This module is about health. In Unit 3 , Jiamin is not feeling well. Ben and Janet ask him how he feels and gives advice to him to get well again. Unit 4 is a passage about how Mr Li , who is 80 years old , stays healthy.

1、Presenting the dialogue
Have pupils look at the pictures on pages 26~27. If you use the e-Resource , show the two pages on the screen.
Talk about the picture on page 26 with pupils. Draw pupils’ attention to Jiamin.ask pupils to guess what the matter is with Jiamin. You ma y use:
What’s the matter with Jiamin?
He doesn’t look well
Ask pupils : what should we do if we do not feel well? Elicit , or present , go to see a doctor , and take some medicine.
Set a purpose for listening to the dialogue : Jiamin is not feeling well.
What happened ?
Did he go to see a doctor? Let’s listen and find out.
Play the recording all the way through ; follow by looking at the text in their book. If you use the e-Resource , play the dialogue video. The video will make the meaning of the dialogue clear to the pupils.
Play the recording again , pausing after each line for pupils to repeat and for you to clarify meaning. If you use the e-Resource ,click on each line. While doing this , highlight the target language items listed above. Use the picture and the context in the dialogue to convey the meaning , and provide further examples to illustrate each language structure if necessary.
Conduct reading aloud practice on the dialogue. Divide the class into 3 groups ; pupils will read the dialogue in the roles of Ben , Jiamin and Janet.
If you the e-Resource , you may use the Listen and repeat function for pupils to repeat. Later , use the Role play function for pupils to join the conversation in the roles of Ben , Jiamin and Janet.
2、Presenting the further vocabulary items
You may provide this leading to the further vocabulary items : Jiamin has a stomachache. Why ? maybe he ate some bad food. What should he do? He should see a doctor.
Then say each phrase again for pupils to repeat after you. If you use the e-Resource , show the page on the screen. Click on the captions for pupils to hear the phrases and to repeat.
For further practice , point to the pictures randomly for pupils to say the phrases aloud. If you use e-Resource ,after pupils have tried saying a phrase , click on it for pupils to check their pronunciation.
Have pupils produce a dialogue similar to the one between Ben, Jiamin and Janet , substituting the following words and phrases (in brackets)with the further vocabulary items from page 27:
Ben: Jiamin. You don’t look well. What’s the matter with you?
Jiamin: I fell ill. I have (a stomachache.) maybe I (ate some bad food).
Janet: I’m sorry to hear that. You should see a doctor.
Jiamin: I did. I went to the hospital this morning. I stayed there for two hours.
Ben: And what did the doctor say?
Jiamin:He gave me a check-up and asked me to (take this medicine three time a day for one work).
Janet: You should be careful , Jiamin. Your health is very important.
Ben: I think you’ll be well soon.
Jiamin: Thank you

In this task , pupils look for the vocabulary items related to health in the word puzzle that they have learnt, and circle them. Some of them appear horizontally; others vertically.
Have pupils look at Task 1 on page 28. If you use the e-Resource , show the task on the screen.
If necessary , revise the health vocabulary items with pupils.
Explain the task. Give pupils time to look for the words. With a less able class , you may give some of the words on the board for pupils to find in the puzzle. You may also tell them the total number of words to find.
Use an interaction format that suits your teaching the best. For example, pupils may try the word search individually or in pairs.
Extension: invite pupils to create a similar word puzzle for their classmates to try.

Tell pupils that they are going to hear a conversation between Ben and his mother.
Ask pupils to look through the 5 sentences in Task 2 page 28 , and guess what is going on.
Invite pupils to tell the class what they think the matter with Ben is.

Play the recording again , pausing after each sentence if necessary for pupils to write their answers (tick or cross).
When pupils have finished , check the answers with them.

