Generally, when rescue workers save the lives of people in emergency situations, they never see each other again. However, this was not the case for Mike Wilson, a member of the U.S. Air Force, and Jennifer Brown, the "little" girl Wilson picked up from the waters of Hurricane Ike in 2008.
The Air Force pilot took a photo of the moment Jennifer gave her rescuer the biggest hug that he would never forget. The photo touched hearts around the world. For Wilson, who was fighting an illness at the time, it was especially precious. He carried the photo with him everywhere to remind him of one of the most special moments in his life. Eventually, he decided to find the little girl who changed his life and even ran a FindIkeGirl activity on social media.
Finally, 10 years later, the two met again on the set of The Real in September 2018. And Wilson told Jennifer, "You, rescued me more than I rescued you". They did not end their friendship there. Ever since they met again, Wilson has visited her family and has spoken to her on the phone weekly. This Saturday, he will visit the Browns again, as 14-year-old Jennifer is bringing him to her military training program, which she encouraged herself to join in with the support Wilson has provided. "I'm going because I would do anything for her and her family in return for the hug. They mean as much to me as my own family, "Wilson says.
The girl tells PEOPLE: "The program was very interesting and a challenge for me because I had never done it before". She even plans to join the military one day. "I am Proud of her no matter what she does and will support her in everything she does, "Wilson said. "I think she understands service and I believe that she will do great things no matter what she chooses."
21. How did Wilson and Jennifer come to know each other?
A. Wilson took a photo for Jennifer.
B. Wilson rescued Jennifer in a disaster.
C. Jennifer encouraged Wilson to fight an illness.
D. Jennifer brought Wilson to a training program.
22. Wilson started an activity on social media in order to_______.
A. find the girl he once saved
B. raise money for Jennifer's dream
C. share the moving story of Jennifer
D. encourage more people to be helpful
23. The underlined part in Para. 3 suggests Jennifer________.
A. managed to save Wilson's life
B. offered Wilson courage to go on
C. made Wilson known to the world
D. developed a lasting friendship with Wilson
B
The letter arrives from a school that your son told you is his dream school. You dare not open it,instead, you hand it to him when he arrives home from school. You watch as his eyes light up and you know this is the beginning of something. You are just not sure what. Your son insists that the coach must really want him since he took the time to write him a letter. Is this in fact true?Did he write other kids and if so how many? How would you know?
The simple fact of the matter is that you can read very little into that first letter. Coaches cast a wide net in the first few stages of the recruiting(录取)cycle. That letter may in fact,be the first and last time your son ever hears from that particular coach. Think about it:if he has not seen your sons transcripts or his standardized test scores,if you have not visited the school,if he has no knowledge of your financial needs, can it be anything significant?
So how do you treat these letters or emails? Is there some format you can apply?Say tor instance, three letters mean real interest…or three letters and a call means a greater degree of interest?
My experience in deal with cases of various applications is that answers will not come automatically. Call the coach and find out how real the interest in fact is. "Is my son a top recruit in your mind?" "How many players at his position will you be recruiting this year?" By asking these simple and direct questions, you as a parent, will have established a dialogue and hopefully figured out how much interest,if any really exists. However, here comes the challenge. Applicants and parents are vague with coaches about their intention and level of interest all the time. In fact, the coach's situation is no less confusing than yours. He is fighting a similar battle on multiple choices. There is little clarity on either end.
Enjoy that first letter. Let's hope it is one of many and let's hope you apply a bit of realism with a bit of wishful thinking about how happy your son should be when this is all over.
24. How did the parent feel about the letter that his son got from his dreamed school? ______
A. expectant B. hesitant
C. doubtful D. hopeful
25 According to the passage,by calling the coach, parents can______ .
A. determine the level of interest from coach
B. build up a communication with the coach
C. identify the real intention of the coach
D. understand more about the situation of the coach
26. The author of the passage is most likely to be ______ .
A. a consultant to help students with their application
B. a parent with similar experiences
C. a school authority that supervises the application
D. a coach in charge of the application
27. The purpose of the passage is to ______ .
A. remind parents of the importance of the first letter from coaches
B. tell parents how to react to the first letter from coaches
C. advise parents to ignore the first letter from coaches
D. warn parents to be realistic towards the first letter from coaches
C
Since we are social beings, the quality of our lives depends in large measure on our interpersonal relationships.
