What will the house of the future look like? Could it have gardens on its walls,or a pool with fish for dinner? Architects (建筑师) believe that they are all possibilities. The only thing for sure is that the houses will be as green as possible.
The tree house[
Many architects in the world would like to build a “tree house”.Like a leaf, the surface of the house collects sunlight during the day. The energy can be used to heat water, produce electricity, and even create fresh air for the home. The “root” (根) of the house is deep under the ground. It uses the soil (土壤) to the home’s temperature.
The lizard house
Like a lizard (蜥蜴),changing color with the weather is the most important design of a lizard house. When it’s in the bright sun,the cover of the house will turn dark to protect it from strong heat. During dark days,it turns white and takes in as much light and heat as possible to produce energy.
Meals at home
This design is perhaps as much about the future of food production as architecture (建筑风格). It has gardens on the outside wall of the house. People can plant tomatoes, carrots and green tea on them. So every day in the morning, you just need to walk outside and collect your meals.
Learning from the past
Looking to the future isn’t the only way to be green. Sometimes, ancient techniques (古老的技术) can also help cut down energy use. For example,a chimney (烟囱) can be a useful airconditioner because it is easier for hot air to flow out at the chimney.

When I was seven years old, my family made me an ant farm(蚂蚁窝). First, we put clean sand in a thin glass box. Then we waited for the ants to arrive.
After the ants were in the glass farm, they started to make tunnels (地道). I was amazed that each one knew exactly what to do. Each had its own job.
On the fifth day something terrible happened. I put my face so close to the glass farm that I knocked it over. All the tunnels fell down. Although(虽然) the ants kept alive after their earthquake, one by one they began to die. I was frightened as I watched them give up building their tunnels to carry the bodies to a corner (角落)of the farm.
My mother said that the ants were dying of sadness. They simply could not stand(忍受) that their tunnels were gone.
Although much time has passed, I still think of that ant farm. Mom had hoped it would teach me about the natural world, but it taught me much more.
Over the years, I came to realize the importance of teamwork. Working together, the ants were able to make an amazing world for themselves. I also learned that they should be admired (钦佩) for their hard work.
But there was an even larger lesson that I did not realize until recently: Adversity (逆境) is a natural part of life, and must be accepted. Unlike the ants, we cannot give up when we are sad. We have to realize that if a tunnel is gone, we must build another.
Giving up is not a good choice.

Two years ago my husband bought me a bicycle. If you live in a town, it is often faster than a car and you don’t have to worry about parking. You can leave it in any place you like. As it has a seat at the back and a basket at the front, I can take my little daughter to school and the library, and I can go shopping to any place in fact. I use it most in summer when the weather is warm and dry. It can be very unpleasant in winter because the weather is cold and rainy. My husband uses my bicycle sometimes for a visit to his friend. He is not good at riding a bicycle, but he says it is better than waiting for a bus. He still likes his car best. I think all day sitting down in a car is making him fatter and fatter. On my bicycle I get a lot of exercise and fresh air, and riding makes me feel a lot younger.

Dear Mr. Wu,
14
We have discussed whether Jim or Jane should be a Virtue Teenager. Different groups have different recommendations.
Group A of the class strongly recommend Jim. Because Jim has good manners and behaves politely. For example , he always queues for his turn./ He says “please” or “thank you all the time. He is willing to work as a volunteer. He takes an active part in charity activities.Last week, he sent his clothes to children in poor areas.
However, Group B think Jane is better. She is hard-working and helpful /She is always ready to help others. She often helps the others with lessons .She has won high praise from the teachers. /She is often praised by teachers. She does a lot to help protect the environment and save energy .She always remembers to turn off the lights when she leaves a room. /She always takes shorter showers to save water.
In my opinion, I recommend Jane ( as a Virtue Teenager). As we all know, a Virtue Teenager must have many virtues and be ready to devote his /her time to people in trouble. And Jane has the quality. For example, she is willing to do extra work for the class in her spare time.
I hope my email will be of some value to you.
Yours sincerely,
Li Ping
