As a result, facial expressions that had been considered universally recognizable cannot be used to reliably convey emotion in cross-cultural situations. ‎ The researchers studied cultural differences in the recognition of facial expressions by recording the eye movements of 13 Western Caucasian and 13 East Asian people while they observed pictures of expressive faces and put them into categories: happy, sad, surprised, fearful, disgusted, angry, or neutral. They compared how accurately participants read those facial expressions using their particular eye movement strategies. ‎ It turned out that Easterners focused much greater attention on the eyes and made significantly more errors than Westerners did. “The cultural difference in eye movements that they show is probably a reflection of cultural difference in facial expressions,” Jack said. “Our data suggest that whereas Westerners use the whole face to convey emotion, Easterners use the eyes more and mouth less.”‎ In short, the data show that facial expressions are not universal signals of human emotion. From here on, examining how cultural factors have diversified these basic social skills will help our understanding of human emotion. Otherwise, when it comes to communicating emotions across cultures, Easterners and Westerners will find themselves lost in translation. ‎ ‎21. The discovery shows that Westerners .‎ A. pay equal attention to the eyes and the mouth ‎ B. consider facial expressions universally reliable C. observe the eyes and the mouth in different ways D. have more difficulty in recognizing facial expressions ‎ ‎22. What were the people asked to do in the study?‎ A. To make a face at each other. B. To get their faces impressive. ‎ C. To classify some face pictures. D. To observe the researchers’ faces. ‎ ‎23. What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 6 refer to?‎ A. The participants in the study. B. The researchers of the study. ‎ C. The errors made during the study. D. The data collected from the study. B He may not have an "S" across his chest but this dog is most certainly a hero.‎ ‎ Harley, who was rescued from a puppy mill four years ago, was named the American Humane Association's 2015 American Hero Dog. Harley, who is missing an eye and has other medical issues from his time at the mill, is now a "spokes-dog" against puppy mills. He serves as the adorable furry face of the "Harley to the Rescue" campaign, which raises funds for the National Dog Mill Rescue, according to a press release.‎ ‎ The pup was rescued back in 2011 and adopted by Rudi and her husband, Dan. "It was just four years ago that he was pulled from the cage in the puppy mill and left to die," Harley's owner, Rudi, said during the awards show at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles this past weekend, according to Today. com. "We never would have ever thought he would live this long and make such a difference for so many puppies."‎ ‎ The dog was one of eight finalists up for the American Hero Dog and was chosen as the winner through public votes. The finalists all won $ 1,500 to be donated to one of American Humane Association’s charity partners, with Harley receiving another $ 5 ,000 to go toward his charity partner, New Leash On Life.‎ ‎ According to the release, Harley spent 10 years at the puppy mill, and endured rough treatment there, which led to his many medical issues. He lost his eye as a result of his cage being power-washed with him inside.‎ ‎ The dog isn't just the face of his campaign, he also goes on rescue missions and makes public appearances at events and schools to raise awareness for puppy mills.‎ ‎ This incredible work is all due to the dog’s fighting spirit. That spirit is allowing him now to be the voice for dogs who cannot speak for themselves and give everybody hope that tomorrow's going to be a better day.‎ ‎24. How did the "Harley to the Rescue" campaign function?‎ ‎ A. By saving dogs from a puppy mill.‎ ‎ B. By operating the American Humane Association.‎ ‎ C. By collecting money for the National Dog Mill Rescue.‎ ‎ D. By giving endangered dogs-enough medical treatment.‎ ‎25. What was the author’s attitude to the puppy mill according to the text?‎ ‎ A. Unsatisfied. B. Sympathetic. C. Doubtful. D. Tolerant.‎ ‎26. Why was Harley blind in one eye?‎ ‎ A. She was born with it. B. Her owner treated her roughly.‎ ‎ C. It was caused by a medical issue. D. She was washed heavily in a cage.‎ C ‎ Teens and younger children are reading a lot less for fun, according to a Common Sense Media report published Monday.‎ ‎ While the decline over the past decade is steep for teen readers, some data in the report shows that reading remains a big part of many children’s lives, and indicates how parents might help encourage more reading.‎ ‎ According to the report’s key findings, "the proportion(比例) who say they ‘hardly ever’ read for fun has gone from 8 percent of 13-year-olds and 9 percent of 17-year-olds in 1984 to 22 percent and 27 percent respectively today."