One strength of the human condition is our tendency to give and receive support from one another under stressful circumstances. Social support consists of the exchange of resources among people based on their interpersonal ties.
Those of us with strong support systems appear better able to deal with major life changes and daily difficulties. People with strong social ties live longer and have better health than those without such ties. Studies over a range of illnesses, from depression to heart disease, show that the presence of social support helps people protect themselves from illness, and the absence of such support makes poor health more likely.
Social support cushions stress in a number of ways. First, friends, relatives, and co-workers may let us know that they value us. Our self-respect is strengthened when we feel accepted by others despite our faults and difficulties.
Second, other people often provide us with informational support. They help us to explain and understand our problems and find solutions to them. Third,we typically find social companionship supportive. Engaging in leisure-time activities with others helps us to meet our social needs while at the same time distracting(转移……注意力)us from our worries and troubles. Finally, other people may give us instrumental support-financial aid, material resources, and needed services-that reduces stress by helping us solve and deal with our problems.
28. Research shows that people's physical and mental health has much to do with ______ .
A. the social medical system
B. the amount of support they get from others
C. their strength for dealing with interpersonal ties
D. their ability to deal with daily worries and troubles
29. The underlined word "cushions" probably means" ______ ".

第二节 读后续写(满分25分)
阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
In 1989, fresh out of high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited options: becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn’t interested in engineering, so that I was left with medicine or business. I couldn’t decide.
My uncle, one of the ciders in the family, suggested that I do a work placement to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could
make a decision. It seemed like a brilliant idea.
I was accepted for a month’s placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. I got a feel for how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easy-going work surroundings.
The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn’t have been more different. The hospital had an intense environment. The days started early (at 7 am, compared to 9 am at the bank), and were filled with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day.
I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement and unpredictability, but the studying and training was difficult. It seemed that the business option was going to win out.
Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night call. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through (穿梭) traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side.
Paragraph 1:
Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

第二节 书面表达 (满25分)略
Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. He hit the road face down and rolled over. He lay still in the middle of the road as the bus sped away. None of the cars behind stopped. Thinking that he could die in a matter of minutes, I stopped my car and carefully examined the boy. With the help of some passers-by, I lifted the unconscious boy into the car and raced back to the hospital. After his family was contacted, and he was wheeled into emergency surgery, I drove home, exhausted but happy. (86)
The next day, when I went to the hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. What a feeling it was to help save the life of another person! I spent the rest of the day in a state of the most fabulous mood I had ever experienced. Driving home that evening, I decided on my career path. Two months of placements could not do what 30 minutes’ helping an accident victim had done for me. This experience taught me that at times, the decisions are made for you—and that whatever happens is always for the best. (82)

听力原文
Text 1
M: I’d rather have that fashionable car in red. (1)White paint needs too many washes.
W: I prefer that model in white and yellow.
M: How am I supposed to drive in the city in one of those? They look like flowers!
Text 2
W: Do you like my expensive-looking jacket? I just bought it yesterday. They are having a sale at Walmart. It ends tomorrow, though.
M: That would’ve been perfect. I need a new jacket because it’s already so cold, but I have to go to the office today. (2)
Text 3
M: I said you could get one piece of candy, not a whole pineapple.
W: Fruit is nature’s candy! You should try eating it instead.
M: We don’t have room in the cart for that. Put it back. (3)
Text 4
M: Is that dad’s car?
W: It can’t be him. He said he was going shopping with mom and then to see a film with our cousin John.(4)
M: It’s him! We’re going to be punished when they see this mess.
Text 5
W: Ralph already knows how to unlock his seatbelt and our ice box.
