(考试时间:100 分钟 试卷满分:120 分)
第一部分 阅读理解(共两节,满分 40 分)

阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
A
Questioning the existence of aliens is something that scientists have done for decades. In fact, most people do
believe that aliens exist in some fashion. The main necessities for life are water and some form of energy source. Not
surprisingly, there are some planets, exoplanets and moons that fit the bill. Here are several best chances at finding
life in the universe.
◆TRAPPIST-1
TRAPPIST-1 is a planetary system a few dozen light-years away, whose discovery was announced in early
2017. This system consists of seven Earth-like exoplanets orbiting an "ultra-cool" star, and it is one of our shots at
finding possible life beyond our own solar system.
◆Titan
Titan is the largest moon of Saturn, the sixth planet from our Sun. This moon could potentially harbor life but
possibly not in the sense that we think. Titan does not exactly fit the description of being in a typical habitable zone.
Titan has water, and it has liquid. It just doesn’t have liquid water. The water on this moon is completely solid
because of the extremely cold temperature.
◆Europa
Europa is one of Jupiter’s moons here in our own solar system. It is another candidate due to its potential to
hold liquid water. Europa is thought to have all the necessities for life including water, energy sources, and the right
chemical build-up.
◆Mars
The Red Planet, the fourth from the Sun, is probably one of the most talked-about potential candidates for
extraterrestrial( 地 球 外 的 ) life and even for human colonization. Despite some different voices, finding
extraterrestrial life on Mars really is a serious possibility.
We know by now that we won’t find little green men or any intelligent form of life that we understand.
However, there is evidence that there was and may still be microscopic life on the small red planet.
1. The common point of these celestial bodies is that _______.
A. solid water exists on them respectively
B. life might exist on each of them
C. they all contain liquid water
D. each of them has living things on it
2. Which celestial body could have life different from human imagination?
A. TRAPPIST-1. B. Titan. C. Europa. D. Mars.
3. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A. Europa is the most talked-about potential candidate for extraterrestrial life.
B. TRAPPIST-1 is the only body that contains life beyond the solar system.
C. All the scientists do believe that aliens exist in some manner.
D. There is proof that life existed on the celestial body Mars.
B
My father was 44 and knew he wasn’t going to make it to 45. He wrote me a letter and hoped that something in
it would help me for the rest of my life.
Since the day I was 12 and first read his letter, some of his words have lived in my heart. One part always
stands out. “Right now, you are pretending to be a time-killer. But I know that one day, you will do something great
that will set you among the very best.” Knowing that my dad believed in me gave me permission to believe in
myself. “You will do something great.” He didn’t know what that would be, and neither did I, but at times in my life
when I’ve felt proud of myself, I remember his words and wish he were here so I could ask, “Is this what you were
talking about, Dad? Should I keep going?”
A long way from 12 now, I realize he would have been proud when I made any progress. Lately, though, I’ve
come to believe he’d want me to move on to what comes next: to be proud of, and believe in, somebody else. It’s
time to start writing my own letters to my children. Our children look to us with the same unanswered question we
had. Our kids don’t hold back because they’re afraid to fail. They’re only afraid of failing us. They don’t worry
about being disappointed. Their fear-as mine was until my father’s letter-is of being a disappointment. Give your
children permission to succeed. They’re waiting for you to believe in them.
I always knew my parents loved me. But trust me: That belief will be more complete, that love will be more
real, and their belief in themselves will be greater if you write the words on their hearts:“Don’t worry; you’ll do
something great.” Not having that blessing from their parents may be the only thing holding them back.
4. We learn from the text that the author ________.
A. lost his father when he was young
B. worked hard before he read his father’s letter
C. asked his father’s permission to believe in himself
D. knew exactly what great thing his father wanted him to do英语试题 第 3 页(共 16 页) 英语试题 第 4 页(共 16 页)

Due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP), people all over the world are wearing masks to
reduce the risk of infection. In fact, masks have been helping mankind for centuries. Let’s take a look at some
mask-related history.
1st century
In that century, many people in Roman Empire worked underground in mines to support their families. But
most of them suffered from and even eventually died of respiratory(呼吸的) illnesses. To address this problem, Pliny
the Elder (23—79 AD), recommended the use of animal bladder(膀胱) skins to stop dust from being breathed in.
Although simple, his idea was considered the very first recorded mask invention.
19th century
The design of the mask took a big step forward in the 19th century. In 1848, American Lewis Hassley became
the first person to patent(注册专利) a protective mask for miners, which was a milestone in face mask history.
Masks at this stage were similar to gas masks. Later, in 1897, Polish-Austrian doctor Johann designed a simple mask
composed of one layer of gauze(纱布).
20th century
In 1910, an epidemic broke out in Northeast China. Chinese doctor Wu Liande designed a cheap face mask
called “Wu’s mask”. Made of two layers of surgical gauze, it could be wrapped around the back of the head and tied
in a knot. This mask was praised by experts around the world, as it was simple to manufacture and had a low
production cost.英语试题 第 5 页(共 16 页) 英语试题 第 6 页(共 16 页)

Smartwatches and fitness trackers(健身追踪器) have gained popularity recently. These tools can record your
daily steps, heart rates, etc. 16 . If yes, it might be a sign that you’re addicted to your fitness tracker.
17 . If you keep setting unrealistic daily goals that involve working out for too long, and if you begin
to ignore friends and responsibilities to make time for your workout, then you’re most probably addicted to your
fitness tracker.
It’s a struggle to overcome the addiction to fitness trackers. 18 . For example, the number in your
smart watch showing how far you’ve come can give you a sense of achievement.
Of course, failing to meet your daily goal can be discouraging. You might focus on your shortcomings rather
than your progress. Another problem is that you might find yourself paying too much attention to the step number
rather than how your body feels. 19 .
Therefore, if you’re spending too much time looking at your smartwatch, limit your daily step count to a
comfortable level. 20 . For example, concentrating on your hobbies or socializing with friends can be a
great way to keep your mind on other things.
A. Don’t overuse your smartwatch.
B. It doesn’t convey what you’re really feeling.
C. After all, reaching a daily step count can be so appealing.
D. How can you tell whether you’re addicted to your fitness tracker?
E. Actually, this addiction to step count can be risky, mentally and physically.
F. However, do you find yourself checking your steps and heart rates too often?
G. Besides, you can find other things to do that don’t involve checking your fitness tracker.
