Environmental Protection Agency studies indicate that indoor levels of pollutants(污染物) may be 2~5 times, and occasionally more than 100 times, higher than outdoor levels. These levels of indoor air pollutants may be of particular concern because most people spend about 90% of their time indoors.‎ There are many sources of indoor air pollution in any home. These include combustion(燃烧)sources such as oil, gas, coal, wood, and tobacco products; building materials and furnishings such as wet or damp carpet, furniture made of certain pressed wood products; products for household cleaning and maintenance, personal care or hobbies; central heating and cooling systems and humidification devices(加湿器); and outdoor sources such as pesticides(农药), and outdoor air pollution.‎ Immediate effects may show up after a single exposure or repeated exposures. These include irritation of the eyes, nose, and throat, headaches, dizziness(晕眩), and fatigue(乏力). Such immediate effects are usually short-term and treatable. Sometimes the treatment is simply eliminating(清除) the person's exposure to the source of the pollution, if it can be identified. Symptoms(症状) of some diseases, including asthma, hypersensitivity, pneumonitis, and fever, may also show up soon after exposure to some indoor air pollutants.‎ The likelihood of immediate reactions to indoor air pollutants depends on several factors. Age and pre-existing medical conditions are two important influences. In other cases, whether a person reacts to a pollutant depends on individual sensitivity, which varies tremendously from person to person. Some people can become sensitized to biological pollutants after repeated exposures, and it appears that some people can become sensitized to chemical pollutants as well.‎ Certain immediate effects are similar to those from colds or other viral diseases, so it is often difficult to determine if the symptoms are a result of exposure to indoor air pollution. For this reason, it is important to pay attention to the time and place the symptoms occur. If the symptoms fade or go away when a person is away from the home and return when the person returns, an effort should be made to identify indoor air sources that may be possible causes. Some effects may be made worse by an inadequate supply of outdoor air or from the heating, cooling, or humidity conditions prevalent in the home.‎ ‎31. What can we infer from the underlined sentence?‎ A. When we catch a cold, we should have the air in the room checked.‎ B. If your symptom remains the same when you leave your room, it may be not due to the air in your room.‎ C. If you always feel sick, it doesn't matter to stay in the room.‎ D. The air in your room is always related to your illnesses.‎ ‎32. Which of the following is true?‎ A. When we burn something, the air in the room can't be polluted.‎ B. The furniture in the room has nothing to do with air pollution.‎ C. Central heating and cooling systems can clean the air in the room.‎ D. Outdoor air pollution can cause indoor levels of pollutants to rise.‎ ‎33. The author wants to .‎ A. give us the information that air pollution is very serious now.‎ B. warn us that we should stop air pollution.‎ C. cause our attention that indoor air pollution may be harming our health.‎ D. tell us not to use air-conditioner.‎ ‎34. We can do the following things except .‎ A. If you feel bad in the room, pay attention to the air in it.‎ B. If you don't need something, just burn it in the room.‎ C. Use as less pesticide as possible.‎ D. Check the air pollution before moving into a room.‎ B Right-hand rings are the new assertion(主张) of female freedom.‎ As soon as journalists start writing about advertising campaigns, you know the ads are working. In the United States right now, you can hardly open a magazine without reading about the “latest trend(趋势)in jewellery”—the right-hand diamond ring.‎ According to these news items, economically independent women, like the ones seen on Sex and the City(欲望都市), are no longer waiting for a man to buy them a rock for the ring finger of their left hand. Married or not, they are buying their own diamonds, and wearing them on the right hand as a symbol of their independence.‎ Sales of rings are indeed up, but not all (and maybe none) of this should be considered as a new wave in feminist thinking. In fact, the trend can be traced to September 2003, when the giant De Beers diamond company launched a massive advertising campaign across the US called “Women of the World, Raise Your Right Hand”. According to the ads, which appear in top-end (一流的) magazines such as Vogue, wearing a diamond on the right hand means you are independent and free.