weekend,” said Dad. “Don’t let me down.” Serena was the oldest child in the family, and one of her chores was to mow their yard. Mrs. Martin, their elderly neighbor, was unable to take care of her yard, so Serena’s dad had volunteered Serena for this job. Since Mrs. Martin’s yard was not very big, Serena knew the job would go quickly.
However, she still resented her dad’s promise.
“Why didn’t you ask me first?” Serena had complained.
“Did you ask me first when you volunteered me to be in the school festival last fall?” asked Serena’s father.
“Well, no, I didn’t ask you first, but you would have done those things anyway. You’re always willing to help.”
“I try when I can,” Dad answered.
“Serena, we have known Mrs. Martin for a very long time. She has often helped our family. Now we can do something for her. Besides, the feeling you get from helping someone makes you wonder who is really helping whom.”
“I don’t know, Dad,” moaned Serena. “The only feeling I get from mowing our yard is tired.”
“Just you wait and see,” said Dad.
After breakfast, Serena made her way over to Mrs. Martin’s yard and soon had Mrs. Martin’s yard looking tidy. Serena was raking grass clippings when Mrs. Martin came outside with a big glass of lemonade and offered it to her. Serena stopped her work and gratefully accepted the refreshing drink. While Serena sipped the lemonade, Mrs. Martin talked to her about all of the flowers in her yard. Seeing the joy in Mrs. Martin’s eyes as she spoke, Serena began to understand how much the yard meant to Mrs. Martin.

The introduction of the iPad, with its touch screen technology, has allowed even very young children to take advantage of a computer. So what if all children in a school were given an iPad to use in class and take home with them?
Anne Laure Bazin works in a school where every child, teacher and teaching assistant is given a free iPad to use in and out of lessons. For her, the main advantage of everyone having an iPad has been the improvement in communication. Documents can be emailed straight over to workmates during a meeting. Children submit their homework by email, or through the school’s learning environment. Teachers now take the register(点名) using their iPad, which means that there is a centralized record of which children are in school, and which classroom they are in.
The use of iPad has encouraged greater sharing of resources among teachers. All communication with parents is now done by email. Working as a group in class is much easier as children can share documents. The whole class can look at one child’s work by attaching(连接) the iPad to the whiteboard. If a child has forgotten the [来源:学+科+网Z+X+X+K]textbook, the teacher can take a photograph of the relevant(相关的) page and send it to the student in class.
While the use of the iPad in schools has revolutionized(变革) the way children are taught, it hasn’t completely replaced more traditional methods of teaching. Worksheets are still used in class as some children prefer the contact with paper. The children all have a textbook and exercise books. In Anne Laure’s school, parents feared that the iPads would replace exercise books and children would lose handwriting skills. Anne Laure says, “The teachers are not ready
8
to let go of the traditional style of teaching. We have welcomed the iPads in so much as they help communication and widen the resources available but we are not ready to let go of paper yet. The [来源:Z-x-x-k.Com]children themselves still value their exercise books and depend on them for review.”
61. When everyone uses an iPad in school, teachers can ________ .
A. have deep conversations with students
B. have more time to prepare the lessons
C. learn more about students’ activities at home
D. can communicate with their workmates more conveniently
62. The underlined word “submit” in the second paragraph means ________.
A. discuss B. share C. hand in D. send our
63. What is an advantage of using iPads in the classroom?
A. It saves students bringing the textbooks.
B. It reduces parents’ worry about teaching
C. It improves the relationship between teachers.
D. It makes it convenient to share information.
64. What is parents’ attitude towards the use of the iPads in the classroom?

Dear Peter,
I am writing to tell you my favorite sport. Of all sports, I like table tennis best. I became interested in it when I was very young. At that time I would sit before the TV set, watching the matches about table tennis. I’m fond of Chinese Team players, such as Ding Ning, Wang Hao, Ma Lin, and so on. I think it is not only a sport but also an art because it is a game that needs strength and skill.
The reason why I like it very much is that it is our national sports as well as of great benefit to us. Playing table tennis can build up our bodies, keep us healthy and train our brains, What’s more, it can help us to learn to cooperate with each other. In a word, I like it very much. Though I can’t play it well, I still try my best to practice it.
I am also looking forward to learning about your favorite sport.
Best wishes.
Yours,
Li Hua
