But have you ever thought about this expression? When a cat is frightened, its heart starts beating faster, its muscles get tense and there are changes in the chemicals in its bloodstream.Although the cat doesn't realize this, its body is getting ready for action. If the danger continues, the animal will do one of two things. It will protect itself, or it will run away as fast as it can.‎ Something like this also happens to people. When we are excited, angry or scared by other feelings, our bodies go through many physical changes. Our hearts beat faster, and our muscles get tense. All of these changes make us more alert and ready to react. We, too, get ready to defend ‎ ourselves or run.‎ Human beings, however, have a problem that animals never face.If we give way to our feelings and let them take over, we can get into trouble.Have you ever said something in anger or hit somebody and regretted it later? Have you ever shouted at a teacher, told somebody you were lonely, or said you were in love, and then wished later you had kept your mouth shut?It isn't always clever to express your feelings freely.‎ Does this mean that it's smarter to always hide our feelings? No!If you keep feelings of anger, sadness hidden away or bottled up inside, your body stays tense.Physical illness can develop, and you can feel disturbed badly inside. It can actually be bad for your health. It isn't good to keep pleasant feelings inside either; all feelings need to be expressed.‎ Feelings that you keep all bottled up inside don't just go away. It's as if you bought some bananas and put them in a cupboard. You might not be able to see them, but before long you'd smell them. And if you opened the cupboard, chances are that you'd see little fruit flies flying all over them. They are bad.‎ You can try to treat feelings as if they were bananas in the cupboard. You can hide them and you can pretend they don't exist, but they'll still be around. And at last you'll have to deal with them, just like those bananas.‎ ‎29.When people and animals are aroused by fear,________.‎ A.they may get ready to attack or run away ‎ B.their muscles get neither tense nor relaxed C.their hearts beat either faster or slower D.they feel very regretful immediately ‎30.Why do human beings get into trouble according to the passage?‎ A.They are usually not as alert as animals.‎ B.They always do something wrong to other people.‎ C.They sometimes can't control their feelings.‎ D.They don't pay attention to their physical changes.‎ ‎31.What can we infer from the passage?‎ A.Feelings will gradually disappear when you hold them in.源:学。科。网Z。X。X。K] B.Bananas stay fresh longer when they are in a cupboard.‎ C.Holding in your feelings may lead to unpleasant results.‎ D.It's good for your health to keep pleasant feelings inside.‎ ‎32.What is the purpose of this passage?‎ A.To tell us that people's feelings are like bananas in a cupboard.‎ B.To give us some advice on how to express our feelings.‎ C.To prove that it isn't always wise to express our feelings freely.‎ D.To help us deal with feelings in a wise and proper way.‎ D When Columbus‘sailed the ocean blue in 1492’ he wasn't looking for America, he was searching for a route from Spain to China; America just got in the way.‎ The Spanish were after the riches of Asia: silk, dates, spices.Until later adventurers discovered how to sail to the Far East, trade with China depended on the Silk Road. The trade between China and Europe brought huge wealth, so the Spanish had a strong desire to find a new way to the East.Eventually a way appeared; as sea traffic developed from the 17th century onwards, the overland route diminished.‎ Now China is seeking to revive(复兴)the Silk Road and is preparing to invest 4 trillion pounds in new roads, rail links, oil pipelines and other basic facilities. It is hoped that goods can be shipped westwards by land far more quickly and economically than by sea.‎ But the plan is also to attract more tourists.Actually, China does pretty well for tourists already; it's the world's fourth most visited country. Two cities—Beijing and Shanghai—possess the tourism business, with significant interest in destinations such as Xi'an and Chengdu. While Beijing is modern, cities such as Lanzhou and Dunhuang have one foot planted firmly in old China.