In 1816, there were no schools for the deaf in America. Several people started a few schools, but in the end all of the schools closed. There were too many problems. The first people to succeed were Laurent Clerc and Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet. They opened their school in 1817, and the school did not close. At that time it was the only school for deaf children in America!

When Chen Jiuying read her daughter's letter, she couldn't help crying. Chen and her husband are now working far away from their hometown. As we all know helping each other is also part of our life.
In public places, especially in the street, people are often seen to help the old or the disabled cross the road or go upstairs. At home, children often help their parents do some housework they can when they are free. At school, when one student has some trouble with his study or life, other classmates often offer their help. Sometimes, students always donate some money to help some classmate when he has a serious disease.
