David and Goliath B ‎ A credit card that won’t work unless its owner’s voice is heard may become an important weapon in the fight against economic fraud(欺诈).‎ ‎ The card using a built-in voice-recognition chip requires users to give a spoken password that it recognizes. The idea is to prevent thieves from using a stolen card to buy goods online. ‎ ‎ A model built by engineers in California packs a microphone, a loudspeaker, a battery and a voice-recognition chip into a standard-sized credit card. The card is the length and width of an ordinary credit card but about three times as thick. The company now plans to make it thinner. ‎ The voice card is based on an earlier Beep card technology designed to prevent fraud in online deals. The Beep card has no microphone, but has a built-in loudspeaker to utter an audible (听得见的) ID signal by a computer’s microphone to an online server(服务器). By confirming that signal matches the information in the card, the server can make sure that the user is not simply keying in a credit card number but actually has the card in his hand. The ID code, which only the server knows, changes each time the card is used. ‎ This prevents fraudsters recording the beeps, noting the card details and then playing back the audible ID when they key in the details later. But this earlier Beep card technology cannot prevent illegal use of stolen cards. The new voice card can. The new voice card doesn’t identify itself by its ID until it has confirmed the real user’s spoken password. Thieves will be unable to use the card because even if they knew the password they would have to be able to copy the owner’s voice with a high degree of accuracy. The challenge for Beep card has been to develop voice-recognition and audio circuitry(声音电路). ‎ The voice-recognition credit is powered by a mini battery. To extend batter life, the electronics have only to be switched on when the card is being used. Pressing a button on the card’s surface allows one to hear a female voice saying, “Say your password.” If the voice-recognition software proves that the password is real, it sends its ID, which the server then identifies, allowing the deal to continue. ‎ ‎59. Why is the voice credit an important innovation?‎ A. It is cheap to make and buy. B. It can leave voice messages.‎ ‎ C. It makes online shopping easy. D. It makes fraud more difficult. ‎ ‎60.What is the problem with the model card?‎ ‎ A. It is too large. B. It is too thick. ‎ C. It can’t be used online. D. It has no loudspeaker. ‎ ‎61.Which of the following about the earlier card is TRUE?‎ ‎ A. Its owner can change the ID code at will. ‎ B. Its user needn’t key in the credit card number. ‎ C. It can record its user’s spoken password. ‎ D. It can be used by someone who has stolen it. ‎ ‎ 62. What can we infer from the last paragraph?‎ ‎ A. Further improvement should be made to extend battery life. ‎ B. Only female voice passwords can be recognized by the card.‎ C. There are no limits to the use of the card. ‎ 17‎ D. Female customers will like using it. ‎ C ‎ Creative conservationist (环保者) Asher Jay is a designer, artist, writer, and activist who is trying to save the world’s most threatened wildlife with an unusual weapon: Art. ‎ ‎ “Today we need everyone’s involvement, not just core conservationists,” says Jay. “ People with no previous interest in conservation tune in to my messages because they engage with my work aesthetically. It starts as an interest in art for art’s sake and ends with making lifestyle changes.”‎ ‎ The New York-based artist has become a visual voice for a range of environmental causes. In Africa, screen savers glow with Jay’s graphics of a Poached rhino horn dripping with blood. Jay’s cartoons of elephants killed for their tusks have been shown in New York’s Times Square, wild other works have spread worldwide on social media. ‎ ‎ “The right image can overcome language and cultural barriers, connecting with people on a non-verbal, emotional level,” she says. “It all starts with making an emotional impression on one person. Only then will someone change habits, speak out, or donate.”‎ ‎ In recent years, much of Jay’s best known work has focused on the illegal ivory trade. ‎ In 2012, she created a silk screen print, showing a stark image of an elephant’s head silhouetted in black, dripping with red blood, and accented by a tusk decorated with images of elephants’ families. “Every tusk costs a life,” said accompanying text. “Stop poaching.”‎ ‎“I wanted to visualize the scale and brutality of the crisis and use art to tell the blood ivory story,” she says. "Every year, 35,000 elephants are slaughtered; that’s one every 15 minutes.”‎ ‎“Two-thirds of Africa’s elephants have been killed for tusks in the last 35 years. If this continues, experts predict elephants in the wild will be extinct in less than ten years.”‎ ‎ Much of Jay’s work around poaching aims simply to correct a widespread misunderstanding. “Many people think an elephant’s tusk or a rhino’s horn simply falls off, like losing a tooth. My goal,” she says, “is to make them understand that elephants die painful deaths, because they are alive and conscious as poachers cut out their tusks.”