第三部分 阅读理解 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后所给各题的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。
A
In 1990,22-year-old Christopher McCandless gave up his career plans, left behind everyone
he knew, donated all his savings to charity, and went off on an adventure, hiking his way through
America to Alaska.
Of course, this is an unusual story. Most college graduates would not do so.However, studies
show that in teenage years, people are more likely to try out new experiences. For example, instead of working his way up the same organisation like his grandfather did,a 15-year-old may dream about becoming a traveller一only to find in his early 20s that this attraction of new places is fading and change is less attractive.
The reason why people become less keen to change as they get older maybe that people
19
generally have similar life patterns and demands. Most people aim to find a job and a partner. As
they get older, they may have young children and elderly family members to look after. These
responsibilities cannot be achieved without some degree of steadiness, which means that new
experiences and ideas may not have a place in the person’s life.New experiences may bring
excitement as well as insecurity, and so most people prefer to stay with the familiar.
However, not every individual is the same. A child may want to play a different game every
day and get fed up if nothing changes at the kindergarten.Another may play with the same children and toys on every visit. Young children who avoid new experiences will grow up to be more traditional than others. Psychologist(心理学家)argue that those who have more open personalities as children are more open than others might be when they are older and that young men have a greater interest in novelty than women, although as they age, this desire for new experiences fades
more quickly than it does in women.
56.The first paragraph serves as a(n) .
A . explanation B.introduction C.comment D. background
57.What does the author think is the key factor that prevents people trying out new experiences?
A. Responsibility. B. Partner. C. Age. D. Education.

59.According to the passage,we can infer that

C .women are more likely to try new things than men of the same age
D,a child who likes different games may not like to change after growing up

The room in which the boys were fed was a large stone
hall, with a large pot at one end. The master, helped by two
women, served the soup from this pot at meal times. Each
boy was allowed one bowl of soup and no more. The bowls
never needed washing,as the boys cleaned them with
19
their
spoons, trying to eat every bit of soup. Boys usually have
excellent appetites.Oliver Twist and his companions slowly starved for three months until finally,
they became quite wild with hunger.
There was one boy who was tall for his age and had a wild, hungry look in his eye.IIe told his friends he had to have another bowl of soup each day.If not,he was afraid that one night he might eat the small young boy sleeping next to him. The boys had a meeting and decided that one of them should ask for more food after supper that evening. They wrote their names on pieces of paper and picked one out. It was Oliver Twist who was chosen.
In the evening, the boys sat down at the tables. The master stood by the pot,and the soup was
served. It disappeared quickly. The boys whispered and made signs to Oliver. He stood up from the table and went to the master, with his bowl and spoon in his hands.“Please, sir,”he said,“I want some more.”The master was a fat, healthy man,but he went very pale.
“What?”said the master at last in a quiet voice.
“Please,sir,”repeated Oliver,“I want some more.”
The master hit Oliver with his spoon, then seized him and cried for help. Mr Bumble rushed
into the room, and the master told him what Oliver had said.“He asked for more?”Mr Bumble
cried.“I cannot believe it. One day they will hang the boy.”He took Oliver away and shut him in
a dark room. The next morning a notice appeared on the workhouse gate.Five pounds were offered to anybody who would take Oliver Twist.