In this task , pupils practise descrbing a person’s physical problem and he cause , and suggest what he/she should do about it.
Have pupils look at Task 3 on page 29. Ask pupils to look through the 6 pictures to see what they have in common. Guide pupils to see that each picture is about someone having a physical problem.
Go through the example dialogue with pupils.
If necessary , revise the related vocabulary with pupils.
You may begin this task as a teacher-led activity. When pupils are familiar with what to do , have them continue the activity as apirwork.

Have pupils look at Task 4 on page 29. If you use the e-Resource , show the task on the screen.
Talk about the first three pictures with pupils, e.g.
What animals can you see in the pictures?
What is the little bear doing in the first picture?

Play the recording , er read the rhyme to the pupils , line by line , to check understanding and have pupils repeat the key words after you.

You may provide this lead-in activity. Write the following 2 sentences from the presentation dialogue on page 26 on the board:
I went to the hospital this morning. I stayed there___two hours.
The doctor asked me to take the medicine three times a day __one week.
Ask pupils what kind of word for is.(preposition)
Tell pupils that prepositions are ofen put before a time phrase , such as two hours and one week.
Invite pupils to tell you the other prepositions they know.
Have pupils look at Word family Part 1 on page 30. Ask pupils to look at the blue words.
Alternatively , put the sentences on the board , with the prepositions left out. Pupils then try filling in the blanks with the correct preposition. When they have finished , they look at Part 1 on page 30 to check their answers.

Go through the sentences in Part 1 with pupils . guiding pupils to deduce the pattern for using each preposition(e.g.use in before a year ; use on before a day in the week).
Explain the task in Part 2.
Allow pupils to refer back to the example sentences in Part 1 while they are filling in the blanks.

Can you use a ball? Where is it ?
(and so on）
Explain the task. Give pupils time to fill in the blanks in the passage.
Then they have finished , check the answers with them.

Set a purpose for reading the passage : the man is 80 yeats old , but he looks only 60. What does he do to stay healthy? Let’s read and find out.
Have pupils read the passage silently all the way through. You may invite pupils to have a first attempt at answering the vomprehension questions.
When pupils have finished reading the passage silently (and attemted the comrehension questions), play the recording , or the e-Resource , for pupils to listen to the passage. Pause the recording at suitable points to clarify meaning and highligh the target language items.
Have pupils answer the comprehension questions , or look at their answers again if they have had a first attempt already.
Check the answers with pupils.
If you use the e-Resource , have pupils record their reading aloud using the Listen and repeat function.
Discuss with pupils the most important thing for a healthy life.

You may start the task as a teacher-guided activity , with the teacher asking questions to elict the expected answers. Later , say one of the 4 names in the pictures and pupils talk about that person.

In this task , pupils choose proverbs from a given list that they like. They then explain the meanings of their chosen proverbs on a poster.
Have pupil look at task 4 on page 35. If you use the e-Resource , show the task on the screen.
Explain the task to pupils.
To arouse interest , you may begin by groping the sentences into:
A. Proverbs about eating
B. Proverbs about exercise
C. Proverbs about rest
D. Proverbs about habits of lifestyle
The whole project may be done individually or in groups.
When pupil have finished , invite them to present their posters orally to the whole class.

In the story , Ben is hurt and needs to be taken to the hospital. While the doctor is questioning Ben , Aki tries to interrupt. The doctor sees him and wonders why he looks so blue.
Have pupil look at the pictures on page 36. If you use the e-Resource , show the page on the screen.
Go through the first picture with pupil. Talk about the picture with pupils.
Set a purpose for the reading : Ben is hurt , and they’re taking him to the hospital. Is it serious? What will happen in the hospital?
Play the recording. Pupils follow by looking at the text in their book.
Play the recording again , pausing after every picture to check understanding or clarify meaning.
Play the recording all the way through again for pupils to and read the whole story one more time.
If you sue the e-Resource play the story video for pupil to view the story. You may use the Listen and repeat function for pupils to practise reading the sentences correctly. You may also use the Role play function for pupils to join the dialogue in different roles.
You may discuss the last picture with pupils . why does the doctor ask Aki the question?
Have pupils act out the story in groups.