‎ Other places featured include Xi'an,the former capital of China, where you can come face to face with the Terracotta Army built to protect China's first emperor in the afterlife. From Lanzhou tour members take the train to Jiayuguan, China's western gateway and a key location on the Silk Road.‎ There is also a fourday coach journey along the original Silk Route through the Xinjiang region to Kashgar.Along the way, at Kurla, you can visit the ruins of the Iron Fortress.‎ ‎33.What does the underlined word“diminished” in Paragraph 2 mean?‎ A.Discovered. B.Disturbed.‎ C.Disappeared. D.Displayed.‎ ‎34.What is the purpose of reviving the Silk Road?‎ A.To make transportation westwards faster and cheaper.‎ B.To construct new roads and other basic structures.‎ C.To rebuild the ruins of the Iron Fortress.‎ D.To draw more inland tourists' attention to the western gateway.‎ ‎35.What is the best title for the text?‎ A.The function of the Silk Road. D.The future of the Silk Road.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分, 满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ ‎ Protecting your eyesight is one of the most important things you can do to help maintain your quality of life. 36 Consider these simple guidelines:‎ ‎ Protect your eyes from harmful UV(紫外线的) light. When you stay outdoors during daytime, always wear sunglasses that protect your eyes from 100 percent of the sun’s harmful UV rays. 37‎ ‎ Look for warning signs of changes in your vision. 38 Some trouble signs to look for are double vision, hazy (模糊的) vision and having difficulty seeing in low light conditions. Other signs and symptoms of potentially serious eye problems that require immediate attention include red eyes, frequent flashes of light, eye pain and swelling.‎ ‎ 39 A comprehensive eye exam, including enlarging your pupils (瞳孔), can determine your risk for major eye diseases that have no early warning signs or symptoms. An eye exam also can make sure that your prescription for eyeglasses or contact lenses (隐形眼镜) is up to date. ‎ ‎ 40 But keeping a healthy lifestyle and having regular eye exams will certainly decrease your risk of developing a sight-stealing eye problem that otherwise might have prevented.‎ A. This may help reduce your risk of cataracts(白内障) and other problems.‎ B. Test your eyesight for free in an online eye exam.‎ C. In a word, eye care is very important, no matter how old a person is.‎ D. With a little careful and loving care, you can keep your eyes healthy as you age.‎ E. As a result, more and more students try to study from early morning till late afternoon, even during the ten-minute break.‎ In my opinion, to take a ten-minute break between classes is definitely necessary. Otherwise we will feel tired both physically and mentally. During the ten-minute break, we do something to get rid of tiredness. What we need is to have a real rest, instead of getting more tired. So doing nothing tiring in that period is really good for us.‎ My ten-minute break is always pleasing. Sometimes I do some simple exercises. Sometimes I have a free chat with my classmates or just take a walk outside. When the next class begins, I feel fresh again.‎ Experience tells me that making progress needs a thorough and persevering process, but we all know people who can’t find time for recreation are obliged sooner or later to fail.‎ Listening materials: ‎ 1. M: Does this bus go to the beach?‎ ‎ W: No. You’re going the wrong way. You want the No. 11 bus. It stops in front of the post office.‎ 2. M: You look sleepy this morning, Beverly. Did you go to bed late last night?‎ ‎ W: No, I slept through my alarm this morning, so I didn’t get a chance to shower.‎ 3. W: Bread, milk, eggs. I think that’s all we need. So, do you want to go with me?‎ ‎ M: Sure. I’ll drive. Don’t forget to write down sugar and chocolate, though. They are the most important materials.‎ 4. W: It’s so nice to see the animals in large open spaces, closer to their natural environment. I wasn’t expecting this.‎ ‎ M: I know. Some zoos can be disappointing. At least these animals seem happy.‎ 5. M: It was the third time that Roger had phoned me to say he had a new job. It was so surprising.‎ ‎ W: It’s difficult to keep a young man in one job for life nowadays. Well, times are changing.‎ 6. W: Congratulations on your new job. I know you worked hard for it. Cheers!‎ ‎ M: Cheers! It has been a pleasure working with you all these years. I’ll make sure to come back and visit next month.‎ ‎ W: You’d better. Work won’t be the same without you. So, when do you start?