In a hurry to dive into the cool water, he ran out of the back door, leaving behind shoes, socks and shirt as he went. He flew into the water, not realizing that as he swam toward the middle or the lake, an alligator(短嘴鳄)was getting close. The mother in the house was looking out of the window and saw the two as they got closer and closer together. In great fear, she ran toward the water, yelling to her son as loudly as she could. Hearing her voice, the little boy became alarmed and made a U—turn to swim to his mother. It was too late. Just as he reached her, the alligator reached him. From the dock, the mother grabbed her little boy by the arms just as the alligator snatched(抓住)his legs. That began an unbelievable tug-of-war(拔河比赛)between the two. The alligator was much stronger than the mother, but the mother was much too passionate to let go. A farmer happened to drive by, heard their screams; rushed from his truck, took aim and shot the alligator.‎ Remarkably, after weeks and weeks in the hospital, the little boy survived. His legs were extremely scarred by the terrible attack of the animal. And on his arms, were deep scratches where his mother's fingernails dug into his flesh in her effort to hang on to the son she loved.‎ The newspaper reporter, who interviewed the boy after the trauma(外伤),asked if he would show him his scars. The boy lifted the pant legs. And then, with obvious ‎ pride, he said to the reporter," Look at my arms. I have great scars on my arms ,too. I have them because my mum wouldn't let go."‎ You and I can identify with(认同)that little boy. We have scars, too. Not from an alligator, but the scars of a painful past. Some of those scars are unsightly and have caused us deep regret. But, some wounds, my friends, are because we have refused to let go.‎ ‎24.The underlined part "the two" in the second paragraph refers to_______.‎ A. the driver and the alligator B. the mother and the son C. the son and the alligator D. the alligator and the mother ‎25 . From the passage we can infer_______.‎ A. The son was proud of his scars on his arms ‎ B. The mother was actually stronger than the alligator C. The mother was unwilling to let the alligator go ‎ D. The son was ashamed of his scars on his legs ‎ ‎26. According to the last paragraph, what is the writer's real meaning?‎ A. To forget the past is to betray. B. We should learn to let go sometimes.‎ C. Wounds are different from scars. D. We should forget the scars.‎ ‎27. What type does the author develop the passage? ‎ A. Comparison B. Analysis ‎ C. Classification(分类) D. Narration with comments(叙述)‎ C A warm drink of milk before bed has long been the best choice for those wanting a good night’s sleep. But now a study has found it really does help people nod off—if it is milked from a cow at night.‎ Researchers have discovered that “night milk” contains more melatonin(褪黑激素), which has been proven to help people feel sleepy and reduce anxiety.‎ The study, by researchers from Seoul‎, ‎South Korea, involved mice being fed with dried milk powder made from cows milked both during the day and at night.‎ ‎ Those given night milk, which contained 10 times the amount of melatonin, were ‎ less active and less anxious than those fed with the milk collected during daytime, according to the study published in The Journal of Medicinal Food.‎ ‎ Night milk quickened the start of sleep and caused the mice to sleep longer.‎ ‎ While the effect of cows milk harvested at different time has not been tested on humans up to now, taking melatonin drugs has been suggested to those who are struggling to fall asleep at night.‎ ‎ Previous studies have also indicated that milk can be excellent for helping sleep because of the calcium content, which helps people to relax.‎ ‎ Milk is also sugar-free and additive-free with nutritionists recommending skimmed milk as the best choice before bed as it is the least fattening. The more fat you take in before bedtime, the greater burden you will put on your body at night.‎ ‎28. According to the text, the mice fed with daytime milk_______.‎ A. were less active B. started sleep more easily ‎ C. were more anxious D. woke up later ‎29. Which of the following is true of melatonin according to the text?‎ A. It’s been tested on mice for ten times. B. It’s used in sleeping drugs.‎ C. It exists in milk in great amount. D. It can make people more energetic.‎ ‎30.What can be a suitable title for the text?‎ A. An Experiment on Mice B. Fat, Sugar and Health ‎ C. Night Milk and Sleep D. Milk Drinking and Health ‎31. How does the author support the theme of the text?