A 17-year-old boy, caught sending text messages in class, was recently sent to the vice principal's office at Millwood High School in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The vice principal, Steve Gallagher, told the boy he needed to focus on the teacher, not his cellphone. The boy listened politely and nodded, and that's when Mr. Gallagher noticed the student's fingers moving on his lap. He was texting while being scolded for texting. “It was a subconscious act,” says Mr. Gallagher, who took the phone away. “Young people today are connected socially from the moment they open their eyes in the morning until they close their eyes at night. It's compulsive.”
A study this year by psychology students at Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Ga., found that the more time young people spend on Facebook, the more likely they are to have lower grades and weaker study habits. Heavy Facebook users show signs of being more sociable, but they are also more likely to be anxious, hostile or depressed. (Doctors, meanwhile, are now blaming addictions to 'night texting' for disturbing the sleep patterns of teens.)
Almost a quarter of today's teens check Facebook more than 10 times a day, according to a 2009 survey by Common Sense Media, a nonprofit group that monitors media's impact on families. Will these young people get rid of this habit once they enter the work force, or will employers come to see texting and 'social-network checking' as accepted parts of the workday?
Think back. When today's older workers were in their 20s, they might have taken a break on the job to call friends and make after-work plans. In those earlier eras, companies discouraged non-business-related calls, and someone who made personal calls all day risked being fired. It was impossible to imagine the constant back-and-forth texting that defines interactions among young people today.
Educators are also being asked by parents, students and educational strategists to reconsider their rules. “In past generations, students got in trouble for passing notes in class. Now students are adept at texting with their phones still in their pockets,” says 40-year-old Mr. Gallagher, the vice principal, “and they're able to communicate with someone one floor down and three rows over. Students are just fundamentally different today. They will take suspensions rather than give up their phones.”
64. The underlined word “a subconscious act” refers to an act __________.
A. on purpose B. without realization C. in secret D. with care
65. Young people addicted to the use of Facebook _________.
A. are good at dealing with the social relationships and concentrate on their study
B. have high spirits and positive attitudes towards their life and work
C. have been influenced mentally in the aspects of behaviors and habits
D. are always in bad mood and have poor performance in every respect
66. Mr. Gallagher reminds us that the students in the past and those today _________.
A. like to break rules and have the same means of sending messages
B. are always the big problem for the educators and their parents
C. like sending text messages but those today do it in a more secret and skillful way
D. cannot live without a cellphone
19
67. What’s the best title of the passage?
A. Teenagers and Cellphones B. Teenagers’ Texting Addiction
C. Employers and Teenagers D. Teenagers’ Education

Should parents ever hit their children?
Research suggests many of us are likely to respond “no”, and public support for spanking(打屁股) has been falling over the years. But surveys also show that 75 percent to nearly 90 percent of parents admit to spanking their child at least once.
I was raised in a zero-tolerance home for disrespect, and my parents often turned to physical punishment. And, no, I don' t feel I was damaged by it.
Nothing is more annoying than watching ill-mannered behavior from children.
But there is data to suggest that a return to old-school spanking isn't the answer.
Two years ago, Newsweek reported that it had found data suggesting that teens whose parents used physical punishment were more likely to become aggressive.
Murray Straus, professor at the University of New Hampshire in America, has studied the topic of children and spanking for decades. He said that children who were physically punished have lower IQs than their peers. It may be that children with lower IQs were more likely to get spanked, but the punishment may have been counterproductive(反作用的)to their mental development, as well.
Some researchers make the argument that occasional open-handed smacks(用巴掌打)on the bottom are not only harmless but can have some benefit.
Last year, Marjorie Gunnoe, a psychologist at Calvin College, studied teens who have never spanked. There are a greater number of children growing up without ever having been physically punished.Gunnoe’s research suggests they don' t turn out any better than those who were sometimes spank.
There are some parents who simply cannot control their tempers(脾气).But I still believe that the best parents are the ones who are able to offer fair and firm discipline without ever turning to physical punishment.
68.According to the first three paragraphs, the author was probably hit by her parents when .
A.they were dissatisfied with her grade
B.she showed no respect for the elder
C.they cannot control their temper
D.their discipline turns out to be not strict enough
69.According to Murray Straus, children who are physically punished____ _.
A.are less aggressive toward others when they get older
B.have slower physical development
19
C.benefit from occasional spanking
D.may develop lower IQs than their peer
70.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the article?
A.40 percent of children grow up without ever being spanked
B.Children who suffer less physical punishment are better students
C.Occasional open-handed spanking on the bottom are mentally harmful
D.Researchers disagree over whether smacking is mentally harmful to children
71.The author seems to agree that _ _____.
A.parents should determine whether a child needs to be smacked or not
B.children who have been spanked tend to behave better than those who haven't
C.good parents discipline their children in a fair and reasonable way
D.physical punishment should be the last resort(手段) of any parent