‎ ‎ M: I went in today to fill out some paperwork, but I won’t start until the following Monday. ‎ ‎ W: That’s great. Let me pay for your lunch. It’s my turn, anyway.‎ ‎ M: No, it’s all right. I owe you for everything you have done for me.‎ ‎ W: Thanks. So, I’ll see you tomorrow, then?‎ ‎ M: Of course. Bye.‎ 1. M: Great job on your chemistry test, Anna! This is your second “B” in a row!‎ ‎ W: “B-plus” actually. So there is small improvement, Dad.‎ ‎ M: So what have you been doing? You used to be a “D” student before.‎ ‎ W: I’ve joined a study group. Our members discuss all the difficult stuff, and we test each other all the time.‎ ‎ M: Great idea. Maybe you will have more time on the weekends to go out with your friends. How did you find the study group?‎ ‎ W: I saw a notice on the message board at lunch one day. I decided to check it out, and now we meet once a week after our last class of the day.‎ ‎ M: So that’s why you’ve been coming home late. Good for you. So, you’re not nervous about your chemistry tests anymore?‎ ‎ W: Not at all. I am more prepared than ever.‎ 2. W: Jonathan!Look at all these dirty clothes! Grab your laundry basket. It’s time to teach you how to use the washing machine.‎ ‎ M: Oh, Mom! Do I have to?‎ ‎ W: Yes. You’re 16 now. I was doing laundry when I was half your age. Your sister has been doing it since she was 10. So, it’s your turn to learn.‎ ‎ M: Fine. It’s just that there are so many buttons and settings..‎ ‎ W: It’s easy once you know how to do it. This is the “load” setting. Choose small, medium, or large based on how many clothes you’re washing. I’m sure you can figure that out for yourself.‎ ‎ M: I can do that.‎ ‎ W: Good. Next, you choose the temperature. Cold, warm, or hot. Just use cold for now, and I’ll deal with anything that needs to be washed in warmer temperatures.‎ ‎ M: And the spin cycle?‎ ‎ W: That is for how fast the machine turns. “Normal” is what you will be using for most of your clothes. Heavy“ is for your jeans and towels. “Light” is for your sheets and pillow cases, but I’ll do those for you.‎ ‎ M: You know what, Mom? Washing clothes is actually pretty easy.‎ ‎ W: Everything is, once you know how to do it.‎ 3. W: Why are down here again?‎ ‎ M: We are looking for a box marked “Christmas decorations”. What’s the matter?‎ ‎ W: I don’t like cold, dark places. I feel like I’m in a scary movie. Also, I hate rats.‎ ‎ M: What’s wrong with rats?‎ ‎ W: They are dirty creatures that spread disease.‎ ‎ M: I don’t see them that way. They’re like us, I think. They are very social, and they get sad when ‎ they are alone.‎ ‎ W: You’re strange. Hey, is that the box on the shelf?‎ ‎ M: No, those are the Halloween decorations.‎ ‎ W: Ah! I just walked right into a spider web!‎ ‎ M: Did you know that even though almost all spiders have poison, less than one percent are harmful to humans?‎ ‎ W: Whatever! There are the Thanksgiving decorations, on that sofa.‎ ‎ M: There it is, under that bench. Can you hand me that pole by the ladder? I can use it to drag the box out.‎ ‎ W: Here you are. I’m going to stand on this chair until you’re ready to go back up to the living room.‎ ‎ M: Stop worrying. There are hardly any spiders down here. Trust me!‎ 1. Have you heard of the Golden Rule? The great Chinese philosopher Confucius taught this principle. It is a very important and well-known idea. The rule says not to do anything to other people that you would not want them to do to you. It is a very simple yet deep truth. Confucius possessed a lot of important wisdom like this. He encouraged many values like children respecting elders, people respecting their ancestors, and wives respecting husbands. He desired for these moral principles in people’s lives and in the government of the country. He believed that people should develop their own personal rules instead of simply memorizing rules of behavior to follow. He also had a thoughtful way of teaching. Instead of presenting his ideas through arguments and reasoning, he taught his rules through personal examples. He himself studied hard and sought truth, dreams and a perfect personality. In short, Confucius aimed to establish a world of harmony. For over two thousand years, his teachings and beliefs still have a great effect on Chinese culture. Many other cultures around the world have also been influenced to this day by these important moral teachings.‎
