one in five graduates in their late 20s now live with their parents.
By contrast, only one in eight university graduates had failed to fly the nest by the same age 20 years ago, research from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows. It also found that grownup sons are twice as likely as their sisters to still be living with their parents in their late 20s. With nearly a quarter of men approaching 30 still living at home, the findings are bound to lead to claims of a “generation of mummy's boys”.
Rising property prices, mounting student debts and the effects of recession on the job market have forced a wave of young people to move back into the family home at an age when they would normally be moving out. Young professionals in their late 20s or early 30s have been nicknamed the “boomerang generation” because of the trend toward returning to the family home having firstly left to study. Recent research has suggested that young people in Britain are twice as likely to choose to live with their parents in their late 20s than their counterparts(对手们) elsewhere in Europe. But commentators warned that the phenomenon may have more to do with young people facing “dire” prospects(景象) than simply a desire to save money. While the proportion of those of university or college age moving out from the family home has continued to rise in the last 20 years, among those in their mid and late 20s the trend has been reversed(颠倒).
Overall 1.7 million people aged from 22 to 29 now share a roof with their parents, including more

than 760,000 in their late 20s, the ONS figures suggest. In 1988 22.7 per cent of men aged 25 to 29 were still living with their parents but last year the proportion was 24.5 per cent, according to the ONS.

Rules are made for people to follow, instead of breaking them. As the picture is shown, we can see that quite a few people are going across the road despite the fact that the signal is red. Some people might be in a rush for an appointment or to work, while others are impatient to wait. So they neglect the rule of crossing the road when it's green light. One disadvantage for the behavior is that the car would not expect the people walking across the street while it's red light, which may even cause a terrible accident. Additionally, if an accident really happens, a lot of people and cars will be affected.
In my opinion, this phenomenon is so dangerous that it should be banned. For our safety, please do not follow the ones who lead themselves to danger! All in all, I believe this phenomenon will be less and less in the future. Let us work together to create a more harmonious society.