M: He’s a really smart one-year-old. Philip didn’t start any of that until at least three years old. That’s when I started losing my hair.
W: Philip’s 10th birthday will be next week! (5)
Text 6
W: According to the X-ray, this isn’t the first time you’ve broken your wrist.(6)
M: I fell down when I was skateboarding, but that was 10 years ago.
W: Well, this second break may have done permanent damage. We will not know until it is a little better. The nurse should be bringing in the rest of your test data so that I can give you some medicine.(7)
M: Do you think I’ll need a physical care provider?
W: It depends on the injury, but you shouldn’t avoid that just because it might hurt. If it means the difference between nerve damage and gaining the full use of your wrist back, you should see the physical care provider.
Text 7
W: Soon I’ll be working with great actors like Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman! Film makers from all around the world will fight over having me as the star.(8)
M: Don’t you have to go to school for that? Or at least have been in plays?
W: Traditional education is for people with no talent.
M: Have you signed up for any interviews yet? That’s the only way you’ll be able to get a job. I’ve heard those things can get pretty competitive. There are a lot of people who think just like you do.
W: I have an interview this coming week for a commercial.
M: If you want, I can call my uncle. He has been an actor for 30 years. He could teach you something.
W: I don’t need lessons! I need opportunities. Tell him to set up an interview for me instead!(9)
Text 8
W: I can’t believe this! I thought I was going to die back there! How dare you take me out to the woods? Let’s go back to the city. I need malls and roads!
M: It was only a snake, and it was like 30 meters away from us. Besides, we’re only out here for the weekend. How about getting back to the tent? I’ll make you some hot chocolate.
W: Is it Starbucks hot chocolate? You know I only drink brand name products. I can’t believe I let you trick me into this! I can’t even get a phone signal out here!
M: Is this your first time outside the city?
W: Of course not! I travel all around the world with my family, meeting friends. We go to beautiful places with beaches, not dirty trees and creatures! My father does business all around the world and he flies us around in his private plane.(10) I should be in Belize spending a vacation with my family right now!
M: This is much cheaper. I’m sorry you don’t like it, but maybe when the stars come out and we have a nice fire to sit around, you’ll appreciate it.(11、12)
Text 9
W: Have you heard about that illness everyone is worried about? (13)Apparently it is spreading through hospitals all over the country. The WHO is quite worried.
M: What is the WHO? Is that the show about the time-traveling doctor?
W: It is the World Health Organization. They are the ones who give certain rules for how to handle illnesses around the world, especially illness that can move around fast. (14)
M: What are the symptoms of the sickness? What does it do to people? What if we already have it or we are infected?
W: Relax! It is a disease that is easily affecting older people and very young children.(15) For them it can be dangerous, but for everyone else it just gives body aches and a fever. I think it goes away in a few days though. The problem is that the hospital is full of old people, babies and sick people! The WHO is working to protect everyone.
M: Wow! You have really made me sad for the day. I was going to the mall for Christmas presents, but instead I think I’ll just lie on the floor of my room and hug my dog.(16)
W: It’s easily preventable if you are careful and wash your hands though.
Text 10
W: Thank you, Ron. I’m Katie Gill here at the corner of Greenwood and Pine, where the heat of the flames can still be felt some 100 feet away.(17) The fire is said to have started inside the local bakery (18)and it has spread to the surrounding apartment buildings.
As we speak, fire fighters and police are helping those who could not make it outside without assistance. Though many seem to be safe, there is not much relief left to the residents of Battery Park. They stand here helpless to stop the fire. According to the fire department, the fire began early last night after the bakery closed.(19) There seems to be a problem with the water system in the area and it is stopping the fire prevention system from turning on. Many have come from local areas with food and water to help. They were happy to lend a hand during such a terrible time.
As far as we know, no one has been injured yet by the fire because most people have known to leave the building hours ago, but as these lucky people stand outside of their burning homes, they do not feel so blessed. This will be an August these Battery Park residents will not forget any time.(20) Now back to you in the studio.(17)