‎ ‎63. What does the underlined word, “poacher”, in the third paragraph probably mean? ‎ A. Broken optionally B. Incidentally decayed ‎ C. Taken illegally D. Repaired carelessly ‎ ‎64. What can we learn from the last paragraph?‎ ‎ A. More and more people care about wild animals now. ‎ B. Wild animals will be extinct in less than ten years. ‎ C. Jay wants people to stop buying ivory products. ‎ D. Jay’s works show the pain of elephants that are poached.‎ ‎65. What is this passage mainly about? ‎ ‎ A. An artist’s animal work aims to stop animal slaughter. ‎ B. The risk of extinction for wild animals in Jay’s works. ‎ C. A new way to stop illegal trade designed by an artist. ‎ D. How people hunt and abuse wild animals. ‎ ‎66. What does Jay say about the effect of art?‎ 17‎ ‎ A. It is a visual voice for animal protection.‎ B. It needs words to illustrate its meaning. ‎ C. It can help more money to be donated to people in need. ‎ D. It makes an emotional impression on people. ‎ D After my sixth voyage I was quite determined that I would never go to sea. One early spring day, however, I was brought to see the Caliph. He said, “Sindbad, I have chosen you to deliver a letter and a gift to the King of Serendib in return for his message of friendship."‎ The Caliph's commandment fell upon me like a thunderbolt(晴天霹雳).‎ ‎“Your Majesty," I answered, "I am ready to do all that your Majesty commands, but I have made a promise never again to leave Baghdad."‎ ‎"I admit," said he, "that you have indeed had some extraordinary experiences, but I do not see why they should prevent you from doing as I wish. You have only to go straight to Serendib and give my message, and come back as you will."‎ At last, I agreed. The Caliph was delighted and gave me a thousand sequins (gold coins) for the expenses of the voyage. Soon I sailed quickly and safely to Serendib after a nearly 30–day voyage where I was well received, and brought into the presence of the king.‎ I displayed the Caliph's gifts: a bed which cost a thousand sequins, and more beds of different fashion. The King received the assurance of the Caliph's friendliness with satisfaction. Since my task was accomplished, I was anxious to depart. The king dismissed me with many presents, and I left immediately on the end day of May. On the fifth day we suffered from pirates(海盗) who killed some of us and made the rest prisoners of whom I was one. On a distant island they sold us for slaves. I fell into the hands of a rich merchant.‎ The merchant asked me to shoot elephants in the forest. When he left, he said, “When you have succeeded in killing one come and tell me."‎ So saying, he gave me a supply of food and returned to the town. I settled myself in the tree and kept watching. The next morning I saw a large group of elephants passing by. I shot one to death and run back to tell my master of my success, for which I was praised and regaled(宴请,款待) with good things. Then we went back to bury the elephant I had killed, in order that when it became a skeleton my master might return and keep its tusks safely.‎ I hunted for two months. One morning as I watched the coming of the elephants which paused instead of passing the tree, trumpeting(嚎叫,吼叫) horribly. I was terrified. The largest of the animals brought me to the ground .I thought now that my last hour was surely come; but the huge creature, picking me up gently enough; set me upon its back, then turned into the forest. After what seemed a long time to me, I was standing on a great hill where there was filled with bones and tusks of elephants which are more than I could carry away in a lifetime.‎ I run to my master's house, and was received by him with joyful surprise. He asked me what had happened to me and why I was still alive. I soon satisfied his curiosity, and the next day we went together to the Ivory Hill, and he was overjoyed to find as many tusks.‎ He said, "My brother, these wild elephants have killed numbers of our slaves every year. You alone have escaped; therefore you must be under the special protection of Heaven. You deserve your liberty, and I will give you a fortune."‎ I only asked liberty to return to my own country 17‎ ‎"Well," he answered, "the monsoon will soon bring the ivory ships here, and then I will send you on your way."‎ So I stayed with him till the time of the monsoon. When the ships at last arrived, my master put on board for me a great store of supply, also lots of ivory, and said me goodbye. I left without feeling at ease upon the sea after what had happened. I sold my ivory and bought many expensive presents. I joined a traveling team of merchants. Our journey was long and boring, but gradually, I did not to fear storms, or pirates, or any of the other dangers. When the fall wind came blowing, we reached Baghdad. ‎ I brought myself to the Caliph and told him everything about my experience. My story was written in letters of gold, and laid up among his treasures. I took my leave of him, well satisfied with the honors and rewards he gave me; and since that time I have rested from my labors, and given myself up wholly to my family and my friends.