‎ A. By providing research results B. By giving examples ‎ C. By explaining statistical data D. By stating arguments D The Chinese television reality show called “Wonderful Friends”, where entertainers hug whale sharks, kiss lions, feed pandas and dress up baby chimpanzees, has come under fire from wildlife protectors who want it to be stopped, saying such activities are cruel and are dangerous for both the humans and animals. The show is the latest hit from Hunan TV, which has attracted more than 196,000 ‎ followers. In each show, popular stars are given zoo-keeping tasks that allow them to interact with wild animals in order to bring humans and animals closer together. Animal welfare advocates(倡导者) say that is exactly what should be avoided. Dave Neale of Animals Asia (an advocacy group) said, “It is hugely misleading to the public about the needs and welfare of captive animals (圈养动物) and putting the animals’ welfare and health at risk.” “What they don’t realize is that wild animals need space,” said Xie Yan, a zoologist and China director of the Wildlife Conservation Society. “Putting clothes on chimpanzees is not as adorable as you may think from the animals’ point of view. I guess their idea was to get their viewers to love and protect the animals,” Ms. Xie added, “but we do not agree with this approach for entertainment.” Using famous people to focus public attention on wildlife is a common practice in conservation campaigns. The Chinese basketball legend Yao Ming went to Africa and highlighted the problem of elephant and rhinoceros poaching (偷猎) in the documentary “The End of the Wild”. “But differently, he, as a human observer, kept his distance and was there to see the hard truth of poaching, and that is different from a show created to attract viewers.” Ms Xie said. Critics (评论家)also argue that the show violates (违反) Chinese wildlife protection laws. 32. Which one of the following statements is TRUE? A. Many people like the show because of its dangerous activities. B. Xie Yan is against persuading the public to love and protect animals. C. Some think the show is against wildlife protection laws of China. D. The reality show makes no difference to wildlife at all. 33. According to Ms Xie, “Wonderful Friends” is basically different from “The End of the Wild”, because ______. A. they both invite different popular stars to show up         B. their purposes and ways to approach animals are different  C. their filming locations are different ‎ D. they shoot(拍摄) different numbers and kinds of species 34. What’s the author’s attitude towards “Wonderful Friends”? A. Not mentioned.  B. Disappointed.  C. Uninterested.  D. Worried. 35. The passage would most likely be found ______. A. on a notice board B. in a fashion magazine C. in a newspaper      D. in an ad of wildlife protection 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Don’t Miss Your Airline Flight ‎ We had a question this week from Jacek in Poland about how to pronounce airline flights numbers. The flight number is the number that each plane trip is given, and is usually two, three, or four digits (数字) in the United States. 36 , for example, I might take Northwest Flight 304. “‎304”‎ is the number of the flight; “Northwest” is the name of the airline. ‎ ‎ While in many cases you could pronounce this number “three hundred and four”, that is not how you would pronounce it in the context of a flight number. In other words, if you’re at the airport and listening for an announcement for your flight number, you will not hear them say “three hundred and four”. 37 :‎ ‎ If it is a two-digit flight number, we pronounce it as a “regular” number. 38 . It is also possible to use the individual numbers — “three four”. ‎ ‎ 39 . So, Flight 304 would be pronounced “three zero four”. You would not say “three hundred and four”.‎ ‎ For four-digit flight numbers there are two possibilities. 40 . This can be pronounced “twenty-five sixty-seven”, grouping the numbers two by two, or it can be pronounced using the individual numbers “two five six seven”. Again, we would not say “two thousand five hundred and sixty-seven”. So listen carefully when you’re at the airport. We don’t want you to miss your flight.‎ A. Here are the rules for pronouncing numbers at the airport ‎ B. If I fly from Los Angeles to ‎Minneapolis A. Let’s take the example of Flight 2567‎ B. The following are some other examples C. For three-digit flight numbers, we pronounce the individual numbers only D. Now let’s have a look at this rule E.