In Greek mythology (神话) , fire is a gift from the God, stolen from Zeus(宙斯)by Prometheus and handed over to human suffering from cold. What could be more natural than sitting around a beautiful fire on a winter night, at a campsite in the Berkshires?
Hard as it may be to believe, the fireplace—long considered a trophy (奖杯) , particularly in a city like New York —is acquiring a social shame.Among those who desire to be environmentally responsible , it is joining the ranks of bottled water and big houses.
Sally Treadwell, a 51-year-old public relations
executive in Boone, N.C., said nothing makes her
happier than building a fire on a cold winter night.
But most of the time she doesn’t, because she feels
too guilty about the damage it may do to the
environment. Every time she builds a fire, it
causes “inner conflict,” she said. “It’s a guilty
pleasure.” “The smoke from a fire smells very nice,” said
Diane Baileym a senior scientist with the Natural Resources Defense Council in San Francisco. “But it can cause a lot of harm.”
The tiny particles (颗粒) can cause illness, and can cross into the bloodstream, causing heart attacks as well as worsening other conditions.
Growing concerns about the air pollution and health problems caused by smoke from wood fires are urging a number of areas across the country to pass laws regulating them.Idaho offers a tax cut to people who replace uncertified(不合格) wood stoves with “greene” ones; San Joaquin County in California for-bids selling a home unless its wood stove is replaced with an E.P.A.-certified one; and Palo Alto and other governments in California forbid wood-burning fireplaces in new construction.
19
Certainly, many think otherwise. In any case, most fireplaces are used far too infrequently to cause any real damage to the environment, said Stephen Sears, the vice president of the Brick Industry Association , voicing an opinion shared by some.
Perhaps not coincidentally, sales of wood-burning equipment dropped to 235,000 in 2009 from 800,000 in 1999, according to the Brick Industry Association. It also reports that approximately 35,000 fireplaces were installed in the United States in 2009, compared to 80,000 in 2005.Certainly those numbers reflect the economic slowdown, but they may also be affected by growing mixed feelings to wood fires.
72.We can infer from the 2nd paragraph that ____.
A.a fireplace is viewed as a sign of success
B.bottled water is a good companion for a fireplace
C.big houses are not considered environment-friendly
D.people in New York are laughed at for their tradition
73.Sally’s “inner conflict” in 3rd paragraph resulted from ____.
A.her mixed emotion for the fireplace
B.the damage to the environment
C.the concern about her health
D.her love for the fireplace
74.In terms of the regulations about wood fire we can learn from the passage that .
A.uncertified fireplaces are forbidden in Edaho.
B.only energy-efficient wood stove can be used in U.S.A.
C.some people are against the wood-fire controlling regulations
D.all the people support measures taken to control the use of fireplaces
75.What is the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To urge people to burn less wood.
B.To discuss wood-burning’s impact.
C.To indicate the cooling love for the fireplace.
D.To throw light on the causes of the fireplace’s decline.