‎ ‎67. We know what we want to do and should do. But we still end up spending hours upon hours doing “easier” work or escaping via TV, blogs or music. ‎ So what can you do? Here are some tips to help you stop procrastinating and start living your life more fully. ‎ Stop thinking and start doing. ‎ A bit of planning can certainly help you to achieve what you want to achieve. A lot of planning and thinking tends to have the opposite effect. ‎ You think and think and try to come up with “the perfect plan”. A plan where you don’t have to make mistakes, where you will never be rejected, where there will be no pain or difficulties. Such a thing does not exist. But as long as you work on that plan you can protect yourself. ‎ Just take the first step. ‎ You don’t have to see the whole staircase—just take the first step. When you start to look far into the future, any tasks or project can seem close to impossible.‎ 17‎ ‎ And so you shut down because you become overwhelmed and start surfing the Internet aimlessly instead. ‎ Start with the hardest task of your day. ‎ Do the hard jobs first. The easy jobs will take care of themselves. Whatever it may be, make it the first thing you do. If you start your day this way you will feel relieved. And the rest of the day — and your to-do list — tends to feel a lot lighter and easier to get through. ‎ Just make a decision. Any decision. ‎ We feel bad when we sit on our hands and don’t take action, because it’s unnatural. The natural thing is to be a decisive human and take action. ‎ What you do always sends signals back to you about who you’re. Say to yourself that your confidence can help you. When you procrastinate you lower your self-esteem and send signals back to yourself that you are an indecisive person. ‎ Face the fear. ‎ Procrastination is the fear of success. People procrastinate because they are afraid of the success that they know will result if they move ahead now. It’s harder to just take action. To risk looking like a fool. To make mistakes stumble and not avoid that pain. To take responsibility for your own life. ‎ Finish it. ‎ Much of the stress that people feel doesn’t come from having too much to do. It comes from not finishing what they have started. Not taking the first step to start accomplishing something can make you feel bad. But not finishing what you have started can also leave you in a sort of negative fear. ‎ If that is the case, go over the tasks and projects that you are currently involved in. Is there something that you know you want to finish, but haven’t yet done so? Try to finish it as soon as you can, and you will start to feel a whole lot better. Just be careful. Don't think you have to finish everything you have started. ‎ 17‎ 17‎ 17‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ 17‎ 第五部分 书面表达(满分25分)‎ 假如你是李华,请根据下图反映的现象围绕“拒为低头族”(stop phubbing)这个话题写一篇150词左右的英语短文。‎ ‎(词汇来源:phubbing= phone(手机) + snubbing(snub冷落的进行时态)‎ 内容包括:‎ ‎1.你身边有“低头族”吗?他们的表现;‎ ‎2.“低头族”给学习和生活带来的影响;‎ ‎3.就如何“拒为低头族”提1-2点建议。‎ 要求:‎ ‎1.文章开头已给出,不计入总词数;‎ ‎2.可以使用亲身经历或虚构的故事;‎ ‎3.文中不得出现真实姓名和学校名称。‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ Nowadays, many people are addicted to their phones. ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ .‎ 17‎ ‎2014—2015学年度高二调研测试 英语试题参考答案和听力原文 一.听力 (共20小题;每小题1分,满分20分) 1-5 CCACA 6-10 BAACA 11-15 BCCBB 16-20 AABCB 二.单项填空 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 21-25 B D C D B 26‎-30 C D B C D 31-35 B A A D D ‎ 三.完形填空 (共20小题;每小题1分, 满分20分)‎ ‎ 36-40 DCACB 41-45 DBACD 46-50 BACCB 51-55 DADBC 四.阅读理解 (共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分) ‎ ‎ 56-60 BBDDB 61-65 DACDA 66-70 DBCAC 五.任务阅读 (共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分) ‎ ‎ 71. problem 72. knowing 73. They look at their phones everywhere all the time, ignoring the people around them. In recent years, many activities have been organized to appeal to people to stop phubbing. ‎ There is a lot of phubbing around me. My cousin likes playing with mobile phones very much. He can’t stop sending text messages, surfing the Internet, playing mobile games and even taking photos with mobile phones. ‎ However, phubbing disturbs not only our studies, but also our life. Phubbing, whether playing phone games or sending text message, particularly in class or at work, is a big waste of time. What’s more, it can lead to health problems. For instance, using a mobile phone too much can cause eyes or back and neck pain. ‎ In my opinion, it is high time we threw away our phones and raise our heads. We should do more exercise and take part in real-life activities. Only when we use phones reasonably can we lead a happy life. ‎ 录音原文 Text 1‎ M: Hey, Joanne. What’s up? Are you heading to the beach, too?‎ W: I’m trying to get there as fast as I can. I need to deposit some money at the bank and mail some letters at the post office. But first, I’ve really got to find a ladies’ room!