‎ Obviously, the idea is to get well-paid women to buy their own diamonds, something they traditionally do not do. But in recent months Sarah Jessica Parker, from Sex and the City, has been spotted with a monster-sized right-hand ring. Female band Destiny's Child wrote a song about their right-hand rings, with the lyrics(歌词): “I buy my own diamonds, I buy my own rings. The rock I'm rocking, I bought it for me.” The idea of using feminism to sell stuff(物品) to women is not new. Before cigarette advertising was banned, Virginia Slims tried, through advertising, to link smoking with female independence. It worked: more women took up the habit.‎ ‎35. Women are wearing a diamond on the right hand because .‎ A. they want people to know they are wealthy B. the latest fashion is wearing the diamond this way C. they are right-handed people D. they want to show their independence ‎36. The fact that rings are sold more shows that .‎ A. there is a new wave in feminist thinking B. women are earning more than ever before C. the ads are playing an important part in people's shopping habit D. women are getting more and more independent ‎37. From the last paragraph, we can learn that .‎ A. women used to be very poor so that they didn't have enough money to buy a diamond B. women have never been independent in the society C. women used to get a diamond from their husband D. women want to use feminism to get their independence ‎38. Which of the following information is true?‎ A. It is a new idea to use feminism to sell stuff to women.‎ B. More women began to smoke just because of the ads.‎ C. Vogue is not a famous magazine.‎ D. Sarah Jessica Parker is a member of the band Destiny's Child.‎ C What is time? Is it a thing to be saved or spent or wasted, like money? Or is it something we have no control over, like the weather? Is time the same all over the world? That's an easy question, you say. Wherever you go, a minute is 60 seconds, an hour is 60 minutes, a day is 24 hours, and so forth. Well, maybe. But in America, time is more than that. Americans see time as a valuable resource. Maybe that's why they are fond of the expression, “Time is money.”‎ Because Americans believe time is a limited resource, they try to cherish and manage it. People in the U.S. often attend seminars(研习会) or read books on time management. It seems they all want to organize their time better. Professionals carry around pocket planners(口袋型记事本), some in electronic form, to keep track of appointments and deadlines. People do all they can to squeeze(挤) more life out of their time. The early American hero Benjamin Franklin expressed this view best: “Do you love life? Then do not waste time, for that is what life is made of.”‎ To Americans, punctuality(准时) is a way of showing respect for other people's time. Being more than 10 minutes late to an appointment usually calls for an apology, and maybe an explanation.‎ ‎ People who are running late often call ahead to let others know of the delay. Of course, the less formal the situation, the less important it is to be exactly on time. At informal get-togethers, for example, people often arrive as much as 30 minutes past the appointed time. But they usually don't try that at work.‎ American lifestyles show how much people respect the time of others. When people plan an event, they often set the time days or weeks in advance. Once the time is fixed, it takes almost an emergency to change it. If people want to come to your house for a friendly visit, they will usually call first to make sure it is convenient. Only very close friends will just “drop by” unannounced. Also, people hesitate to call others late at night for fear they might be in bed. The time may vary, but most folks think twice about calling after 10:00 p.m.‎ ‎39. Why do Americans think that time is money?‎ A. They want to earn a lot of money in their life.‎ B. Money can raise their social status.‎ C. If they want to earn money, they have to spend a lot of time.‎ D. They consider time as a valuable resource.‎ ‎40. Pocket planners are kept for .‎ A. people are easy to forget their appointments B. people want to manage time much better C. people have too many things to get along with D. people are in the habit of keeping notes with them ‎41. What does the underlined sentence mean in the last paragraph?‎ A. A fixed time should never be changed.‎ B. We can change a fixed time as we wish to.‎ C. We shouldn't change a fixed time unless something urgent appears.‎ D. It will take people some time to change a fixed time.‎ ‎42. Which of the following is wrong according to the passage?