Starting Cycling
We have two services designed to give people the confidence and knowledge to cycle successfully.
Lessons
All our instructors have been trained to National Standards level of “Bike-ability”. This means you will be trained to a standard consistent across the whole country.
There are 3 levels of skills to progress through. Children would start with levels 1 & 2, progressing from the playground or park to cycle on less busy local roads. Teenager and adult beginners can also learn levels 1 & 2 in an off-road and quiet environment.
Confident teenagers and adults can broaden their skills by learning level 3, using multi-lane roads and larger roundabouts(环形交通枢纽). We provide both a complete package of lessons for the beginner or individual lessons tailored to the client. Whatever the need we can address and practice until perfect!
Cost is £30 per hour.
Guided Ride
We know that riding on the roads in London can be scary, and if you have to navigate (确定行车路线) as well it can become a real hard task! The Guided Ride service takes all the stress out of it for you by providing the following:
Route planned in advance to suit your skill level. Route map provided to you.
Cycle and equipment checked. We will teach you a simple method to check basic roadworthiness (车辆性能) of your bike that you can perform on a weekly basis.
Route discussed and focus given to any areas requiring special attention.
Cycle along with the instructor close behind. Here the traffic can be controlled by the instructor and rider observed.
We currently cover London Zones 1 & 2. Please contact us if your requirements are outside of these areas.
Cost £30 per hour.

The setting was a packed gymnasium just before the start of a game against another school. There were five girls who were members of the Danville High School basketball team—all of them starters. They were not in uniform to play that night and would not be on the team for the rest of this season. They were there to admit their breaking of team rules. They were there to support their coach’s decision to take them off the team. They were there to let the town know there was a problem in their little community that needed to be addressed. And they did it with sincere regret rather than defensiveness.
While the school had been out for the New Year’s holiday, the five girls had gone to the party with several of their friends. There was alcohol there. And they all drank some.
Coach Rainville has a zero tolerance rule on drugs and alcohol for her members though it was a hard decision to make. When classes resumed(重新开始) and accounts of holiday parties were shared, rumors about the five girls began closing in on them. The coach said she couldn’t back down on her
rules. And the players—two junior students and three senior students—agreed. That night in the gym was part of their public support of the coach’s decision.
“We hope you will understand that we are not bad kids. What we did was definitely not worth it. We hope this event will make everyone realize that there is a big drug and alcohol problem in our community,” one of the senior students said, “And if you work with us to try to solve this problem, you will help us feel that we have not been thrown off our basketball team for nothing.” The five left the floor to deafening applause.
The team may not win another game this year. But they’ve learnt something about personal responsibility, the effect of one’s action on others, and honesty that will serve them well throughout life.
24. It can be inferred from the passage that the five girls who were kicked off the team were ________.
A. very good players on the team
B. addicted to alcohol and drugs

A. They didn’t fight for Danville High School any more.
B. They all gave speeches to apologize in the local press.
C. They admitted their mistake in public in the gymnasium.
D. They would never drink any alcohol throughout their life.
26. Which word best describes the coach Rainville?
A. Indifferent. B. Strict. C. Stubborn. D. Cruel.
27. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. Growing up with pain B. A bad mistake

