My mum is always at work and my sister are never around, so I have nothing to do. My
house is boring. The train lets me escape and explore.
I have been taking the train for five years. I've learned that it's fast and convenient. I live
about two miles from the Blue Line Imperial station. I like taking the train because it gives me
freedom.
My favorite place to go to is downtown. I take the train to Macy's Plaza in front of the 7th
Street Station to do some shopping at Borders or Victoria's Secret, or to get something to eat at
the food court. With 25cents, you can take the DASH bus from the station to get to the Fashion
District. Since I like making accessories(首饰) like earrings, I love going there because of all the
deals on jewelry supplies. I also go to the American Apparel factory because the clothes there are
cheaper and the store is huge.
I take the train to the Museum of Contemporary Art with friends on the first Sunday of every
month since we can get in for free. We tour around the museum and get to do an art project at the
end. I like going to the museum because there are a lot of wonderful things.
The cool thing about the train is that it connects to other train lines, which lets you see
different parts of the city. The Gold Line runs from Union Station northeast to Pasadena and now
east to East L.A. The Red Line goes from downtown to Hollywood. The Purple Line goes from
Union Station to Koreatown and the Green Line goes from Norwalk to several beaches. When I
don't know how to get somewhere, I go to mta.net, type in my starting point and end point and
get times and routes. I hardly ever get lost.

25.What does the writer often go to downtown for?
A. To eat pizza B. To do the shopping
C. To visit her friends D. To make accessories
26. We can know from the passage that the writer
A. doesn't like spending time with her friends
B. often takes a course of art appreciation in a museum
C. goes to a museum so as to find some wonderful things
D. visits a museum with her friends once a month
27.The writer seldom gets lost because
A. she often takes a map with her
B. she is familiar with every line
C. she often has a travel guide with her
D. she often refers to a website for bus and train lines
C
Whether we admit it or not, most of us are scared of something. Sometimes, we grow out of
it. When I was little, I hated the dark. I slept with a small nightlight on; my parents would turn it
off when I had fallen asleep. Now, I can' t get to sleep with a light on; I need it to be dark to fall
asleep!
Like lots of people, I'm terrified of spiders. Usually, I leave a jar or cup over the spider ask
my mum to throw it away! When I was living in France this year, that wasn't a choice. I almost
screamed when I saw a spider on my toothpaste and had to remove it myself !
I am also scared of clowns( 小 丑 ). Although they are supposed to be funny, I find their
painted faces very scary! When I was little, I would go to the circus with my family. I loved all
the tricks and the magic, but I couldn't watch the clowns
Until this year, I had always loved flying. I still enjoy the take-off and landing and going
through the clouds. However, when I fly alone I often find myself feeling slightly petrified
before the flight leaves. For some reason, I am scared that the plane will crash- even though
statistics(统计数据)show that you are more likely to be in a car crash than a plane crash.
There are lots of courses you can take which will supposedly cure your fears. I don't know
how effective they are, but I think time is the best cure. Even if you never lose your fear of
something entirely, over time you may become more relaxed about it.
28. Which of the following is NOT the thing that the author is scared of?
A. The dark B. The spider. C. The clown. D. Flying alone
29.What does the underlined word "petrified"(in Para. 4)probably mean?
A. Excited B. Puzzled C. Frightened D. Amazed
30. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Fear may be cured over a long period of time
B. Fear of something can make people nervous all the time
C. People can deal with their fears by attending some courses
D. People should pretend to be relaxed when they are scared
31.Where can you probably find the passage?
A. On a notice board B. In a company brochure.
C. On a teenage website D. In a scientific report5
D
This may sound like a joke about a lazy persons dream job: Earn big money by staying in
bed and watching TV. But this is really happening, and it's a project of NASA and two European
space agencies. It's called Artificial Gravity Bed Rest Study, aimed at studying how the body
adapts (适应)to weightlessness in space.
Scientists are seeking 12 women to spend two full months in bed in the fall at a German lab,
plus an additional month there for preparation and recovery. The first 12 test subjects, all men,
already have started the study
Participants spend two entire months in bed and remain lying down even to do everyday
things like eating, drinking and exercising. They also answer nature's call and shower, but it's
unclear from the NASA website how those tasks are accomplished in bed.
"Daily routine---showering, getting dressed, eating and exercising---takes much time when
you cannot stand up to do them, "says the website, adding that there is "continuous data
collection" including blood pressure, heart rate and nutrient absorption. Study subjects will spend
the 60 days with their heads tilted (倾斜)down six degrees, which imitates conditions in space.
Participants are encouraged to pass the time by watching TV, taking online courses, reading
and any other activities they can perform while lying down alone in bed to relieve boredom.
Family and friends are also allowed to visit.
The high $18, 500 payment for two months while lying down in bed is probably a major
motivation for people willing to undergo something extreme. However, if you're an American
who really needs the money, you probably can't afford it. Candidates( 申请人) need to travel to
Cologne four times at their own expense for the employment process between April and July.
Plus, they need strong German-speaking skills. Also participants need to be nonsmokers between
ages 24 and 55, in good health, with normal body weight.
32.What are participants expected to do during the study?
A .Dream about being wealthy. B. Explore the mystery of the space
C. Report their feelings on a regular basis D .Complete their everyday life on the bed
33. What data about the participants will the researchers collect?
A. Their sleep quality B. Their body weight
C. Their daily lifestyle D. Their physical reaction
34.Why are family and friends permitted to visit the participants?
A. To show concern for them B. To prevent them feeling dull
C. To learn about their progress D. To encourage and motivate them
35.How are the requirements for potential participants?
A. They are strict for Germans B. They are suitable for most people
C. They are easy for the youth to satisfy D. They are challenging for some Americans

China has been the birthplace of many of the world's greatest inventions. It was, for
example, the first country to produce paper money. Before the invention of paper money and
coins, people used many different kinds of things for buying and selling. 36. This
exchange of goods and services for other goods and services is called bartering.6
37. In 1200 BC, people china began to use shells (贝壳) as money. Usually the

distances, and allowed for trade to develop between different parts of the country.
In the years which followed this invention, many other countries around the world began
to do the same.38.
The next development was in 1000 BC, when China started making bronze and copper
shells. It wasn't long before the Chinese made round coins out of metal. 39. By 500 BC,
metal coins had begun to appear in countries like Persia and Greece, and later in the Roman
Empire.
About 1000 years later, leather was used as money in China, and in 806 AD, the first paper
banknotes were produced by the Chinese people.40.
A. As time went by, trade between countries increased.
B. People also began collecting foreign coins as souvenirs.
C. They also used tiny shells as money for buying and selling.
D. It was still many years before paper currency appeared in Europe.
E. However, as economies developed, such exchanges became impractical
F. During that time, for example, buying a chicken might cost several potatoes.
G. The very first coins often had holes in them so that people could string them together.

Our class had a discussion about whether it's necessary put monitoring cameras in our
classroom. Opinions are divided to this topic.
Some are in favor of this idea, thinking monitoring cameras can be using to monitor
teachers' teaching, that encourages teachers to prepare their lessons better. Beside, it is a useful
way to avoid exam cheating, which is a seriously problem in some schools.
However, another students are against that because they feel stressful if they feel someone is
watching them all the time. Also, they thought it will affect their privacy. In my opinion, since
they can encourage everyone to behave well, why not to accept them?