‎ Text 2‎ W: Have you looked in the mirror today?‎ M: Uh, not since I woke up this morning… Why? Did I forget to do my hair or something?‎ W: Well, let’s just say that green ties and pink shirts don’t really mix…‎ Text 3 ‎ M: I’m starving! What have you got to eat around here?‎ W: Um, not much. I really wasn’t expecting anyone over, so…‎ M: All you have in here is some salad and one of those health drinks that only girls 17‎ ‎ drink…‎ W: Look. I don’t show up at your door without calling and criticize your food, do I?‎ Text 4‎ W: Do you have any idea what time it is now? Have you ever heard your phone?‎ M: I’m sorry. But my phone ran out of power. I got back here as fast as I could because I knew you’d be worried.‎ Text 5‎ W: Hi, James! It’s me, Diane. Oh, I’m so glad I caught you. I was just talking to Drake, and…‎ M: I’m sorry. But I think you dialed the wrong number. My name is Daniel. ‎ Text 6 ‎ W: Hi, welcome to Burger‎ ‎Palace. Can I take your order, please?‎ M: Yeah. Two bacon cheeseburgers and two orders of fries, please. ‎ W: All right. Would you like anything to drink with that?‎ M: No, thanks. We’ve got sodas at home. ‎ W: So, that’s going to be to go, right?‎ M: That’s right.‎ W: OK. Your total is $17.‎ M: Here’s a twenty. Keep the change.‎ W: Oh, thank you so much! You are Number 255. Your order should be ready in about five minutes.‎ Text 7 ‎ M: Can you see how close we are on the map?‎ W: It looks like we’re pretty close, but these smart phone maps are hard to read.‎ M: Yeah, I always prefer to look at a paper map. I think I still have some in the pocket of the right door, if you wanna grab one…‎ W: No, I’d probably be even worse at that. Uh-oh, I think you were supposed to turn left back there.‎ M: You mean that you were supposed to tell me to turn left back there?‎ W: Yeah, I’m sorry. I don’t have one of these kinds of phones, so I’m afraid I don’t really know what I’m doing. Do you want to pull over and take a look?‎ M: No. It’s okay. Just push that little button on the side of the phone to turn on the sound. That will allow us to hear the directions out loud.‎ Text 8 ‎ W: Hey, are you watching YouTube?‎ M: Yeah. I love all the funny videos that people post. ‎ W: Have you ever seen the YouTube show Epic Meal Time(《超级开饭时间》)?‎ M: Uh, no. I didn’t know YouTube had shows. I thought it was only home videos and music videos…stuff like that.‎ W: Well, YouTube also has channels, just like regular TV. There are many different kinds of shows every week. Most of them are shorter and cheaper to make than regular TV, though. ‎ M: YouTube is even cooler than I thought! So, what’s Epic Meal Time?‎ 17‎ W: There’s a group of guys who make the unhealthy meals they can possibly cook. Everything has bacon on it. Most things are fried, and there is a ton of cheese on everything. We’re talking tens of thousands of calories in one meal! In this show, the main guy introduces the meal, and then you see them shopping for the ingredients. You watch them cook everything. And at the end, they all eat it with their friends!‎ Text 9 ‎ W: Brett, can I ask you a question about your dog?‎ M: Sure. What’s up?‎ W: Well, I have to get my little Ferguson some medicine.‎ M: Oh, is everything all right?‎ W: Yes, of course. It’s not like he’s sick or anything. I give him medicine every month as part of his regular care, so he doesn’t get any diseases from insects or other dogs. ‎ M: Oh, right. I do that for Fargo, too.‎ W: Yeah. That was what I was going to ask you about. Where do you buy your dog’s medicine? I asked my vet, and she told me the prices. I almost dropped dead right there!‎ M: Yeah. Unfortunately, most special pet stores sell them at fixed prices that are set by the companies that make them. You can usually find discounts of ten or fifteen percent for a lot of those stores, though.‎ W: Well, that’s not a huge help for something that’s two hundred dollars per year! Isn’t there any other way?‎ M: Well, you can order some medicines from websites that are based in other countries where the prices are lower. ‎ Text 10 ‎ This is the Lakewood Public Address System. This is not a test like the one we had last week. I repeat, this is not a test. The Western Hill Fire is spreading toward Lakewood much quicker than we had expected. Currently, we expect the fire to come within twenty miles of Lakewood by six o’clock this evening. We are therefore requiring all residents to leave this area immediately. ‎ Springfield‎ to the north, Point Cabina Station to the east, and Galveston to the south are all in the safe zone. It will take less than thirty minutes to drive to any of these towns. Take as many things as you can fit in your car, but do not delay. We have orders from the state police to make sure that the entire town of Lakewood is empty by five o’clock today. You have plenty of time to get all your family members, pets, and belongings together, so there is no need to panic. Stay calm, but get started as soon as possible. ‎ 17‎