Ever since I started my freshman year in another state, I’ve realized that people make many assumptions about college students, many of which are based on partying. Even my sociology professor jokingly told our class; “If your motto isn’t ‘I am partying therefore I am,’ you’re collegeing wrong.”
Whenever I say partying isn’t fun, I get the same response; wide-eyed stares, dropped jaws and a resounding “Seriously?” which makes me feel like I’m being judged.
Don’t get me wrong – I’ve tried to enjoy dancing in hot, crowded spaces to loud rap music. But at last, I’ve always escaped to an empty corner while trying to ignore rude, crazy people. I wondered if I was weird for wanting to stay in on a Friday night to read a book. I even questioned whether or not I was living the “authentic” college experience.
“Maybe you - a shy boy - just need to go out more.” Friends have said. Suggestions like these make me think about food. Have you ever tasted something that someone else really likes and you don’t? When that happens to me, I have a habit of eating more hoping that it will eventually taste good. Does that ever work? No.
For me, partying is a lot like that. From what I can tell, I’m just not a fan. I’m not trying to set myself apart - I just have a different definition of fun.
As you begin to think about your present college life, I hope this helps you realize that there isn’t just one way to experience college life. Some turn up at a party to relax. I turn to a good book. Which option have you made in college? And remember: college is a place where you can keep yourself originally. It means not going with the flow and means figuring out what you want for yourself, originating your own values and thinking a way towards your future success.
28. What should college life be like in most peopled opinion?
A. Making assumptions is part of college life.
B. Everyone will do something wrong in college.
C. College students are involved in partying.
D. College professors seldom joke college students.
29. What does the author think of college parties?
A. Comfortable. B. Boring C. Unavoidable. D. Exciting.
30. The author talks about food in the fourth paragraph because ________.
A. he likes eating tasty food at parties.
B. there is much food at college parties.
C. he wants to compare food to parties.
D. he is really a food fan.
31. What is the author’s purpose to write this passage?
A. To remind college students of what college means.
B. To introduce what subject students can learn in college.
C. To share some good choices most college students have made.
D. To-show his strong support lo the present college life.
D
No evidence shows that the key to learning a new language is surrounding yourself with native speakers of that language. But what if those native speakers are Dora the Explorer and Diego?
It turns out television and radio might be even better tools for new language learners than previously thought. According to two recent studies by Scientific American, it is possible to further your understanding of a new language without actively practicing or fully paying attention.
For starters, research published in the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America suggests that language learners who focus continuously on learning new sounds keep no more information than those who take occasional breaks. While one group of study participants practiced distinguishing three difficult Hindi sounds for one hour a day over the course of several days, another group alternately(交替地) spent 10 minutes on learning and 10 minutes on an intentionally distracting(使人分心的) task as the Hindi sounds played in the background. When tested on the sounds, the distracted group performed just as well as the focused group.
And a following study published in the Journal of Memory and Language further validates the power of inactive learning. Researchers found that Spanish students learning the Basque accent improved less when they were instructed to repeat sounds back during their training; listening to new sounds silently actually resulted in better memory.
So, is it time to lay off your tutor and buy a box set of Cordon Salvaje? Not quite. While this growing body of research suggests inactive language learning is an amazing tool in your language learning, the value of focused practice cannot be ignored. “You need to come to class and pay attention,” says Melissa Baese-Berk, a language expert and co-author of one of the studies, “But
when you go home, turn on the TV or turn on the radio in that language while you’re cooking dinner, and even if you’re not paying total attention to it, it’s going to help you.”
So get out there and learn… but not too hard. While you’re at it,it wouldn’t hurt to improve your grammar skills.
32. What are the findings of the recent studies about?
A. Television and radio are the only tools for language learning.
B. Inactive learning plays a great role in learning new languages.
C. Full attention contributes to greater achievement of language learning
D. It is important to communicate with native speakers when learning new languages.
33. The underlined word “Validate” in paragraph 4 refer to ________.
A. confirm B. contradict C. indicate D. assume
34. What is Melissa Baese-Berk’s attitude towards inactive language learning?
A. doubtful B. favorable C. indifferent D. disapproving
35. Which practice does the author probably approve?
A. Giving up pronunciation drills in the class,
B. Repeating after the tapes intentionally all the time.
C. Playing target languages in the background while dinning.
D. Practicing distinguishing difficult sounds of target languages.
第二节 (共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Everyone loves travelling, right? Unfortunately, money can sometimes be a problem ... but not if you’re prepared. 36
Tip 1: Decide where you’ll go based on your budget.
The cost of your trip can depend greatly on where you want to go. So, knowing
the average costs in a country can help you plan your trip. 37 By contrast, Eastern Europe and South-East Asia are cheaper and still offer great cultural experiences.
Tip 2: Choose hostels and campsites.
38 But sadly, in a lot of places, this is just not realistic for those on a budget.
That’s why whenever I travel to countries which are expensive, I choose to stay in hostels or campsites. Hostels are a sure way to meet potential travelling companions while also saving money. Camping is also a great choice for budget accommodation, especially if you enjoy the outdoors.
Tip 3: 39
Another advantage of staying in hostels is that you will always have access to a
kitchen. Eating in a restaurant can be very expensive, so you can easily save by cooking your own meals. Many cities have markets where you can buy fresh food and vegetables on the cheap, and you can even try to make the popular food of the country.
Tip 4: Look for discounts on major attractions.
Obviously when you’re travelling you want to see everything the country has to
offer. 40 Many tourist attractions have a student or youth discount and some
attractions are free for everyone on certain days.
So you see, if you come prepared, you can easily travel the world, no matter
what your budget is!
A. Learn to cook traditional food.
B. Don’t always rely on restaurants.
C. How to travel on a budget is a tricky question.
D. Yes, everyone loves the luxury of a five-star hotel.
E. But you can research and see if it’s possible to see them for less.
F. For example, countries like France and the UK can be pretty expensive to visit.
G. Here are some tips to gain better travel experience, regardless of your bank savings!
