Text 1
W: Here’s ten dollars. I’ll pick you up in thirty minutes at the front of the mall. Find a nice gift for your
friend’s birthday.
M: Aw, Mom! Can’t I have twenty?
Text 2
M: When did you learn to draw like that? Did you take lessons when you were a kid?
W: No, I learned it in college during the summer. I thought about taking an art class in high school, but at the
time I was too busy to handle many lessons.
M: Aw, Mom! Can’t I have twenty?
Text 3
M: Your sister did poorly on that math test. Do you know what’s going on?
W: Her attention is wandering lately. She isn’t working so hard, either.
M: Would you please talk to her and see if she needs help? I can hire a tutor.
Text 4
W: Excuse me, sir? Can I move a little closer to the front? Nobody is sitting there.
M: I’m sorry, I’m afraid those seats have already been reserved. The people sitting there should be arriving
shortly.
Text 5
M: I wish there was a gas station in the town up ahead or we’re never going to make it to the hotel on time.
W: Relax, will you? We just passed a sign a few minutes ago saying there is one. Everything is going to be
just fine.
Text 6
W: Hello, Bruce. I haven’t seen you this past autumn.
M: I know. My parents put me in a private school.高三英语听力材料 — — (共 4页)2
W: What do you think so far?
M: The school is really nice.
W: I heard that you can’t wear the clothes you want. Is that true?
M: Yeah. We have to wear a dress shirt, a tie, and dress pants every day.
W: Really?
M: Yeah, but there are other cool things. They don’t take away our phones, and we are all getting our own
personal computers when the spring comes.
W: That does sound cool!
Text 7
W: Do you like my new blouse?
M: That is beautiful. What is it made of?
W: It is silk from China — the country’s most famous invention.
M: I thought that was gunpowder. Didn’t they invent printing as well?
W: Maybe, but silk is the one I like most.
M: It is made by worms, though. Do you feel comfortable wearing something that comes from worms?
W: It feels great. That is the best thing about it. It feels so nice against my skin — and of course it is strong
and looks good.
M: Expensive too, should I imagine that?
W: Yes. All the best things are.
M: That isn’t true. Love needn’t be expensive and that is the greatest thing.
W: Surely life itself is the greatest free thing. That and nature.
M: You are welcome to your opinion but, whatever, I still like your silk blouse.
Text 8
W: Do you ever look at the stars at night and wonder if there is any life on other planets?
M: Yes, I do. There are so many millions of planets out there, and I think there must be life somewhere.
W: What about nearby planets?
M: They say there might once have been life on one of them.高三英语听力材料 — — (共 4页)3
W: I heard about that. I wonder what they looked like, the people on that planet.
M: They wouldn’t have been people or animals. Not even insects. More like tiny cell creatures.
W: Do you think we will ever find life somewhere else in space?
M: Maybe other planets will try to communicate with us.
W: I don’t think that will happen in my lifetime. Maybe in a century.
M: But computers are becoming so powerful. I bet we will hear from them in 25 or 50 years.
W: I never thought of that. I was thinking about finding them with rockets and telescopes. But you are right.
That is how they will be found.
M: Let’s hope they are friendly when they decide to get in touch.
Text 9
M: Hey, Alice. I’m sorry I am late.
W: Don’t worry about it. Did you have trouble finding a spot to park?
M: Actually, that wasn’t the problem. I left early enough to avoid the traffic, but I couldn’t get across the
bridge.
W: What’s happening on the bridge?
M: I couldn’t tell. I just saw the road signs, so I turned around and took the long way here.
W: Well, it looks like we missed the worst of the weather. It was pouring this morning.
M: That’s good. I can see the sky is clearing up and the wind has stopped. What are those tents for?
W: They’re for the food fair. It will close soon, so you’d better get over there if you want to eat.
Unfortunately, you came a bit late for the music.
M: So what is this event all about, anyway?
W: It’s just a community festival we have every year. All the food, entertainment and activities represent the
many cultures in our city.
M: Cool. What’s happening across the street at the stadium? I saw that the local TV stations are all set up
there.
W: That’s where all the dancing and sports events will take place. This area is for families. I saved us this
spot on the grass here.高三英语听力材料 — — (共 4页)4
M: That sounds fun. I’ll go grab something at the tents, and then meet you back here.

Hello, my friends. I am Professor Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts School of Magic. Before
you enter the castle, I must warn you. The adventure ahead is dangerous, and not suitable for everyone.
For this reason, children under the age of five or smaller than 48 inches will not be allowed to enter. We
also strongly recommend that people over 80, especially those with heart conditions, consider these risks.
However, if you are brave enough to continue forward, there is something I must ask of you. In the next
room, you will be given a key to your own personal security box. I urge you to put your valuables inside,
such as cell phones, purses, hats or even glasses. There is a real possibility they might be lost during our
adventure, and we don’t want that, do we? Next, you will pass through the winding hallways of the
castle. Don’t be afraid of the talking paintings. They are just some of my colleagues. Follow their voices
and you will end up at your destination. Once there, allow our friendly staff to give you a hand with your
seat belts. Please keep them securely fastened and your hands on the bars at all times. At the end of your
journey, please look out for the green exit signs, which will lead you back to your belongings. And now,
on behalf of Universal Studios in Hollywood, California, I welcome you to Harry Potter and the
Forbidden Journey!
