一、 教学对象分析
本节课教学对象是高二的学生。他们阅读过的英语文章不少,已经具备基本的英语词汇量,语法知识和阅读技巧,具有一定的阅读理解能力。
二、教材内容分析
本课以“An exciting job” 为话题,旨在通过教学使学生了解火山爆发的自然现象,认识到自然的伟大力量,并会用所学词汇描述在经历自然灾害时的感受。 通过对文章“exciting”的分析,让学生了解火山学家的工作,及其态度,让学生对自己理想的工作有进一步的憧憬。
三、教学目标、重难点

By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. grasp the words and phrases: volcano, volcanology, volcanologist, erupt, adventure, bored, excite, evaluate, unfortunately, eruption, fountain, absolutely, fantastic, potential, impressive.
2. learn about the powerful natural force — volcano and the work of an volcanologist.

Help the students know the work of a volcanologist, and retell the first experience of the volcano eruption.

四、教学步骤
Step 1 Lead-in
T: At first let's come to our daily news. Please go through the news and tell me what it is about.
S: Volcano.
T: Have you ever seen the volcano?
S: No.
T: Maybe we have seen the volcano on TV or in the newspaper. Do you think the volcano eruption is dangerous?
S: Yes!
T: I would like to share a video with you. Please use some adjectives to describe the video.
T: There is a kind of person who does research on volcanology and can protect people from the volcano. Do you know what he is?
S: Volcanologist.
T: Read the words after me!

(设计意图:高中英语新课标要求培养学生听说读写的综合能力。每天课前简短的新闻呈现,让学生身处英语环境中,身边就是英语。本课的新闻导出关键词volcano。视频让学生通过看和听了解火山爆发的景象,能够运用所学词汇形容所看到的情景,并导出与火山有关的词汇: volcano eruption, volanology, volcanologist,扫清与火山相关的词汇障碍。并带读这几个词汇,调动了班级气氛,加深学生对词汇的印象。)
Step 2 Reading
(1) 教师让学生阅读课文,找出火山学家的工作。
T: Please turn to Page34 and find out the answer to the question:What does a volcanologist do?
(2) 通过了解火山学家工作内容,让学生讨论找出表明作者认为工作是令人兴奋的词。
T:Can you find some words which suggest the job is exciting? Please discuss in pairs.
(设计意图:这部分设置两道题目,紧扣标题"an exciting job", 先让学生了解火山学家的工作是什么,其次找出可以表明“兴奋的”词语,训练学生在阅读过程中,扑捉信息的能力,并了解文章的内容。这部分的教学过程,采取个别提问和小组讨论的方式,让学生进行有目的的阅读活动。)
(3) 重点阅读课文第三自然段,即作者第一次看火山爆发的情景,引导学生找出火山爆时的几个特征。完成下列图表。并复述。
T:The most exciting part in his job is to watch the volcano eruption. Please read the third paragraph and fill in the blanks. I will ask some students to come to the blackboard to fill in the blanks.
T: Can you retell the first experience according to the key words?
(设计意图:在英语教学中创设新的英语环境,运用图表的格式,以新的形式,重新组织语言,通过让学生找出key words,用自己的语言重新组织火山爆发的场景,可以让学生更透彻理解文章这部分内容,也培养了学生综合语言运用能力。)

Step 3 Post- reading
(1) 结合前面的教学,引导学生思考并小组讨论,成为一名火山学家所要具备的品质和技能。
T:To be a volcanologist, what qualities and skills should be needed? Please have a discussion.
(2) 对所学的话题进行升华,引导学生对理想的工作的思考,通过表演的形式呈现。其中一名同学作为记者进行采访。
T: What do you think an exciting job is? Please discuss in pairs. You can include the four questions:
1. What is the job?
2. Why?
3. What qualities and skills are needed?
4. What will you do to achieve the dream?
You can also use the adjectives on the blackboard.
(设计意图:“自主,合作,探究”是新课标高中英语提倡的学习方式。通过小组讨论,小组合作的方式,提高学生的情感态度和价值观,让学生进一步理解“an exciting job”,探讨自己所向往的职业。在语言运用方面,可以通过所学的知识,表述自己所喜欢的职业。)
Step 4 Homework
Write a short passage “My favourite job”.
T:After class , I hope you can finish the short passage “ My favourite job”. You must conclude the questions, and use the words we have learned.
(设计意图:家庭作业是教学工作的有机组成部分。这种作业从根本上是用独立作业的方法来巩固学生的知识,并使学生的技能和熟练技巧完善化的使命。布置学生写一篇关于喜爱的工作的作文,要求学生运用课上所用的词汇和句型,不仅训练让学生复习并整理了课堂上的内容,更能够培养学生的书面表达能力,使所学知识能够得以巩固和运用。)

教学反思
本节课是阅读课,从题目入手来分析课文。以“基础知识—知识拓展——知识升华”这条线来设置学习任务。通过了解火山学家的工作,以及态度,让学生对自己理想的工作有更好的认识。整堂课以个别提问,小组活动,学生表演等方式激发学生的思维,让学生较好地参与到课堂中来,体现了学生的主体性。充分培养了学生的英语的听、说、读、写的综合能力。教学设计环环相扣,互为铺垫,自然生成。
另外,作业布置是让学生根据本堂课的学习,让学生先了解从事一项工作所具备的品质和技能,结合自己的努力方向,写一篇关于最喜欢的工作的文章,给学生充分的想象空间,鼓励学生发散性思维。