‎ ‎ The report data shows that pleasure reading levels for younger children, ages 2—8, remain largely the same. But the amount of time spent in reading each session has declined, from closer to an hour or more to closer to a half hour per session.‎ ‎ When it comes to technology and reading, the report does little to counsel(建议) parents looking for data about the effect of e-readers and tablets on reading. It does point out that many parents still limit electronic reading, mainly due to concerns about increased screen time.‎ ‎ The most hopeful data shared in the report shows clear evidence of parents serving as examples and important guides for their kids when it comes to reading. Data shows that kids and teens who do read frequently, compared to infrequent readers, have more books in the home, more books purchased for them, parents who read more often, and parents who set aside time for them to read.‎ ‎ As the end of school approaches, and school vacation reading lists loom(逼近) ahead, parents might take this chance to step in and make their own summer reading list and plan a family trip to the library or bookstore.‎ ‎27. What is the Common Sense Media report probably about?‎ A. Children’s reading habits. B. Quality of children’s books.‎ C. Children’s after-class activities. D. Parent-child relationships.‎ ‎28. Where can you find the data that best supports "children are reading a lot less for fun"?‎ A. In paragraph 2. B. In paragraph 3. C. In paragraph 4. D. In paragraph 5.‎ ‎29. Why do many parents limit electronic reading?‎ A. E-books are of poor quality. B. It could be a waste of time.‎ C. It may harm children’s health. D. E-readers are expensive.‎ ‎30. How should parents encourage their children to read more?‎ A. Act as role models for them. B. Ask them to write book reports.‎ C. Set up reading groups for them. D. Talk with their reading class teachers.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ I was ten when I first sat with my grandmother behind the cashier(收银台)in her general store. 31 I quickly learned the importance of treating customers politely and saying “thank you.”‎ At first I was paid in candy. 32 I worked every day after school, and during the summer and on weekends and holidays from ‎8 a.m. to 7 p.m. My father helped me set up a bank account. 33 ‎ By the time I was 12, My grandmother thought I had done such a good job that she promoted me to selling cosmetics(化妆品). She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn't help weeping(哭泣) sorrowfully(悲伤地) when she thought of the scolding(责骂) from her mother. Having wandered(游荡) aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand(货摊) for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh(叹气) and had to leave. The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?” “Oh, yes, but I don't have money on me,” she replied.‎ ‎“That's nothing. I'll treat you today,” said the man “Come in.” The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, the smell so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently. “What is it?” asked the man kindly. “Nothing. Actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped(擦拭) her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless(无情的) compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude(感激) to her?” Jenny sat there, speechless and numb(麻木的) with shock; she remembered her mother's familiar face and weathered (变形)hands. “Why didn't I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted(感激的). Why haven't I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?” On the way home, Jenny made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness as soon as she arrived home.‎ 注意:‎ ‎1. ‎ Paragraph 1:‎ Approaching the doorway,_____________________________________________________.‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________‎ Paragraph 2:‎ A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. _____________________________________‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎____________________________________________________________________________‎ ‎ 月考答案(12.22))‎ ‎1-5 CACBA 6-10 CABCB 11-15 BCABA 16-20 BCACA ‎21 -23 ACA 24-26 CAD 27 -30 ABCA ‎ ‎31-35 BAGCD ‎36. I first came into contact with China Daily when I was in Junior Two. I had many difficulties learning English at that time. In order to help me improve my English, my English teacher introduced the newspaper to me and asked me to read it every day. I took his advice and soon fell in love with it. Gradually my English improved. Now my English is very good and I’d like to introduce this paper to those who have difficulties learning English.‎ 写作二 Paragraph 1:‎ Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. Tired and sad, she sat down in front of the house. “Where might my mother be?” she wondered. “Is she really so angry with me that she doesn't want to show any care for me?” Again, the scene of the quarrel appeared in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother, and she just realized that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her. Tears rolled down her cheeks.