What is superpower in your opinion? What superpower would you want to have if possible?
Dreaming about whether you would want to read minds, see through walls, or have superhuman strength may sound silly, but it actually gets to the heart of what really matters in your life.
Every day in our work, we are inspired by the people we meet doing extraordinary things to improve the world.
They have a different kind of superpower that all of us possess: the power to make a difference in the lives of others.
We’re not saying that everyone needs to contribute their lives to the poor. Your lives are busy enough doing homework, playing sports, making friends, seeking after your dreams. But we do think that you can live a more powerful life when you devote some of your time and energy to something much larger than yourself. Find an issue you are interested in and learn more. Volunteer or, if you can, contribute a little money to a cause. Whatever you do, don’t be a bystander. Get involved. You may have the opportunity to make your biggest difference when you’re older. But why not start now?
Our own experience working together on health, development, and energy the last twenty years has been one of the most rewarding parts of our lives. It has changed who we are and continues to fuel our optimism about how much the lives of the poorest people will improve in the years ahead.
25. Why does the author say they are inspired every day?
A. They possess different kinds of superpowers
B. They have got the power to change the world
C. Some people around the mare making the world better
D. There are many powerful people in their life and work
26. What does the author stress in Paragraph 5?’
A. Learning more and contributing more to a cause
B. Rising above self and acting to help others.
C. Working hard to get a bigger opportunity
D. Trying your best to help the poor
27. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. The author believes the lives of the poorest will get better
B. Much more progress will be made in the near future
C. The work on health is the most valuable experience
D. People’s efforts have been materially rewarded

I will never forget the days when I taught art at a school in Chicago. I used Tinkertoys as a test at the beginning of a term to find out something about my students. I put a small set of Tinkertoys in front of each student, and said: “Make something out of the Tinkertoys. You have 45 minutes today-and 45 minutes each day for the rest of the week.”
A few students hesitated to start. They waited to see the rest of the class would do. Several others checked the instructions and made something according to one of the model plans provided. Another group built something out of their own imaginations.
Once I had a boy who worked experimentally with Tinkertoys in his free time. His constructions filled a shelf in the art classroom and a good part of his bedroom at home. I was delighted at the presence of such a student. Here was an exceptionally creative mind at work. His presence meant that I had an unexpected teaching assistant in class whose creativity would infect(感染) other students.
Encouraging this kind of thinking has a downside. I ran the risk of losing those students who had a different style of thinking. Without fail one would declare, “But I’m just not creative.”
“Do you dream at night when you’re asleep?”
“Oh, sure.”
“So tell me one of your most interesting dreams.” The student would tell something wildly imaginative. Flying in the sky or in a time machine or growing three heads. “That’s pretty creative. Who does that for you?”
“Nobody. I do it.”
“Really-at night, when you’re asleep?”
“Sure.”
“Try doing it in the daytime, in class, okay?”
28. The teacher used Tinkertoys in class in order to ________?
A. know more about the students B. make the lessons more exciting
C. raise the students’ interest in art D. teach the students about toy design
29. What do we know about the boy mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A. He liked to help his teacher. B. He preferred to study alone.
C. He was active in class. D. He was imaginative.
30. What does the underlined word “downside” in Paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Mistake. B. Drawback. C. Difficulty. D. Burden.
31. Why did the teacher ask the students to talk about their dreams?
A. To help them to see their creativity.
B. To find out about their sleeping habits.
C. To help them to improve their memory.
D. To find out about their ways of thinking.

Many people now have problems with sleep. Drinking milk is helpful. A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off---if it is milked from a cow at night.
Researchers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin(褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety.
The study, by researchers from Seoul, South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night.
Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.
Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer.
While the effect of cows milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are
struggling to fall asleep at night.
Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of he calcium content, which helps people to relax.
Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.
32. According to the text, the mice fed with daytime milk_________.
A. started sleep more easily
B. were more anxious
C. were less active
D. woke up later
33. Which of the following is true of melatonin according to the text?
A. It’s been tested on mice for ten times
B. It can make people more energetic
C. It exists in milk in great amount
D. It’s used in sleeping drugs
34. What can be a suitable title for the next?
A. Night Milk and Sleep
B. Fat, Sugar and Health
C. An Experiment on Mice
D. Milk Drinking and Health
35. How does the author support the theme of the text?
A. By giving examples
B. By stating arguments
C. By explaining statistical data
D. By providing research results

With the development of society, the life span of humans has stretched. Both men and women are living longer these days in industrialized countries. 36 In general,
they can expect to live six or seven years more than men. One reason for this is biological.
One important biological factor that helps women live longer is the difference in hormones between men and women. 37 Between the ages of about 12 and 50, women produce hormones that are involved in fertility(生育能力). These hormones also have a positive effect on the heart and blood flow. In fact, women are less likely to have high blood pressure or to die from heart attacks.
___38 They help the boy defend itself against some kinds of infections. This means that women generally get sick less often and less seriously than men. The common cold is a good example: women, on average, get fewer colds than men. 39 Scientists are still not exactly sure how genes influence aging, but they believe that they do. Some think that a woman’s body cells have a tendency to age more slowly than a man’s. Others think that a man’s body cells have a tendency to age more quickly. 40
A. However, women, on average, live longer
B. The biological factor plays an important part
C. Women are also helped by their female genes
D. The female hormones also protect the body in another way
E. Recent research seem to support both of these possibilities
