B A serious problem for today’s society is who should be responsible for our elderly and how to improve their lives. It is not only a financial problem but also a question of the system we want for our society. I would like to suggest several possible solutions to this problem. www.sdzxlm.com First, employers should take the responsibility for their retired employees. To make this possible, a percentage of profits(利润) should be set aside for this purpose. But when a company must take life-long responsibility for its employees, it may suffer from a commercial disadvantage due to higher employee costs. Another way of solving the problem is to return the responsibility to the individual( 个 人 ). This means each person must save during his working years to pay for his years of retirement(退休). This does not seem a very fair model(模式) since some people have enough trouble paying for their daily life without trying to earn extra to cover their retirement years. This means the government might have to step in to care for the poor. In addition, the government could take responsibility for the care of the elderly. This could be financed through government taxes( 税 收 ) to increase the level of pensions(养老金). Furthermore, some institutions(机构) should be created for senior citizens, which can help provide a comfortable life for them. Unfortunately, as the present situation in our country shows, this is not a truly viable answer. The government can seldom afford to care for the elderly, particularly when it is busy trying to care for the young. One further solution is that the government or social organizations establish(建立) some working places especially for the elderly where they are independent. To sum up, all these options have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, it is reasonable to expect that some combination of these options may be needed to provide the care we hope to give to our elderly generations. 24. What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this article? A. To discuss some possible solutions to an important social problem. B. To make general readers aware of the problems of retired people. C. To point out the need for government support for old people. D. To instruct retired people on how they can have a happier life. 25. What does the underlined word “viable” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean? A. Impossible. B. Practical. C. Useful. D. Successful. 26. According to the passage, how can the government help to improve the lives of retired people? A. Set aside some profits to help people with problems after they retire.B. Increase savings levels of people during their working years. C. Increase the discounts(折扣) for food and transport for the old. D. Make available(可利用的) pensions for those who have retired. 27. What can be concluded from the passage? A. Taking care of the old is mainly an issue of money. B. Employers should allow their workers to retire at a later age. C. There is no single solution to the problems of the old. D. Becoming independent should be the goal of most old people. C Researchers have found bees can do basic mathematics, in a discovery that deepens our understanding of the relationship between brain size and brain power. Recently, a study conducted by researchers from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia showed that bees could perform arithmetic operations(数学运算) like addition and subtraction (减法). www.sdzxlm.com Solving math problems requires a complex level of involving the mental management of numbers, long-term rules and short-term working memory. The finding that even the tiny brain of a honeybee can grasp basic mathematical operations has a possible effect on the future development of Artificial Intelligence, particularly in improving rapid learning. RMIT’s Professor Adrian Dyer said numerical (数字的) operations like addition and subtraction are complex because they require two levels of processing. “You need to be able to hold the rules around adding and subtracting in your long-term memory, while mentally using skillfully a set of given numbers in your short-term memory,” Dyer said. “On top of this, our bees also used their short-term memories to solve arithmetic problems, as they learned to recognize plus or minus as abstract concepts.” The findings suggest that advanced numerical cognition (认知) may be found much more widely in nature among non-human animals than previously suspected. “If math doesn’t require a massive brain, there might also be new ways for us to include interactions of both long-term rules and working memory in designs to improve rapid AI learning of new problems,” said Dyer. Many species can understand the difference between quantities and use this to search for food, make decisions and solve problems. But numerical cognition, such as exact number and arithmetic operations, requires a more complex level of processing. Previous studies have shown some primates (灵长目动物), birds, babies and even spiders can add and/or subtract. The new research, published in Science Advances, adds bees to that list. 28. What have the researchers from RMIT University discovered? A. The relationship between brain size and brain power.B. Long-term rules and short term working memory. C. Bees can perform complex arithmetic operations. D. Bees can do basic mathematics. 29. According to Adrian Dyer, bees’ numerical cognition ________. A. requires addition and subtraction two complex processing B. has a possible effect on the future development of AI C. only involves their short-term working memory D. calls for a lot of maths knowledge 30. What does the finding of the new research suggest? A. Bees can recognize the exact number. B. Arithmetic operations exist in human and bees. C. Numerical cognition has been found in many more species. D. Some primates, birds and even spiders can add and substract. 