‎ Paragraph 2:‎ A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. She raised her head to see the familiar face and the worried eyes. “Here you come! I've been looking for you,” came the tired voice. Jenny couldn't help but throw herself into her mother's arms. “I'm sorry and thank you for all you have done for me.” She expressed the sincere apology and the great gratitude. Then she felt the hug tightened.‎ 听力原文 Text 1‎ W: Have you seen the movie “Hangover”? We went to see it last night.‎ M: How was it?‎ W: Jason thought it was extremely amusing, but I was a bit disappointed.‎ Text 2‎ M: Susan, I heard you are going to France. How long will you be staying there?‎ W: A whole year. My aunt lives there. I’m going to do a one-month course at a language school and spend the rest of the time traveling. ‎ Text 3‎ M: Let’s see what drinks you’ve got for the party tonight.‎ W: Everything! Beer, wine, soft drinks like Coke, 7-Up…you name it, I’ve got it! Have you ordered the cake?‎ M: Of course.‎ Text 4‎ M: I don’t have a library card. Do I need one?‎ W: You have to have one only to take books out. You’re okay if you just sit in one of the rooms reading.‎ M: Well then, I’ll just read here. Thank you.‎ Text 5‎ W: I wish I knew the times of the trains to London. But our phone’s out of order.‎ M: Don’t worry, Grandma. I’ll find out for you on the Internet.‎ W: Thank you!‎ Text 6‎ W: Excuse me. I wonder if you could tell me how to find a place to have my shoes mended. I’m new in town.‎ M: Ah, there is a good shop not far from here. Go straight ahead and walk about three blocks. I can’t remember the name of the shop, but you’ll find it. It’s near the police station. By the way, you know about the Town Guide? It’s a thin book and has all kinds of useful information. You’ll find one in any bookstore.‎ W: Thanks a lot! You’ve been so helpful. Let’s see. Did you say the repair shop was three blocks away from here?‎ M: Exactly. ‎ W: Thanks again. ‎ Text 7‎ M: I’ve been here many times. There are quite a lot of delicious dishes to choose from. What are you thinking of ordering? ‎ W: Well, I haven’t decided yet. What are you going to order?‎ M: I think I’ll have the roast chicken. They really make it well here.‎ W: I had roast chicken yesterday when I ate out with Shelly. ‎ M: Their beef steak is good, too. You can have it served with beans and mushrooms. ‎ W: But I'm not that hungry. Is the fried fish or the seafood salad good?‎ M: Never had them before. Maybe if you get the steak, we could share. ‎ W: That sounds like a good idea.‎ Text 8‎ W: Hello, Mr. White. Do you think it’s possible for us to talk sometime today?‎ M: I’d love to, Miss Wilson, but I’ve got a pretty tight schedule today. I’ve got to finish reading the yearly financial report by 10. Then I have to drive to the airport to pick up an advertiser at 11. After that, I’ll have a meeting with him over lunch. ‎ W: Can I see you after lunch?‎ M: Well, let me see…after lunch, I have to attend a senior staff meeting, which may last about two hours. Can you come at 3? We can talk for an hour before I meet my sales team at 4. ‎ W: I’m afraid an hour is too short. What about tomorrow morning?‎ M: 9 to 11, then. I’ll wait for you at the office. ‎ W: OK, see you then. ‎ Text 9‎ W: Hey, Bill. I hear they’re going to send you to Germany for the new project. ‎ M: Boy, news travels fast around here! I only got the orders a couple of hours ago. Rachel doesn’t even know…‎ W: Oh, no? So, what are you waiting for? When do you plan to tell her?‎ M: Well, she is at work at the moment. She doesn’t finish until 5. I’ll have to wait until tonight now, I suppose. ‎ W: Well, I was posted there before, back in 2008. It’s OK — a bit like England, really. At least the weather is similar, and the people aren’t much different. The only thing I didn’t like is the food, especially the sausages. What do you intend to do about the family? Are you going to take them with you?‎ M: Well, I’d like to, but I don’t know much about the situation at the moment…you know, about schools and all that. But I hope to move the family out there in a couple of months’ time. I don’t think I want to spend a year and a half out there on my own...I mean, without Rachel and the kids. I mean, I don’t see that much of them now as it is. ‎ W: Yeah. Well, that’s the way it is normally in our company, I suppose. ‎ M: Yeah. Well, we’ll see. Let me pay for the coffee.‎ W: No, no. I’ll pay.‎ Text 10‎ W: Hello, everyone. Welcome to our program. I’m Jenny Jackson. The weather here in Juárez has become unbearable. With no rains for over a year, the city is suffering from unusually hot weather. Some light showers have been forecast since last month, but all of them have been effective in surrounding areas. Summer has not even started yet, but temperatures have reached 40 degrees centigrade in the past three days. And people have been warned not to go out of their homes — not if you walk on foot, at least — between 11 in the morning and 7 in the evening. Little kids and the elderly are the ones who have suffered the most from this extreme heat wave. They must drink water all the time. To help our audience have a better understanding of this extreme weather, we have invited Prof. Torres from University of Mexico to our studio this evening.‎
