Sunstroke ,sometimes called heatstroke ,is a result of the body temperature rising above the safe limit. This causes the body's necessary functions to stop working. It's usually pretty easy to avoid sunstroke,as long as proper action is taken. In that case , you need to act as quickly as possible to return that person's body to a safe temperature. Here are a few tips to help treat sunstroke. Call for help Call to get an ambulance as quickly as possible. This should be the first thing you do, especially if the sunstroke person has fainted (昏倒).Also, call for help from anyone nearby if you're in a public place. If there's no one around, call someone nearby if they can get there sooner than an ambulance. Ask everyone to bring you as much water as possible, if there isn't much nearby. Get the person to a cooler area If there's a building nearby, aim for that. Anywhere with plenty of air conditioners and water is perfect. If a building isn't available, bring the person to a wellshaded area. Get the water flowing If the person is still conscious, get him or her to drink water. If there's a bathtub available, fill it with cool water and put the person in it. If your water supply is limited, you have to save it. Dampen a towel or shirt and put it on the person's body. Focus on the face, neck, and chest. Fan the person Getting moving air over the person cools him or her down. Use anything,a towel or sheet,a shirt, your hands,or a piece of board. This is where having many people around really helps,as they can combine to fan the entire body. 21.When does a person get sunstroke? A.When the body doesn't function. B.When proper care is given immediately. C.When someone is exposed to the sun too long. D.When the body temperature goes up beyond what one can bear. 22.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the text? A.Call for assistance from others. B. Leave the sunstroke person in the shade. C.Put a wet towel on the person's face. D. Help the person take some medicine. 23.What is mainly discussed in the passage? A.The first aid for sunstroke. B.The causes of sunstroke. C.The chief symptoms of sunstroke. D.The essential prevention of sunstroke. B We don't know how different our life will be in the future. We can only try to imagine it. At first we think about human relationships. In the year 2050,we will use computers almost every day,we will be making new friends through the Internet—even our husbands or wives will be met in this way. It will be much faster and easier for us. On the other hand, our relationships with other people won't be as important as they are today—we will feel a little lonely. Computers will also help us in many other activities in 2050.For example, they will be used by children at school to make their learning easier. In addition, there will be more other machines which will play a similar role as computers, like robots which will do the housework for us.Spending holidays will also be completely different. Travelling to other planets or to the moon will be available for everyone. Means of transport will,of course, change, too. We will be using solarpowered cars, which will be much environmentally friendly. We could expect that the faster economic development would lead to a more polluted environment. But it isn't true. We will pay more attention to protecting the environment. Scientists will probably find cures for many dangerous diseases , like cancer or AIDS. Therefore, our surroundings as well as health will be in better condition. Although we cannot predict the exact changes which will be made in the world,we often think about them. We worry about our and our children's future ; we have expectations, hopes as well as fears. But I think we should be rather sanguine about our future. We should be happy and believe good things will happen. 24.The underlined word “sanguine” in the last paragraph most probably means . A.disappointed B.surprised C.curious D.optimistic 25.According to the passage, which of the following will happen in 2050? A.It will not be difficult for people to travel to other planets. B.Our environment will be much polluted with a growing number of cars. C.The way of spending holidays will be the same as that of today. D.The relationship between people will be more important. 26.The third paragraph mainly tells . A.that computers will do all the things for human beings B.how people will use robots to do the housework C.that machines like computers and robots will help people a lot D.how people will use computers to communicate with each other 27.What does the passage mainly talk about? A.What high technology will appear in the year 2050. B.What our life will be like in the year 2050. C.How people will communicate in the year 2050. D.How people will travel and spend their holidays in the year 2050. C Newspapers are not nearly as popular today as they were in the past. There are not very many people who seriously read a newspaper every day. Most people only read the sports pages, the advice or the gossip columns, the comics, and perhaps the classified advertisements. Most people don't take time to read real news. They attempt to catch the reader's interest with pictures and exciting headlines. These techniques are used on the front page because it is the first thing you see when you pick up the paper. The first page attracts attention and encourages the reader to look through the rest of the paper. This is why editors always look for a good first page story and a headline to make them stop and look. If the headline is horrible enough or frightening enough or wild enough, perhaps they will go on to read the front page. However, they may read the headlines, but that is all, then they turn to the sports page,or comics,or advertisements. It seems that people do not want the news from a newspaper any more. They say they get the news on television now. More people watch television news because it is easier and more interesting than reading a newspaper. What about you?Do you read news from a newspaper ?Do you think it is easier to get news from television ?Or do you care about news at all?Would you mind if there were no news? 28.According to the passage, newspapers are . A.more popular today B.less popular today C.as popular as before D.getting more and more popular 29.According to the author, which of the following newspapers will most probably attract the reader's attention? A.The ones with interesting pictures and exciting headlines on the front page. B.The ones with sports news on the front page. C.The ones with classified ads on the front page. D.The ones with gossip columns on the front page. 30.According to the passage, most people read all of the following EXCEPT . A.the sports page B.comics C.advertisements D.real news 第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2 分,满分 10 分) 根据短文内容从 A—G 选项中选出最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 No one likes to fail.Whether it's at work,at home,or in another area of your life, failure is painful and it can also be costly in terms of time, money,or both.__31__ If you never suffer a failure, then you're probably not pushing yourself to your full potential. The following are some tips on how to pick yourself up after you've failed. Remember that other people fail too.__32__ They'll tell you about that great new contract they signed , not the deal that failed eventually though they worked on it for months. But failure is normal, and lots of people fail time and time again before meeting with success. Remind yourself of your past successes.Failing doesn't mean that you're worthless,or that you'll never achieve the things you want. 33 . Maybe you had high marks last term, or you lost weight,or you learned to play a musical instrument. You might want to write down a list of successes—things that you've accomplished over the past few years, whether big or small. If you ever lack confidence, you can go back and read over that list. __34__ Your past successes are important, but so are your past failures. You've made mistakes before, and you've survived them.Perhaps you did badly in an exam,or lost your temper and had to apologize. It's not fun to think about the times when things went wrong, but by acknowledging your failures, you can remind yourself that today is no different.Just as you recovered in the past , you can recover from your recent failure too.__35__ Whatever went wrong , you're probably facing some sort of decision.Don't rush into making hasty decision , but do look for a forward path. That might require some deep thinking. A.Make a decision. B.Limit the damage caused. C.Remind yourself of your past failures. D.However, failure is a normal part of life. E.Get some advice and support from others. As for what I have experienced during the week-long National Day holiday, here’s something I’m glad to share with you. When traveling with my parents on a tour, we’re amazed at the changes and convenience brought by artificial intelligence. First of all, wherever and whenever we went, we could use mobile payment. More interestingly, unlike the previous years when we had to get into tourist attractions with the ID card, now we can do it through a face recognition app, which really saves time so that we needn’t wait in a queue. What an amazing experience! I do hope you can come to China and experience all of this when you have spare time. Looking forward to your coming. Yours sincerely, Li Hua
