Do you have cold feet in winter? But now if you wear a pair of Ugg boots, you won’t be troubled by that.
UGG means Australian Sheepskin Boots. UGG boots became popular among shearers(剪羊毛的人)in the 1920s. The shearers sheared the sheep and grabbed a bit of dead sheep, wrapped it around their feet and called them “Ugly Boots”. Good old Australian slang shortened Shearers Ugly Boots to UGG boots. Thus UGG Boots date back as far as the 1920s in Australia.
Ugg boots became so popular because of the amazing amount of comfort they bring to the feel. The sheepskin is made incredibly soft so the boots are warm and comfortable. Ugg boots fed more like socks than shoes, yet they are tough enough for outdoor wear. The unique, wool fool-beds lake the shape of the natural edge of each wearer’s feet, creating personalized arch (弓形) supports.
Our ugg boots are handmade with Australian sheepskin of the highest quality by our factory of Ugg Original Pty Ltd.
We can also wear ugg boots in cold weather or summer. In cold weather, the thick wool of ugg boots provides a preventing layer of warmth by trapping your body heat. In the heat of summer, the natural fibres of the wool will actually cool your feet by absorbing sweat. Ugg boots are made to be worn barefoot to

I serve as an educator and health care provider as well, therefore, I have worked with numerous children infected with the virus that causes AIDS. The relationships that I have had with these special kids have been gifts in my life. They have taught me so many things, but I have especially learned that great courage can be found in the smallest of packages. Let me tell you about Tyler.
Tyler was born infected with HIV: his mother was also infected. From the very beginning of his life, he was dependent on medications to enable him to survive. When he was five, he had a tube surgically inserted in a vein in his chest. This tube was connected to a pump, which he carried in a small backpack on his back. Medications were hooked up to this pump and were continuously supplied through this tube to his bloodstream. At times, he also needed supplemented oxygen to support his breathing.
Tyler wasn’t willing to give up one single moment of his childhood to this deadly disease. It was not unusual to find him playing and racing around his backyard, wearing his medicine-laden backpack and dragging his tank of oxygen behind him in his little wagon. All of us who knew Tyler marveled at his pure joy in being alive and the energy it gave him.Tyler’s mom often teased him by telling him that he moved so fast that she needed to dress him in red. That way, when she peered through the window to check on him playing in the yard, she could quickly spot him.
This dreaded disease eventually wore down even the likes of a little dynamo (精力充沛的人) like Tyler. He grew quite ill and, unfortunately, so did his HIV-infected mother. When it became apparent that he wasn’t going to survive, Tyler’s mom talked to him about death. She comforted him by telling Tyler that she

“Sugar, alcohol and tobacco,” economist Adam Smith once wrote, “are commodities which are nowhere necessaries of life, which have become objects of almost universal consumption, and which are, therefore, extremely popular subjects of taxation.”
Two and a half centuries on, most countries impose (征税) sort of tax on alcohol and tobacco. With obesity levels putting increasing pressure on public health systems, governments around the world have begun to toy with the idea of taxing sugar as well.
Whether such taxes work is a matter of debate. A preliminary review of Mexico’s taxation found a fall in purchases of taxed drinks as well as a rise in sales of untaxed and healthier drinks. By contrast, a Danish tax on foods high in fats was abandoned a year after its introduction, during claims that consumers were avoiding it by crossing the border to Germany to satisfy their desire for cheaper, fattier foods.
The food industry has, in general, been firmly opposed to such direct government action. Nonetheless,

the renewed focus on waistlines means that industry groups are under pressure to demonstrate their products are healthy as well as tasty.
Over the past three decades, the industry has made some efforts to improve the quality of its offerings. For example, some drink manufactures have cut the amount of sugar in their beverages (饮料).
Many of the reductions over the past 30 years have been achieved either by reducing the amount of sugar, salt or fat in a product, or by finding an alternative ingredient. More recently, however, some companies have been investing money in a more ambitious undertaking: learning how to adjust the fundamental make-up of the food they sell. For example, having salt on the outside, but none on the inside, reduces the salt content without changing the taste.
While reformulating (再制定) recipes is one way to improve public health, it should be part of a multisided (多边的) approach. The key is to remember that there is not just one solution. To deal with obesity, a mixture of approaches, which include reformulation, taxation and adjusting portion sizes, will be needed. There is no silver bullet.
28. What do we learn about Danish taxation on fat-rich foods?
A. It met with firm opposition from the food industry.
B. It brought a lot of problems on the border.
C. It could not succeed without German cooperation.
D. It did not work out as well as was expected.
29. What does the underlined part “silver bullet” in the last paragraph mean?
A. A long way.
B. A single easy quick way.
C. A effective and hopeful solution.
D. A successful but complex solution.
30. What’s the author’s attitude to a multisided approach to the problem?
A. Indifferent B. Disapproving
C. Neutral D. Positive

reduce poverty, according to some of the world’s leading international and development groups.
In a report published today, Oxfam, Greenpeace and other groups say rich governments must immediately address climate change to avoid even “unbearable levels” of worldwide poverty.
“Food production, water supplies, public health and people’s livelihoods are already being damaged and weakened,” the report says. “There is no approach possible. The world must meet its commitments to achieve poverty reduction and also deal with climate change, which are closely linked.”
The report, which draws on UN predictions of the effects of climate change in poor countries over the next 50 years, says poor countries will experience more flooding, declining food production, more disease and the extinction of entire eco-systems on which many of the world’s poorest people depend.
“Climate change needs to be addressed now. The poor will bear the great consequence of it. The frontline experience of many of us working in international development indicates that communities are having to fight more extreme weather conditions.”
Climate change will cause great damage to agriculture and water supplies and will increase diseases. “By 2025 the number of the world’s population living in countries of significant water stress will almost double, to 6 billion people. Tropical (热带的) and sub-tropical areas will be hardest hit — those countries already suffering from food shortage”.
Poor countries mostly do not need hi-tech solutions, but would most benefit from education, research and being shown how to farm better. The report says unchecked global warming, more than wars or political upheaval (政变), will displace millions of people and unsettle many countries.
32. Which of the following is NOT related to global warming according to the passage?
A. Fitness B. Food production C. Water supplies D. Farming
33.What does the underlined word “address” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A. settle B. speak C. occupy D. write an address
34.Where may the passage be taken from?
A. A diary B. A novel C. A magazine D. A news report
35. Which of the following is the main topic discussed in the passage?

As it is well known, traffic accidents have been a heated topic because the number of traffic accidents are increasing. The main reason is driving before drinking. Therefore, running the red light and drag-racing in cities are the causes. As the result, more and more traffic accidents had happened.

Dear friends,
In recent years, with the popularity of digital devices, students pay little attention to their handwriting. As a result, their handwriting is not so good as it was in the past. In order to protect our Chinese characters and write both nicely and neatly, we’d like to offer some suggestions.
Firstly, spend less time online so that we can have more time to read and take notes. Moreover, we’d better form the habit of practicing handwriting and keeping diaries every day. Besides, it is better to write to our relatives and friends rather than send e-mails. As the saying goes, “The style is the man.” Beautiful and neat handwriting is beneficial to us students. So please attach great importance to our handwriting in future.
Let’s take action now!
