第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
One afternoon last week, I saw three tearful children from my son’s school being comforted by teachers. That morning, my 11-year-old son had stomach pains, retching(干呕)into a bowl. Talking to other mothers later, I heard about other children with stomachache or difficult sleeping the night before.
What caused so much pain? Sports day. Sports day might be necessary at a highly-competitive independent school, but not at a village primary school. For the children who can fly like the wind, sports day cause no problem. For those who are overweight or just not good at sport, it is nightmare(噩梦). Even for those who enjoy running but fall halfway down the track in front of the entire school and their parents, it can prove a disease.
Why do we put our children through this annual suffering? Some may say competition is character building; or it’s taking part, not winning, that’s important; or that’s a tradition of school life. I just felt great pity for those children in tears or in pain.
Team games at the end of sports day produced some close races, wild enthusiasm, lots of shouting — and were fun to watch. More importantly, the children who were not so fast or quick at passing the ball were hidden a little from everyone’s eyes. Some of them also had the thrill of being on the winning side.
I wish that sports day could be abandoned and replaced with some other less competitive event. Perhaps an afternoon of team games, with a few races for those who want them, would be less stressful for the children and a lot more fun to watch.
21. What can we learn about the author’s son from Paragraph 1?
A. He talked with some mothers. B. He comforted his classmates.
C. He had difficulty in sleeping. D. He suffered from stomachache.
22. Sports day is still an annul event in this school probably because __________.
A. this is an independent school B. it is a tradition of the school
12
C. it helps children lose weight D. children enjoy watching sports
23. What does the author think about team games?
A. They should include more stressful races. B. They are acceptable to different children.
C. They should be abandoned at primary school. D. They are less fun for those who love running.
24. What is the author’s attitude towards sports day?
A. Critical. B. Neutral. C. Positive. D. Ambiguous.

For five days, Edmonton's Downtown Park is transformed into one huge stage where artists are able to share their talents, and where people are able to celebrate and enjoy themselves .Since its beginning in 1980,the Edmonton Folk Music Festival has been commemorating(纪念)the true feeling of what folk music is all about and that's the traditional togetherness(友爱)that is felt when people gather to share stories and feelings through song.
This year will be the sixth year when volunteer Riedel will be offering up her time to the festival. "People coming off a busy spring and summer have a moment of relaxation." Riedel said. "It's really easy to relax, and it's great seeing family and friends have fun together." These families and friends come from all different kinds of musical tastes. People who take pleasure in Blues are there, so are people who love Bluegrass. This festival does its best to develop everyone's musical interests.
With so many years of experience, the festival has become a well-oiled machine, and does whatever it can to make attendees feel as comfortable as possible. There are free water stations throughout the venue(举办地)for people to fill up their travel cups. When people buy food, reusable dishes are given a $2 plate fee, but that is returned when the plate is brought back.
The festival has completely sold out of tickets, and in record time .But with big names such as Van Morrison and Jacob Dylan, it’s easy to see how that was going to happen. There is no parking area during the festival, so using the Park and Ride system or Edmonton Transit is highly recommended(推荐). A bike lock-up area is provided and will be available Thursday until Sunday one hour before the gates open until 45 minutes after the gates close.
The Edmond Folk Music Festival begins on Wednesday, Aug 4 with Van Morrison plaything the special donation fund(基金) concert, and will finish up on Sunday, Aug 8.

We have just had a class meeting on the topic---saving money. As we all know, saving money is of vital/great importance. It can help us develop a good habit. Saving money, we can relieve our parents’ burden. We can benefit a lot as well.
After the heated discussion, every one has come up with a lot of valuable, practical advice/suggestions/tips. Some of us suggest keeping away from the snacks. Some think we’d better drink tap water rather than the expensive bottled water. In addition, it is good to set money aside every month. Make a plan before you buy something.
There are many ways to save money. Friends, let’s save money from now on.
That’s all for our class meeting. Thank you.