31. What can be the best title for the text? A. A Discovery About the Tiny Brain of Bees B. New Findings About Bees Having Numerical Cogintion C. Numerical Cognition Requires a Complex Level of Processing D. The Relationship Between Brain Size and Brain Power D Slowly but surely, we’re moving closer and closer to 5G world. From smart-home security to self-driving cars, all the Internet-connected devices in your life will be able to talk to each other at lightning-fast speeds with reduced delay, Objectively speaking(客观的说), the fastest 4G download speeds in the U. S. top out at an average of 19.42 Mbps. But by comparison(对比) 5G promises gigabit (千兆) speeds. “5G is one of those signs, along with artificial intelligence, of this coming data age,” said Steve Koenig, senior director(高级主管) of market research for the Consumer Technology Association. “The self-driving vehicle is a great emblem of this data age, and that is to say, it is a sign of time, because with one single task, driving, you have massive(大量的) amounts of data coming from the vehicle itself, and a variety of sensors(传感器) are collecting a lot of information to model its environment as it moves. It’s pulling in data from other vehicles about road conditions down the lane. It could be weather information, but also connected infrastructure (基础 设施) construction. There’s lots of data behind that task, which is why we need high speed. Augmented reality(简称 AR) glasses and virtual headset haven’t yet broken the mainstream, but tech companies are joyfully betting(打赌) that these devices(设备) will eventually replace our smartphones. With 5G, that could actually happen. This is notable(值得注意的) because companies such as Apple are reportedly developing AR glasses to assist — or perhaps even replace — smartphones. Ericsson stated at February’s Mobile World Congress how smart glasses could become faster and lighter with a 5G connection, because instead of being weighed down with components, the glasses could rely on hardware for processing power. But don’t get too excited. There’s still a lot of work to be done in the meantime including various trials to make sure the radios play nicely with hardware and infrastructure construction so 5G isn’t concentrated only in big cities. 32. What does the author want to stress in Paragraph 1? A. The lighting-fast speed of 5G. B. The expectation of 5G world. C. The difference between 4G and 5G D. The internet-connected devices in our life. 33. What does the underlined word “emblem” in Paragraph 2 mean? A. Exhibition. B. Success. C. Symbol. D. Explanation. 34. Tech companies will face the fact that smartphones may be replaced 35. What will the author probably tell us next? A. How to fully expand 5G coverage. B. Smart glasses will become faster and lighter. C. Why 5G isn’t concentrated in big cities. D. The importance of infrastructure construction 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项 为多余选项。 How You Open Your Car Door Matters to Cyclists The“Dutch reach” isn’t a new dance move or a random YouTube challenge. It’s a simple move that can help prevent harm to cyclists. And you might keep your car door safe in the process, too. 36 Typically,a person sitting in the driver’s seat of a car opens the door with the hand closest to it. It makes sense since doors are designed to be opened that way. 37 But if you happen to do that at the wrong time, you may unknowingly create an obstacle for a passing cyclist. The cyclist might be knocked down off the bike. The car door is likely to be damaged by the fast-moving bicycle. 38 However , the car door design and long-time habits have made the process automatically.Luckily, there’s a simple way to solve the problem.Open your car door with your other hand, using the Dutch reach. So instead of using your left hand, reach for the door handle with your fight . 39 At the very least , you’11 look into your side view mirror to check for any traffic. The Dutch are used to opening their car doors this way.All Dutch are taught it.It’s part of regular driver education. The technique dates back about 50 or 60 years in the Netherlands. In 2016 an American named Michael Charney started the Dutch Reach Project. He wanted to popularize the practice in the United States. Charney’s efforts may be paying off. 40 A.Pull the handle and the door is open. B.This will force you to turn your body. C.It is easy to do once you are used to it. Finally there was only one family between us and the ticket counter. This family made a big impression on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of twelve. You could tell they didn’t have a lot of money. Their clothes were not expensive, but they were clean, the children were well-behaved, all of them standing in line, two-by-two behind their parents, holding hands. They were excitedly talking about the clowns, elephants and other acts they would see that night with their brothers or sisters in a low voice. One could sense they had never been to the circus before. It promised to be a highlight of their young lives. The father and mother were at the head of the pack, standing proud as they could be. The mother was holding her husband’s hand, looking up at him as if to say, “You are my knight in shining armor.” He was smiling and responding in pride, looking back at her as if to say “You got that right”. The ticket lady asked the father how many tickets he wanted. He proudly responded "please let me buy eight children’s tickets and two adult tickets so I can take my family to the circus. The ticket lady gave the price. The man’s wife let go of his hand, lowered her head and her lips began to shake. The father leaned a little closer and asked, “How much did you say?” The ticket lady again told him the price. The man obviously didn’t have enough money. How was he supposed to turn and tell his eight children that he didn’t have enough money to take them to the circus? Actually we were not wealthy in any sense, so I understand how the kids would feel. I felt sorry for them. 