The most important lessons in life that we need to learn are the results of our poor decisions. Although time and experience are the best teachers, we also suffer from experiences such as our sacrifices, suffering and the hardships. Good judgment develops only when we truly learn from our mistakes. However, many people keep repeating the same mistakes before learning their lessons because as they say, they are just humans who are subject to making mistakes.
Our weaknesses in life can be turned into our strengths if we immediately acknowledge and recognize the fact that we mess up and learn from them. Our good or bad experiences help us learn better judgment in life. Yet, too many people are in denial and place the blame on others without realizing that the minute they take responsibility for their action is when the learning process begins. Aside from learning from our own experience, we can also learn valuable lessons from the experience of others. It allows us to observe our behavior from another angle. When we recognize our mistakes and prevent them from happening again, we are, therefore, learning.
Quickly identifying our mistakes and changing behavior accordingly requires less time and energy than denying mistakes. However, acknowledgement of mistakes requires belief in the idea that the perfection is not possible.
It is easier to analyze our mistakes especially when we talk to others, which can help people to sort out comments or criticisms after a mistake is made. Despite our tendency to avoid mistakes, timely acknowledgement is one of the best ways to prevent them from repeating.
24.. What does learning from the experience of others help us do?
A. Re-evaluate our behavior differently.
B. Realize that mistakes are part of life.
C. Recognize the results of mistakes.
D. Learn better judgment in life.
25.. What should we keep in mind to admit our mistakes?
A. Every man has his faults.
B. Mistakes are great teacher.
C. Behind bad luck comes good luck.
D. As you make your bed, so you must lie in it.
26.. According to the author, how should we avoid repeating mistakes?
A. Think twice before acting.
B. Learn carefully from others’ comments.
C. Have a timely talk with others for advice.
D. Admit the existence of mistakes in time.
27.. Which of the following opinions does the author intend to convey the most?
A. Never be afraid of making mistakes.
B. Learn wisdom from our mistakes.
C. Learn from others to see our mistakes.
D. Stop being ashamed of making mistakes.

Compared to the vast crowds of people expected to gather at Stonehenge(an ancient circle of tall stones in England) to celebrate the winter solstice (冬至), the same day’s event at the Newgrange tomb in County Meath ,Ireland is a rather different affair. Just 120 people get the privilege of standing inside the monument to witness the remarkable illumination (照亮) that occurs when a ray of sunlight floods the entire 19-meter stone passage in a warm orange light.
We don’t know exactly what people were thinking 5,000 years ago when they built this prehistoric structure, which takes the form of a large grass-covered mound(土墩). Its only entrance is aligned (成直线) with the rising sun on the winter solstice, when sunlight shines through the roof box over the entrance and penetrates(穿透) the passage to light up the chamber. And for six days each year. Around the winter solstice, the effect is at its peak.
To manage the incredible demand from those hoping to experience this wonder, the Bru na Boinne visitor center runs a lottery (an activity with an outcome dependent on chance) to decide on who will be allowed to enter. And this year 29.503 people applied for the privilege. Each winner is allowed to bring a guest, with 20 people taken inside each morning for the six days of winter solstice sun. People have travelled from all over the world to experience the event , which lasts just 17
minutes.
Archaeology teacher Michelle Thick had to beg for the day off work after she win a golden ticket for last year’s solstice. “Being in the inner room was really magical and the period of time when I held my breath waiting in silence for the moment the light breaks down the room floor was exhilarating,” she says.”The light comes very gradually at first and then casts across the floor until it lights up the back of the tomb.”
As for those who don’t win the Newgrange lottery, visitors join in the winter solstice festivities by gathering outside the monument, with some people jumping around excitedly and drumming.”Last year nearly 1,000 people came on December 21st,” says Clare Tuffy, manager of Bru na Boinne visitor center.
28.How is Newgrange different from Stonehenge in the winter solstice?
A. People celebrate the day by staying inside for six days .
B. Visitors to the event are required to keep silent.
C. It attracts more foreign visitors than Stonehenge.
D.Only a small number of visitors are allowed inside.
29.Which shows Newgrange’s wonder on the winter solstice?
30.What do we learn about visitors to Newgrange ?
A. They can enter with up to 20 people.
B. They run a lottery in it.
C. They stay there for a whole day
D. They try their fortune
31.What does the underline word “exhilarating” in Paragraph 4 probably mean ?
A.Surprising
B.Thrilling
C.Heartwarming
D.Disappointing

