Have you ever noticed that you’re treated (对待) differently in stores based on your sex (性别), age, race (种族) and even the way you dress? I certainly have, so I wanted to see exactly what happens inside these stores that are meant to be run with “customer (顾客) service”.

A young man in ripped (撕破的) jeans and an old jacket went into a car shop and asked for a price on the top of the line vehicle (汽车). The salesman looked him up and down and said, “I don’t think you can afford a car like this. Have a look at the inferior cars over here.”

Like many people, I often get disappointed (失望的) when I hear that a book I like has been turned into a film. Sometimes I won’t even watch the film even though I love the story! Here are two main problems with the films that are adapted (改编) from books.
First, the characters are never what we’ve imagined. Even if a novel describes their appearances and characteristics clearly, the film characters are always different from those in the book.
Second, if a novel is long or filled with lots of action and events, it is generally

impossible to condense it into a two-hour film without cutting parts out. If there is an event in the novel that is not something exciting and will not draw the audience’s attention, then it may be cut from the story completely. That may make some people unhappy if they have read the novel. Because they know the story is not completely shown in the film.
We may feel upset (难过的) when watching a film that completely changes a story we like. But sometimes there could be an exception (例外). A film named Silver Linings Playbook, for example, is adapted from a book I love. It is changed a lot from the book. However, it’s as enjoyable as the book. So don’t stop ourselves from watching an adapted film just because it might be different. Maybe there will be one that we’ll love as much as the book.

He was born on December 4th, 1982, in Australia. Unluckily, he was born without arms or legs, but he learnt to swim, get dressed and use a computer and so on. At the age twenty-one, Nick graduated from university. Then he began to travel around the world to give young people speeches on life and dreams. He has spoken to more than 3,000,000 people so far. He has ever visited China five times. In 2008, he visited Chengdu to help the survivors of the earthquake.
