Period 8 Project: Making a list of pros and cons
I. Teaching aims:
1. Enable students to discuss the disadvantages of mobile phone use
2. Provide students opportunities to make a list of pros and cons and know how to support the statements.
3. Make sure students could grasp the skills to make a list of pros and cons on other electronic devices.

Enable students to write an article on the advantages and disadvantages of some electronic devices.
IV. Procedures:
Step 1 lead-in:
Ask students three questions to evoke the topic of the class:
1. How many of you have a mobile phone?
2.Why do you use mobile phones?
3. Can you list some functions of mobile phones?
Presents some functions of mobile phone, such as making a phone call, taking photos, listening to music, Surfing the Internet, and sending short messages
Step 2 Reading comprehension
(1) general reading
Now let’s read a newspaper article about the possible negative effects of mobile phone use on people’s health
Remind students of reading strategy : how to read a newspaper article
In a newspaper article, both title and first paragraph are attractive of eye-catching, which will tell you some information.
Read the title and the first paragraph carefully and predict what’s the author’s
attitude towards mobile phone use.
