Possible version
My face pressed against the window and I found it hard to breathe. The car pulled in front of
the house, and out of it emerged my precious daughter, making her way up the steps. Tears
stinging my eyes, I threw open the door, pulled her inside and hugged her tightly. The dream was
just too real and I could hardly believe I was now having my daughter in my hug. I wondered if it
was because my pray was answered. Then through my blurred vision I saw a lady stepping out of
the car. “Mom, she gave me a ride home.” Becki said. “My car broke down on the highway and
without her help, I would never have made it home in my high heels.” she continued, exposing her
blistered ankles. My heart shuddered at the thought of how painfully she staggered along the dark
highway. She must be an angel for Becki! I approached the lady and invited her inside. Now, I
was definitely grateful to her for extending a helping hand.
录音原文
Text 1
M: Excuse me. Can you tell me where pizzas are?
W: Pizzas. Er, let me think. Oh yeah, they are over there in the food section, next to the clothing.
Text 2
M: Could you tell me the time of the first and the second periods?
W: Sure. The first period begins at 8:00 a.m. and lasts until 8:50 and the second one is from 9:05
to 9:55.
Text 3
M: Who is that man sitting in the corner?
W: Don’t you remember? He attended our wedding party.
M: Oh, I remember now. Uncle Philip, our father’s coworker.
W: You are right.
Text 4
M: Do you want to go out this evening?
W: No, I thought I’d get some painting done.
M: I’ll help you when I finish my tea.
Text 5
M: Do you live very far from your office?
W: Well, the distance is about 20 miles. But it doesn’t seem that far. The road is good and there’s
not
much traffic.
Text 6
M: Holly, shall we have tea at the Rain Teahouse?
W: Good idea. We really should have a rest. When?
M: How about this afternoon?
W: No problem. I remember you like beer most. Why do you want to drink tea suddenly?
M: I am interested in China’s tea culture and what a teahouse is.
W: Really? What kind of tea do the Cantonese like?
M: That’s too easy, black tea, of course.
W: Why do Chinese people like tea in their lives?
M: Drinking tea can refresh oneself.
W: Pretty good. You have learned so much after you come to China from America.
Text 7
W: I really hate the bad traffic, Danny. The crowds. The rush. I spend two hours a day on the
subway and
on buses.
M: That’s city life for you.W: You are really lucky, Danny. You go to work when everyone’s at home.
M: True.
W: The other day, I waited half an hour for a No.74 bus and then three No.74 buses arrived at the
same
time! It made me mad.
M: Well, a bus is better than the subway. Who wants to be stuck in tunnel? But I know someone
who’s solved the problem.
W: Who’s that? You?
M: No, Tony Berelli. He lives over the store.
Text 8
W: Tell me exactly what happened.
M: Well, I was walking through the park yesterday when a woman knocked me right off my feet
and ran off through the trees.
W: Can you describe the woman for me?
M: Yeah. She was about 190 centimeters tall, and wearing a red sweater, and a pair of basketball
shoes.
W: Hmm. What else?
M: She had a heavy build, with long hair and was probably in her late 30s.
W: What was, uh, taken…exactly?
M: Well, just my left shoe.
W: Oh, this man again! He often wanders around the park. He likes to remove the left shoe from
men for some unknown reason and usually returns the shoe to the crime scene a couple of days
later.
M: Hey, he can keep my shoe, and I’ll just take off my left shoe every time I walk through the
park.
Text 9
W: Did you know it was going to rain today?
M: Absolutely not. This comes as a total shock to me especially since the paper said mostly sunny.
W: Well, I guess the paper must have meant mostly sunny somewhere else. But since we’ve come
all this way, why don’t we just move the blanket under that tree?
M: That’s a good idea. It looks like it’s still dry there as long as it doesn’t start to come down any
harder.
W: No. But I have got some folding chairs in the car. Will they do?
M: They will be just fine. I’m really hungry, so while you are there, how about bringing me the
food?
W: I thought you were bringing the food.
M: This is unbelievable. If I weren’t so hungry, it would be really funny. So what now?
W: What is the name of that restaurant you like so much again?
Text 10
A well-dressed lady walks into a bank in Washington D.C. and asks for the loan officer. She
says
she’s going to Asia on business for two weeks and needs to borrow $5,000. The bank officer tells
her that the bank will need some kind of security for such a loan, so the lady hands over the keys
to an expensive new car parked on the street in front of the bank. With everything checked out, the bank agrees to accept the car as security for the loan. The loan officer drives the car into the
bank’s underground garage and parks it there. Two weeks later, the lady returns and repays the
$5,000 and the interests, which comes to $ 15.41. The loan officer comes up to the lady and says,
“We are very happy to have had your business, but we’re a little puzzled. While you were away,
we checked out your accounts and found that you had a lot of money. I don’t understand why you
would bother to borrow $5,000.” The lady replied, “Well, where else in Washington D.C. can I
park my car for two weeks for about 15 dollars?”
