(要点 2) While workaholism brings a higher self-esteem level, it has a negative influence on their health and family relationship since workaholics value work over life. (要点 3) Therefore, it is important to strike a balance between work and life. (要点 4)英语听力原文 Text 1 W: It’s a beautiful day. We should go for a walk in the woods. I bet a lot of people will be having picnics there today. M: There will be too many people there. A drive to the seaside would be better. Text 2 W: Where have you been? I have been waiting here for ages. M: I got out of bed early and set off on time but then the bus got stuck in traffic. W: Sounds like you’re not to blame. Text 3 M: I need a new plug for the TV. My TV is old but I like it and it still works well. W: I think you should throw it away and buy another, but it is up to you. Text 4 M: This place is a bit expensive, isn’t it? W: I know. Look at the price of the wine. It only costs a quarter as much at the supermarket. M: Never mind. It’s our anniversary. Order whatever you want. I think I’ll have the steak. Text 5 M: Maybe I should set off for the airport now. John’s plane will arrive soon. He asked me to collect him in the car. W: You have plenty of time. It’s only 3:00 p.m. You have two hours. Text 6 M: Oh, what a surprise to see you! Is there a problem? W: Yes, I think there is. I have been trying to call you all morning but I couldn’t get an answer. M: That’s strange. Let me check my phone. I hope it isn’t broken. W: There is an important meeting at work this afternoon. I wanted to let you know about it. M: Ah, when I saw you at the door, I thought someone might be ill or have had an accident. W: No, nothing like that. I just couldn’t get you on the phone. Is it switched on? M: I’ll have a look. Now I remember — I put it in my coat pocket and my coat is in the car! No wonder I couldn’t hear you calling. Text 7 M: Is that the Homes Bureau? Could I make an appointment to see the house on Wood Avenue? W: Yes, of course. M: I saw it on a website. How many bedrooms does it have? W: There’s one on the first floor and two on the second floor. M: What is the kitchen like? W: It’s quite large, and there’s a large living room as well, with a bathroom on each floor. M: The price is quite high. W: Well, that is the price the owners have asked — but you may be able to do a deal with them. The best thing for you to do is go and look at the house and talk to the owners. M: Can I go this afternoon? W: Maybe that’s too soon. Would tomorrow morning be OK, say 10:00 a.m.? M: Yes, that would be fine.Text 8 M: Do you usually add that much sugar to your coffee? W: Well, you know tea is my favorite, though I am trying to like the taste of coffee. I find it is too bitter. M: When I started drinking coffee, I added lots of milk and sugar. As I got older, I cut out milk entirely. Now I don’t even add sugar. I just drink it black. W: Black coffee? No, thank you. However, coffee ice cream, I would gladly try that. M: Sure, have you tried chocolate ice cream mixed in with coffee? It’s heavenly. Even if you don’t like coffee that much, I bet you will like that. W: I’ll try it if you’re buying. And I will treat you to green tea ice cream if you want to have a try. M: Deal, let’s have a tea time dessert party. Invite a few of your friends, and I will invite some of mine. We will see who has the best taste. W: Well, that doesn’t sound sweet. Text 9 W: It’s dad’s 50th birthday on Saturday. It’s a big day for him, so perhaps we should do something special. M: You mean a party? W: I thought about that, but maybe that would be hard to organize during the exam time. M: That’s true. I do have three tests next week. Maybe we could take him to the cinema. W: I don’t think that would be special enough. M: We could go for a meal to his favorite restaurant — all the family. W: That’s the best idea. I think he’d like that — you, your sister, dad and me. It would be nice. M: I’ll call Jane and tell her not to make other arrangements. W: Where is she? M: Her friend Alice called and they went over to Judy’s house. W: That girl spends more time there than she does with us. M: Well, we’ll be together as a family on Saturday. W: If we can get a table at the restaurant, that is. M: I don’t think it will be a problem. It’s only Monday. They shouldn’t be booked up yet. Give them a call. W: I’ll do that right away. Then this afternoon I will go to town and buy dad a present. M: Get him a birthday cake as well. W: No, I think I’ll make one myself. It feels nicer when someone has made an effort. Text 10 M: Hello everyone and welcome to the garden seminar. We all know that plants grow well in warm and sunny places, but we aren’t all lucky enough to live somewhere like that. Bill and Sally Jones live in a high, windy area — not ideal for gardening — but they are also champion vegetable growers. How do they do it? Well, we all know that vegetables need plenty of water — not just a few drops or a few pints, but gallons of it. It rains a lot where the Jones family live, so they have a good water supply. It’s also very open, so they get enough sunlight. The real enemy is the wind. They tried different ways of protecting the plants — planting trees for shelter and building fences — but what they use now for the more delicate plants are glass houses. With several of these they are able to grow plants which would not normally survive in their location. By adapting to the conditions in which they live, Bill and Sally have developeda winning way with their crops. And their experience can serve as a lesson for other growers who experience similar difficulties.