‎ A. People shouldn't call others late at night.‎ B. When people plan an event, they often set the time before hand.‎ C. At informal get-togethers, people often arrive late.‎ D. If you are late for an appointment, it doesn't matter.‎ D We all have those days when all we want is to crawl back in bed for a few more hours. Unfortunately, few of us have that luxury(奢侈). The following hints may help you stay energized, or at least get you going until you can make the time for rest.‎ Talk. Engage in a quick conversation with a high-energy colleague. Their positive energy may refresh you. (Just be careful not to drag them down!)‎ Snack more! Having a healthy snack on hand, like a granola bar(格兰诺拉燕麦卷) or fruit can help your blood sugar levels and may provide a healthy boost of energy. (Overeating will do the opposite and drag you down!) Moderation is key!‎ Exercise. If you know that your schedule does not allow for a visit to the gym today, find a way to move around during your day. Instead of sending an email to your coworker, walk to her desk. It may be a good idea to take the stairs today, even though you're tired. But try to visit the gym tomorrow. People who exercise get more restful sleep and often feel more energized than those who don't.‎ Drink water. “Hydration(水合) is critical,” says Steven Masley, medical director of the Pritikin Longevity Center in Aventura, Florida. “If you don't hydrate, you're going to feel tired.” The majority of your body is made of water; even a slight deficiency(不足) can rob you of your “oomph”!(精力)‎ Rest. Plan a vacation or a staycation(在家休息). Whether you leave town for a day or a week, having something fun to look forward to will excite you and stimulate energy. Plus, if you're reading this, you could probably use a break from your day-to-day routine.‎ ‎43. What can we infer from paragraph1?‎ A. Nowadays people are in great need of rest. ‎ B. The luxury for people today is money.‎ C. Most of us have no energy today. ‎ D. It is the best time for us when we sleep in bed.‎ ‎44. If we want to get energetic, we'd better .‎ A. have a talk with someone ‎ B. talk with some energetic people C. stop talking and have a rest ‎ D. stop people and talk to them ‎45. What does the underlined sentence mean in paragraph3?‎ A. Moderation can open a door.‎ B. We shouldn't eat too much.‎ C. The important point is that we should stop eating.‎ D. The most important is that we shouldn't eat in work.‎ 第三节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Philadelphia is a city known for many things. It is where the Declaration of Independence was signed in 1776, and it was also the first capital of the United States. 46 It is home to nearly 3,000 murals (壁画)painted on the sides of homes and buildings around the city. That's more murals than any other city on Earth.   47 ‎ More than 20 years ago, a New Jersey artist named Jane Golden started a program pairing troubled youth with artists to paint murals on a few buildings around the city. 48 ‎ The teenagers involved helped to create magnificent pieces of art, and there were other, even more important, benefits. The young people learned to cooperate and get along with many different kinds of people during the painting. They learned to be responsible, because they needed to follow a schedule to make sure the murals were completed. 49 It is hard for anyone to see the spectacular designs and not feel proud to be a part of Philadelphia.‎ Take a walk around some of the poorest neighbourhoods in Philadelphia and you will find beautiful works of art on the sides and fronts of buildings. Of course the murals are not just in poor neighbourhoods, but richer ones as well. Special buses take tourists to different parts of the city to see the various murals, which show the diverse ethnic groups that call Philadelphia home.‎ ‎ 50 It is also a model for other cities throughout America seeking to help troubled youth.‎ A. How did this come to be?‎ B. What happened to the murals on Earth?‎ C. They also learned to take pride in their community.‎ D. But one fact about Philadelphia is not so well-known.‎ E. From this small project, something magical happened.‎ F. The program encouraged troubled youth to paint together with their teachers.‎ G. As a result of its success, the mural program has now become the nation's largest public art program.‎ 第三部分:英语知识运用(共两节,满分35分)‎ 第一节:完形填空(共20小题;每小题1分,满分20分)‎ 阅读下面短文, 从短文后各题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D), 选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。‎ Recently, one of my best friends, whom I've shared just about everything with since the first day of kindergarten, spent the weekend with me.