“Echo, turn on the lights. Echo, set my thermostat to 72 degrees. Echo, PLAY ‘Wheels on the Bus,’” I talked to Amazon’s Echo speaker in front of my 18-month-old son Jack. Echo understands and responds to an ever growing set of orders, Every time I said “Echo,” Jack’s eyes shot up to the cylinder-shaped(圆柱形的) speaker atop the refrigerator, its lowing blue light indicating it was listening . Then, one day , the inevitable happened:”Uggo!” Jack barked. “Bus!”
After I explained to Jack that it’s not nice to call someone an uggo, I saw myself through my son’s word. Sure, Echo doesn’t care how you talk to it. But to Jack, I must have seemed like a tyrant(专制君主). And by following my lead, he became a little tyrant. This dilemma is likely only to grow as voice-based artificial intelligence becomes more commonplace. Already, Apple’s iPhone and iPads have Siri; and Micosoft has Cortana.
Like most parents , my wife and I hope Jack grows up to be kind. My exchanges with my technology have clearly been setting a bad example. But how exactly to talk to our technology is far from clear. “The issue of ‘please ’ is huge. It’s one of the foundations of etiquette( 礼仪),” says Lizzie Post, the great-great-granddaughter of America’s best-known expert on manners. “Kids model the behaviour of the parent, and if you want your child to be using the word ‘please’ often, you need to use it often too.”
So now I say “please” as much as I can. I say it to my wife, my son’s teddy beat, Siri, C ortana, even my dog. But not everybody agrees. Oren Etzioni, CEO of the Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Seattle , is one. “I don’t say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ to my toaster.” he argues.”Why should I say it to Echo? I’d be worried that he’d get confused in the same way that we don’t want our kids to think Superman is real and then jump off something,” he says.
32.What do we know about Echo ?
A.It looks like a ball.
B.It sits on the fridge.
C.It responds to all orders.
D.It is Jack’s favorite toy.
33.Why did Jack bark according to the author?
A.It was just unconscious copying.
B.It was a way to show his anger.
C.He enjoyed acting like a tyrant.
D.He wanted to let Echo hear him clearly.
34.What is Oren Etzioni worried about ?
A.His son will be over polite.
B.His son will be rude to others.
C.His son will be addicted to Superman.
D.His son will confuse technology with humans.
35.The tone of the passage is
A. Admiring B. Indifferent C. Subjective D. Objective

What is a dream?
For centuries, people have wondered about the strange places that they seem to visit in their sleep.__36._
However, they have been valued as necessary to a person’s health and happiness.
Historically people thought dreams contained messages from God.It was only in the twentieth century that people started to study dreams scientifically believing that they tell about a person’s character.__37._ He believed that dreams allow a person to express fantasies or fears, which would be socially unacceptable in real life.
The second theory to become popular was Carl Jung’s compensation theory.Jung,a former student of Freud, said that the purpose of a dream is not to hide something, but rather to communicate it to the dreamer.
__38.__Thus,people who think too highly of themselves may dream about falling;those who think too little of themselves dream of being heroes.
Using more recent research,William Domhoff from the University of California found that
dreaming is a mental skill that needs time to develop in humans.__39._ Until they reach the age of five, they can not express very well what their dreams are about.Once people become adults, there is little or no change in their dreams. The dreams of men and women differ. For instance, the characters that appear in the dreams of men are often other men,and often involve physical aggression.
The meaning of dreams continues to be difficult to understand.__40.__If you dream that a loved one is going to die,do not panic. The dream may have meaning, but it does not mean that your loved one is going to die.
A. First,there was Sigmund Freud’s theory.
B. Children do not dream as much as adults
C.They have been considered as meaningless nighttime journeys.
D.It gives scientists chances to better understand human mind.
E.However, people should not take their dreams as reality.
F.They think their mind is trying to tell them something.
G.Dreams make up for what is lacking in waking life.
