B When an editor called to ask if I could photograph a story about fireflies in Mexico, I didn’t check my schedule before I said yes. I’d seen these insects light up the forests in Tlaxcala once before, and I jumped at the chance to go back. While studying, I began exploring Mexico, crossing the country several times by bus. Now I work as a photojournalist in Mexico and along the border, documenting desperate situations that face everyday Mexicans. Though necessary and important, news stories don’t reflect the Mexico that I fell for and that is home to so many people I love. A task focused on the country’s natural beauty was a welcome relief for me. I had three nights to film the magical scene in the forest. According to our guide, visitors are usually not allowed to photograph the fireflies because the presence of artificial light from electronics can affect their habits. As I started shooting, I adjusted my exposures constantly to account for the fading light. In order to get the composition that I wanted, I placed my tripod (三 脚 架 ) on a steep, rocky path and had to steady it during the long exposures. Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal, but the fireflies were very interested in the camera and, by extension, in me. I stood completely still while they were all over me—my arms, my hair, my face. From what I observed, peak firefly presence lasts for only about 20 minutes each night, so I had time for just a few tries. On the last night everything came together. The weather cooperated. I had improve my method for focusing and composing photos in the dark with quick flashes from a powerful flashlight — and I’d grown accustomed to insects on my face. I was rewarded with the image you see here. Each dot of light is one of several bursts that a firefly makes as it travels within a 30-second exposure. You can track the insect’s paths: Some make small circles, like those in the bottom center of the frame, while others move steadily in one direction or another. 24. How did the author feel about the editor’s request?A. Nervous. B. Delighted. C. Confused. D. Regretful. 25. What can best replace the underlined phrase “by extension” in Paragraph 2? A. Taking the situation further B. Increasing influence C. making something longer D. making something larger 26. What did the author intend to do during the first two nights? A. Learn about the local travel rules. B. Research the habit of the fireflies. C. Communicate constantly with the guides. D. Find the suitable spot and time to take photos. 27. What is the purpose of the text? A. To tell findings about fireflies. B. To share the story behind a photo. C. To record a travelling experience. D. To show the author’s working conditions. C Frozen 2 sees the return of Elsa and Anna. This time, the Queen of Arendelle and her sister are intended to save the kingdom. The film, adding different topics and making breakthroughs, has won greater popularity. One big change since the first movie is what the leading women are wearing. Elsa and Anna branch out by wearing tights, not just skirts. It’s rare to see Disney princesses in anything other than traditionally woman-style clothes. Director Jennifer Lee said the move represented contemporary attitudes. “Everyone sort of represents when the film was made and what the film’s trying to show,” she said, “And that’s right for these two women, who are carrying the weight of the kingdom. I love you can wear anything.” President of Walt Disney Animation Studios Clark Spencer thought it important to design what Elsa and Anna wear carefully. “This time, they don’t have to flee their kingdom in the wrong dress,” said Spencer. “They’re going on a big adventure. It’s going to be very physical. It makes the audience aware there is more than one way to be a princess.” Pants are just the beginning. Another noticeable topic is the role of the environment, which helps them on their adventure when it feels respected and hurts them when threatened. What the filmmakers really talked about is that the ecosystem is a big serious issue, according to Lee. “Climate change and nature out of balance might give Elsa the real purpose. Could that be why she has this power? That’s something most of us talk about. But a core(核心的)theme of the movie is the idea of not trying to force the environment into your world,” she said. Every character is connected to this idea of respecting the strength and changes of the environment and taking care of the world around you. 28. Why does the director change Elsa’s and Anna’s wear? A. To show the background of the movie. B. To increase the film’s popularity. C. To express the idea of dressing freedom. D. To reflect the trend of the times. 29. What might Clark Spencer think of the wear’s change? A. It’s a wrong choice.B. It makes sense. C. It’s a risky decision. D. It pleases the audience. 30. What is the movie intended to do by using the role of the environment? A. Shape a character who helps the leading roles. B. Indicate potential dangers of climate change. C. Explain the source of Elsa’s magical strength. D. Show the importance to respect nature’s power. 31. In which section of the website might the text appear? A. Entertainment. B. Life & Style. C. Environment. D. Fashion. D We’ve all heard the same warning: looking at your phone or another screen before bed is very bad for you. It may make it harder for you to fall asleep and prevent you from getting a good night’s rest. Most sleep doctors suggest turning off screens an hour before bedtime. The reality is that, for the majority of us, cellphones, tablets, or TVs are the last things we look at before we close our eyes. Our smartphones can sometimes feel like an extension of our bodies because we’re so physically connected to them. Screens in general have become such a prominent part of our lives that it can feel completely unrealistic to put them away earlier in the evening. But according to sleep doctors, it’s a smart idea to at least give it a try. At night, your brain starts to produce a hormone called melatonin(褪黑素)which keeps your circadian rhythm(生理节律)on track and helps you fall asleep, according to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health. “Being exposed to bright light suppresses(抑制) melatonin production,” says Philip Richard Gehrman, a behavioral sleep specialist and associate professor of clinical psychology in psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. “ Blue light has the strongest impact,” he adds, “and the types of LED lights used in most electronic devices are strongest in the blue part of the spectrum.” Why is blue light particularly bad? Dr. Gehrman explains that the very specialized cells in the eyes that fed into our sleep system and circadian rhythms, called retinal ganglion(视网膜神经节) cells, respond strongly to blue light in comparison to other types of light. “Beyond the light you’re exposing yourself to, there’s also the simple truth that it’s easy to get caught up in what you’re reading or watching, which leads to staying awake a lot later than you should,” says Shelby Harris, clinical psychologist in private practice in New York. “Even if you’ve got the self-control to switch off Netflix after a reasonable number of episodes, depending on what you just watched or read, you may be too mentally stimulated to fall asleep anyway.” 32. How does bright light “work” at night? A. It will help us fall asleep very quickly. B. It will make our brain produce a hormone. C. It will keep our circadian rhythms on track. D. It will affect the production of melatonin. 33. What is special about blue light? A. It has the longest effect on our sleep. B. It is mostly used in electronic devices. C. It causes the eye cells to react greatly. D. It is the strongest one among all the lights. 34. What can we learn from Shelby Harris’ words?A. Self-control will help us escape the influence of television. B. What we are reading and watching can help us sleep longer. C. Light is the most important factor affecting our sleep quality. D. What we watch or read before bedtime will influence our sleep quality. 35.Where is this text most likely from? A. A diary. B. A guidebook. C. A novel. D. And there’s nothing like watching a team come together for a big victory. A team sport includes any sport where individuals are organized into opposing teams which compete to win. Team members act together towards a shared objective. 37 One of them is to set goals and solve problems in a supportive atmosphere in order to accomplish their objectives. 38 Some types of team sports have different objectives or rules than “traditional” team sports. These types of team sports do not involve teammates facilitating (促使) the movement of a ball or a similar object according to a set of rules, in order to score points. For example, swimming, rowing, sailing, dragon boat racing, and track and field among others can also be considered team sports. In other types of team sports, there may not be an opposing team or points to score, for example, in mountaineering(登山运动). 39 Through the years, the popularity of team sports has continued to grow. 40 All over the world, the influence of team sports can be seen as professional athletes live out their dreams while serving as role models, youth athletes develop life skills and follow in the footsteps of their role models, and fans bond over the love of their teams while supporting their economies with their support. A. Many sports can be hard on the body. B. This can be done in a number of ways. C. In team sports, team members have to work together to win the game. D. One of the benefits of team sports is to help build many useful life skills. E. The meaning of a “team sport” has been questioned in recent years. F.
