Because of this, developing more positive self talk’s an important way to reduce stress in your life. You can help yourself maintain a positive frame of mind (心境) — which will help with positive self talk — by surrounding yourself with positive energy in your life. You can get that by adding some elements to your life. ‎ Listening to music that not only has a soothing(缓和的)melody, but an uplifting message, can be great for developing positive self talk. Have you ever had a song “stuck in your head” for a few hours or days, the lyrics repeating themselves in your mind?’’ If those lyrics were positive and inspirational, that would be a good thing. It’s a much better mental soundtrack to have than a running stream of complaints, criticisms of self-limiting thoughts, or even songs that had more depressing or sad lyrics. ‎ Books on strength, personal power, enlightenment, or self help can be good resources to help you change your outlook and the things you say to yourself. Rather than bringing habitual self-defeating thoughts, you can find yourself thinking of new can-do concepts when times get tough. ‎ One of the most important ways you can get and keep positive energy in your life is with the company you keep. Do your friends uplift you, or bring you down? Are they critical, or complementary? Ideal friendships provide support when you’re down, fun when you’re up, wisdom when you’re lost, and positive regard. Good friends can inspire you to reach greater heights, and see your strengths even when you don’t always. Pay attention to how your friends make you feel, and if they’re less than supportive, start putting your energy and time toward people who are better suited to be your friend.‎ In addition, positive affirmations can certainly change yourself talk from negative to positive. Now, why not begin working positive affirmations into your life in some creative ways?‎ ‎41. What does the passage mainly talk about?‎ A. Reducing stress by surrounding yourself with positive energy. ‎ B. Adding some elements to your life.‎ C. Getting positive energy from the company you keep. ‎ D. Changing yourself talk with positive affirmation.‎ ‎42. How many ways does the author suggest to maintain a positive frame of mind?‎ A. 3. B. 4. C. 5. D. 6. ‎ ‎43. If you have something “stuck in your head”, you probably ______.‎ A. keep singing the same song for a long time B. keep thinking of this thing all the time C. regard the lyrics of a song as positive D. are developing positive self-talk ‎44. According to the passage, your best company should be those who ______. ‎ A. uplift you or bring you down B. provide fun when you’re down C. encourage you to do things even better D. are less than supportive ‎45. What will probably be talked about in the following paragraph?‎ A. How negative self talk influences a person. ‎ B. How positive self talk reduces stress in one’s life. ‎ C. Some great ways of making great friends. ‎ D. Some creative ways of practicing affirmation. ‎ C ‎ American teenager Thomas Cheatham had planned to study Latin during his sophomore year at Hebron High School in Texas. Latin is less popular in America now.‎ ‎ D. China now is becoming a growing power. ‎ D ‎ Why should I teach my children history? That sounds like a stupid question to even ask. But, as I hear different home schooling teachers discuss history, I get the idea that there may be different reasons for teaching history. Let me briefly explain the three good reasons for studying history and two bad reasons for studying history. ‎ ‎ The major reason I see for studying history is that we can learn from the past. I am convinced that the world would be a much better place if more people understood the successes and failures of the past and the things that made these successes and failures. However, as the unfortunately true statement goes “the one thing we seem to learn from history is that we don't seem to learn from history.” Perhaps at least in teaching history, to my children I can do a small part in changing this. ‎ ‎ A second major reason for studying history is that it is hard to understand the current political climate in the absence of an understanding of its historical context. We can- not even understand why we are and where we are without history, much less(更不必说)try to figure out where we are going or how we should get where we want to be. ‎ ‎ I teach my children history, for one more reason. I purchased a set of historical audio tapes for our children. My seven-year-old son listened to them over and over. It was my hope that he would become inspired by the accomplishments of people like the Wright brothers to accomplish things by himself. I think that it is good that we celebrate the accomplishments of people like Martin Luther King Jr. if, in doing so, young people are called on to stand for the principles that he stood for and accomplish what he accomplished. I also think that by studying people like Adolph Hitler, people can learn to stand against the things that he stood for. ‎ ‎51. What message can we get from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2?‎ A. Many people aren't clever enough to learn well from the past. ‎ B. Many people fail to make good use of history and make the same mistakes. ‎ C. Many people feel it hard to understand history. ‎ D. Many people have no interest in studying history. ‎ ‎52. In Paragraph 3, the author shows that history is useful because ______. ‎ ‎ A. it makes the current political situation go smoothly ‎ ‎ B. it helps us realize the importance of historical events ‎ C. it helps us understand why things are the way they are ‎ D. it helps people accept the present situation where they live ‎53. Some historical figures are mentioned in the last paragraph to show ______. ‎ A. people can be inspired to do good, while also learning to fight against evil B. more celebrations should be held to honor their achievements C. people may also learn from bad historical figures ‎ D. today’s people can also achieve what they achieved ‎54. What would be talked about in the following paragraph?‎ A. How to teach history effectively. ‎ B. Some negative reasons for studying history. ‎ C. How to get more people to study history. ‎ D. Some bad historical figures. ‎ ‎55. The main purpose of this passage is to ______. ‎ A. inspire the parents to teach their children history ‎ B. show the importance of history in politics C. explain the reasons why children study history ‎ D. introduce the writer’s own way of teaching history 第II卷 注意事项:‎ ‎1. ‎ ‎ Bully bosses need to lighten up and wallflower (壁花, 无人注意者) managers would do well to stand up, according to a new study of what makes an effective business leader. ‎ ‎ The researchers found that leaders tend to miss the mark when it comes to assertiveness (决断), either on the side of overly aggressive or Mr. Nice Guy. ‎ ‎ “Aspiring leaders who are low in assertiveness can’t stand up for their interests, and they suffer by being ineffective in achieving goals and delivering results,” said co-researcher Daniel Ames of Columbia‎ University Business ‎School.‎ ‎ Too much assertiveness can be just as, if not more, harmful to a manager’s success. ‎ ‎ “People high in assertiveness are often unbearable. So, even though they may get their way, they choke off relationships with the people around them,” Ames said. ‎ ‎ Ames and Francis Flynn of Stanford‎ ‎University collected leadership information about a group of 168 students enrolled in a Master of Business Administration (MBA) program at an east coast university. Students contacted several former colleagues and had them fill out an online survey. Respondents commented on the students’ leadership strengths and weaknesses.‎ ‎ More than half of the 426 weakness responses included clear references to assertiveness, with about an equal split between too much and too little assertiveness. One respondent stated, “Being highly determined and sharp can be an efficient way of getting things done, but it can damage people’s feelings in the process.”‎ ‎ Carefulness, intelligence and charisma (个人魅力) topped the list of strengths.‎ ‎ The researchers then had a group of 213 MBA students evaluate their most recent manager. They rated the manager’s overall effectiveness, his or her expected future success and their willingness to work for that manager again. Other survey questions focused on social effectiveness or ability to build positive relationships with employees, or the manager’s ability to accomplish set goals.‎ ‎ What breaks a leader? Bossy bosses showed much lower scores for social effectiveness. Weak managers had much lower scores for goal achievement than moderate scorers.‎ ‎56. Please explain the underlined phrase in English.
