Most of us stare at our cell phones, and refuse to make eye contact with others. We just read, chat with others online or play games online. Or maybe we’re using the time between stops to do our makeup, catch up on emails, or read a few chapters of a book. However, Dina Alfasi takes a very different approach. Each day she has to travel hours on buses and trains to get to her engineering job at a hospital in Israel. Rather than look at her cell phone in silence, she uses one very special way to have connection with strangers. It is portraits of the people she meets on public transport every day that she is taking. The photographs catch those quiet and personal moments of people readying themselves for the day ahead. Some people lean (倚靠) their head against the window and go to sleep, some stare into space and have a daydream, and others sit quietly to read their documents or books. Each picture captures one tiny moment in people’s lives, ripe with potential for your imagination. It is wonderful for her to look at someone’s commute (上下班) and make up an entire story about the rest of their daily existence, from the father travelling with a baby to the woman welcoming a change. “What inspires me very much are the little moments that happen every day,” Dina told My Modern Met. “My work is to tell stories through a single portrait, and it proves that all you need is just to look around and find those magic moments.” 24. What will most people do when going to work? A. Chat with others face to face. B. Enjoy reading a book loudly. C. Focus on their cell phone. D. Contact others with their eyes. 25. What makes Dina Alfasi special? A. Drawing people when going to work. B. Leaning against the window and sleeping. C. Enjoying quiet time and having a daydream. D. Looking at her cell phone to enjoy pictures she draws. 26. Which word can best describe Dina Alfasi’s character? A. Helpful. B. Careful. C. Selfless. D. Considerate. 27. What is the main idea of the text? A. Little moments make Dina special. B. Cell phone is used to take special portraits. C. People go to work with different ways to kill time. D. Dina takes portraits of others when commuting. C When my best friend and I were teenagers, our favourite place to hang out was the Hallmark store. If we had the money, we would choose the perfect card for each other and then share tears or smiles depending on what emotion the words motivated. In those coming of years we developed a friendship built on sincere feelings and we often found comfort in the words of a Hallmark card. I think it is perhaps because of those years that I have become a greeting card collector. The other day, while cleaning out the storage in our home, I came across the bag in which I have kept greeting cards. They were the lasting messages that spoke the meanings of my life. I pulled out a card to look. It had a stick figure on the front that seemed to be drawn in my picture. I giggled (咯咯地笑) as I realized this was exactly how my oldest daughter saw her mum. Opening it up I saw a hand drawn heart with eyes and a big smile. On the other side were some words “You are the best mum in the world!” This may be one card that Hallmark can’t compete with, for it is a treasure more precious than gold. I can’t go back to where I’ve been but, from time to time, I can be taken into a welcomed memory trip. These are the Hallmark moments of our lives. Words from once upon a time inspire us to appreciate the people in our lives who mean so much. When we sometimes have doubts, or when the world deals us unfair blows, the encouraging words are there in black and white, sometimes drawn as in a homemade stick figure with a heart shaped smiley face standing out from the rest of the pile. Life is a Hallmark card when you care enough to send the very best. 28. What influence does the Hallmark card have on the author? A. Finding her real hobby. B. Becoming a postcard collector. C. Getting real friendship and comfort. D. Sharing the experience of life with friends. 29. The author uses “a welcomed memory trip” in Paragraph 2 to show that ____. A. she often remembers her past B. those cards are very meaningful for her C. her daughter’s words move her deeply D. drawing herself on the cards is very meaningful 30. Why does the author think the words on the cards mean a lot? A. Because they make her fill with thankfulness. 福建高三 英语试题卷 第 5 页(共 8 页) 福建高三 英语试题卷 第 6 页(共 8 页) B. Because they are written in different colors. C. Because they can help her overcome doubts. D. Because they always give her opportunities. 31. Which of the following can be the best title of the passage? A. Words on the Cards B. Life Is a Hallmark Card C. Collecting Greeting Cards D. Memory in the Childhood D The climate change has become an issue that no one can escape from. If the world wants to limit climate change, water shortage and pollution, then we all need to choose “flexitarian (弹性素食)” diets, say scientists. This means eating mainly plant-based foods, which is one of three key steps towards a sustainable future for all in 2050, they say. Food waste will need to be halved and farming practices will also have to improve, according to the study. Without action, the impacts of the food system could increase by up to 90%. Fast on the heels of the landmark report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) comes this new study on how food production and consumption impact major threats to the planet. The authors say that the food system has a number of significant environmental impacts including being a major driver of climate change, providing freshwater and reducing pollution through over use of nitrogen ( 氮 ) and phosphorous (磷). The study says that thanks to the population and income growth expected between 2010 and 2050, these impacts could grow between 50-90%. This could push our world beyond its geographic boundaries. So when it comes to climate change, the authors looked at what they called a “flexitarian diet”. “We can eat a range of healthy diets but what they all have in common, according to the latest scientific evidence, is that they are all relatively plant based,” said lead author Dr Marco Springmann from the University of Oxford. “You can go from a diet that has small amounts of animal products; some might call it a Mediterranean based diet; we call it a flexitarian diet. We tried to stay with the most conservative one of these which in our view is the flexitarian one, but even this has only one serving of red meat per week,” he added. If the world moved to this type of diet, the study found that greenhouse gas emissions (排放) from agriculture would be reduced by more than half. 32. What benefit will the new diets bring to the world? A. The animals will be saved. B. People will need more water. C. The climate change will stop. D. The pollution will be controlled. 33. What can be called a “flexitarian” diet? A. Eat animal products every meal. B. Eat plant-based vegetables every meal. C. Eat mainly vegetables and never eat animal products. D. Eat plant-based meal mainly and animal products sometimes. 34. What will happen if the new diet is popular globally? A. The climate will become warmer. B. The food consumption will increase. C. People will have less greenhouse gas. D. People will produce more food waste. 35. What is the attitude of the author to the new diet? A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Opposed. D. Firstly, cultural relics have survived for long and they are usually rare and valuable. Their safety is a red line that can never be crossed, which is a global and serious issue. As symbols of great ancient civilization, it is of importance to protect them. Moreover, the government makes policies to regulate people’s behavior at the relics and call on people to take effective measures to better protect them. If taking these suggestions , you’ll find them useful. Yours sincerely, Li Hua 听力录音材料 Text 1 W:If you stand in line and buy the tickets, I will go and get us some snacks! M:Thanks, Laura. She wrote it to German musician Sascha Herchenbach after he wrote a song called Born To Fight in honour of Schumacher and sent her a CD of the song. Herchenbach said he never expected to receive a response, but got a handwritten letter in return. Herchenbach showed the existence of the letter and its contents in an interview with German magazine Bunte. It is not known exactly when the letter was written, but Herchenbach wrote his song in December 2014, a year after Schumacher’s accident. Michael Schumacher fell while skiing with son Mick in Meribel in the French Alps on December 29, 2013. Schumacher hit the right side of his head on a rock, breaking his helmet. He was rushed to hospital where he had several life-saving operations and spent the next six months in the sleeping state. In April 2014 he woke up and was taken from the hospital in Grenoble to a private position, believed to be his house near Lake Geneva, where he is being cared for.