注意: 1. 所续写短文的词数应为 150 左右; 2. 应使用 5 个以上短文中标有下划线的关键词语: 3. 续写部分分为两段,每段的开头语已为你写好; 4. 续写完成后,请用下划线标出你所使用的关键词语。 Paragragh 1: Seeing what was going on, my dad seemed to have an idea. ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ _ Paragragh 2: That day my father and I went back to our car ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ _ 高三检测题答案 听力:1-5 BCBCA 6-10 BACBA 11-15 CBCAB 16-20 ABACB 阅读理解:21-23. I spent all last night thinking about the graduation speech I have to give in a couple of days. M: Come on, you’ll be fine. And it’s an exciting opportunity to speak before the whole school. Text 4 M: Hey Susan, can you take a look at this copy machine? It’s a new one. I can’t turn it on. W: I’m actually in the middle of something. You may turn to Jim; he is free now. Text 5 M: Would you like a cup of coffee? W: Yes, thanks. And put some sugar in it please. M: Where did you put the sugar? W: Isn’t it in the cupboard? Text 6 W: Mr. Fredriks, I am really sorry but it seems the order is going to be late. M: Late? What… W: It’s just that something went wrong with the computer system last week and some of the orders were lost. M: Lost?! What… W: We’ve now recovered them and we’re working very hard to complete them. So … we hope to have your order delivered next week. We are very grateful for your patience and to show you just how grateful we are, we’d like to offer you a five percent discount on the whole shipment. M: That’s OK. I suppose there is no other choice. Text 7 W: Unbelievable! M: What? What’s unbelievable? W: The new hotel. The paper says they’re going to build a hotel here next to the seaside cottages. M: Oh, I heard about that from a friend. It’s a new ComfortBreak hotel. W: That’s going to look ugly. I really love those seaside cottages. I used to come here on holiday with my parents when I was a child. M: But it will bring some jobs, and it can hold more tourists. W: It holds more tourists but not necessarily brings more, because it doesn’t match those beautiful seaside cottages. M: Maybe you can do a piece about it on the radio show. You know, get someone from ComfortBreak to the show and tell us why they’re spoiling a beautiful place with a big, ugly hotel. W: Good idea. Text 8 M: How was your trip to Brazil, Sue? W: I liked it very much. M: Why did you go there? W: I went to Sao Paulo to film some of the coffee plantations. It lasted two months. And during filming I went to Rio de Janeiro on the coast to rest for a week. And I also visited my aunt Judy there. M: You also visited Celia there, didn’t you? W: Celia’s in Brazil? Oh, I thought she was still in New York. M: She stayed in New York just for a month and then she was moved to Brazil. But she will go to London next year. Text 9 M: In today’s interview, I'm talking to Molly, a commercial airline pilot. Molly, did you always want to fly? W: I did, yes. My father worked in air traffic control so planes were always a topic of conversation in our house. At first, I wanted to do his job but then there were a few holidays abroad by air. That's when I developed an interest in becoming professional pilot. M: So how did you get started? W: It wasn’t easy. I did well at school and went to university. Actually, a degree isn’t necessary for a pilot, but I wanted to have more advantage over others. Then I spent a few years working in sales. It was boring but I needed to save enough money to go to training school to get my private pilot’s license. I then needed to do at least 150 hours of flying time. M: And then six months ago you started to fly professionally? W: Yes. I’m now a first officer. I get to fly the plane for certain sections of journeys, but it is up to the captain todecide who will fly which sections before we take off. M: Hmm. So where does your career go from here? W: The next step is senior first officer. That will allow me to fly to more airports and under different weather conditions. Eventually, I can apply to become a captain. Text 10 W: Jessica Watson who was born in 1993 became the youngest person to sail non-stop around the world alone in 2010. The journey took seven months. During that time she went through heavy storms and had to do repair on the boat herself as, according to the rules, she was not allowed to stop at any port halfway or receive anything that another person gave her. She was inspired to make the voyage after reading a book written by the previous record holder Jesse Martin, who sailed around the world at the age of 18. Since completing her voyage, Jesse has written her own book called True Spirit. Jordan Romero, born in 1996, became the youngest person to climb Mount Qomolangma at the age of 14. He was accompanied on the climb by his father. He was inspired to achieve it after seeing a painting at his school which showed the seven continents’ highest peaks. The parents of both Jessica and Jordan have received criticism for allowing their children to put themselves in danger. One sixteen-year-old girl called Janet Gordon lost five fingers from frostbite while attempting to climb Qomolangma two years before Jordan and a Dutch court took a girl away from her parents and put her into state care to stop her attempt to beat Jessica’s record.