第四节 书面表达 (满分25分)
One possible version
Dear classmates,
I am glad to share with you my ideas about how to be a good student.
From my point of view, a good student should be mentally and physically healthy.
First of all, I should be kind, not only to my family, but also to all the people I meet. To be kind alone is not enough. As a student, I ought to focus on my learning—my first important task. I will do my best to be an independent and cooperative learner.
In the meantime, to live happily every day is equally important. Enjoying life to the fullest will benefit me greatly. Being happy will do a lot of good to me and those around me. Besides, it’s quite necessary for me to take an active part in various outdoor activities to build up my body.
Let’s spare no effort to perfect ourselves and get ready for our future life.
That’s all. Thank you!
听力原文
Text 1)
W: Sam met Jane seven years ago when he was 22 years old.
M: Jane was only two years younger than Sam, but she seemed
much younger.
(Text 2)
M: I'm going to play football tomorrow.
W: Should you be playing right away afte(r you got over that leg
injury?
(Text 3)
M: Well. I haven't seen you since our graduation. How are
things going with you?
W: Not bad. I'm my own boss now.
(Text 4)
W: Do you want your son to be a dancer?
M: Not really. I expect him to manage my store when I retire.
(Text 5)
W: I can't believe the Christmas holidays are almost over. They
went by so fast.
M: You said it. I have the same feeling.
(Text 6)
M: Excuse me. I'm looking for Park Street.
19
W: Park Street? It isn't far from here. Just keep walking up this
street. Turn left at the first corner, go straight ahead and
turn left again and in front of you is the Park Street.
M: Thank you. I'm looking for a bank.
W: There are lots of banks on Park Street. Do you want to
change your money?
M: Yes. Which bank do you suggest?
W: You could try the New City Bank. It's next to the big
church.
M: And is there a post office near here?
W: Yes. See that big new shopping center? There is one on the
first floor.
M: Oh, thank you very much.
W: You are welcome.
(Text 7)
W: Look. Jack! That man fell off the ladder. Come and help!
He must be injured.
M: He's not moving. Shall we take him to the hospital?
W: We mustn't move him. Leave him where he is.
M: We must get help. I'll go to that phone box and call the First
Aid Center.
W: Right. I'll stay here with him.
M: How is he now?
W: He's still not moving, but he's breathing. His head must be
hurt.
M: The First Aid Center says they are coming soon.
W: Let's wait until help comes. Look, there they come!
(Text 8)
W: How have your two sons been doing at school lately, Andy?
M: Terrible! James never starts learning, and Malcolm never
stops learning.
W: You're joking, of course. I hear that Malcolm is likely to
win all the prizes in the exams this year.
M: Yes, so his teachers say. He has always been working very
hard. He wants to go to Oxford University next year.
M: Maybe. But I think he studies too hard. I sometimes wish
he'd go out and enjoy himself for a change.
W. Yes. What about the younger one?
M: Well, Jame's teachers say that he is clever, but he hardly
does his best. In other words, he's not bad when he makes
an effort, but he's too lazy. He does his homework in ten
minutes every evening and then rushes out to play tennis.
W: He's crazy about tennis, isn't he? Perhaps he can make his
fortune at it. You can make more money from sport than
other jobs these days.
M: So I believe. But my wife always worries about the
children's future. She wants James to give up tennis and
study law.
(Text 9)
M: Jane, I hear that you are leaving school now. What do you
want to do? Have you made up your mind yet?
W: No, not yet. But I think I'm going to take up singing.
19
M: Any special reasons?
W: Yes. It's because I am good at singing songs. All my
classmates say so. Besides, singing is quite interesting, and
you will meet a lot of audience.
M: And you will have to please them too.
W: Well, you do it in any job, don't you?
M: And what do your parents think about it?
W: They don't quite agree to my idea. That's the only trouble.
M: Yes. Urn... my parents try to send me to an art college
because they want me to be an actor.
W: Then what will you do?
M: Well... I haven't decided yet. But I usually get my own way
in the end.
(Text 10)
Rainforests are important places for people and animals.
There are different kinds of rainforests. Some are high in
the mountains and others are near the sea. In the last forty
years, humans have destroyed half of the earth's rainforests.
Rainforests are home to about fifty million people. There
are also millions of animals, plants and insects that live there.
When we destroy the rainforests, people will lose their
homes and thousands of species of animals and plants will
disappear. Once these animals and plants disappear, we will
never see them again.
The weather in the rainforest is hot all year round. The
weather is always wet, too.
The Amazon rainforest is about a hundred million years old,
and has more species of animals and plants than any other
place on earth. People have now cut down much of this
rainforest to plant coffee and sugar.
