And they spend a higher proportion (比例) of it online than the rest of us. Teenagers are just the sort of people an online seller is interested in, and the things they want to - 18 -‎ ‎ buy---games, CDs and clothing---are easily sold on the Web.‎ But paying online is a tricky business for consumers who are too young to own credit cards. Most have to use a parent’s card. They want a facility that allows them to spend money.‎ That may come sooner than they think: new ways to take pocket money into cyber (网络的) space are coming out rapidly on both sides of the Atlantic. If successful, these products can stimulate (刺激) online sales.‎ In general, teenagers spend huge amounts: $153bn (billion) in the US last year and £20bn annually in the UK. Most teenagers have access to the Internet at home or at school-88 percent in the US, 69 percent in the UK. According to the Jupiter Research, one in eight of those with Internet access has bought something online-mainly CDs and books.‎ In most cases, parents pay for these purchases with credit cards, an arrangement that is often unsatisfactory for them and their children. Pressing parents to spend online is less productive than pressing on the high street. They are more likely to ask “Why?” if you ask them to spend some money online.‎ One way to help teenagers change notes and coins into cyber cash is through prepaid cards such as Internet Cash in the US and Smart cards in the UK. Similar to those for pay-as-you-go mobile telephones, they are sold in amounts such as £20 or $50 with a concealed 14-digit number that can be used to load the cash into an online account.‎ ‎21. What does the underlined word “They” in paragraph 1 refer to? ‎ A. Parents.                   B. Teenagers.              C. Sellers.                      D. Buyers.‎ ‎22. According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE? ‎ A. Teenagers pay for goods online with their own credit cards.‎ B. Most teenagers in the US and the UK have bought something online.‎ C. Teenagers found it easier to persuade parents to buy online than in a shop.‎ D. More than half of the teenagers in the US and the UK have Internet access.‎ ‎23. A new way to help teenagers shop online is to use ______. ‎ A. prepaid cards                               B. special coins and notes - 18 -‎ C. a new machine                                           D. pay-as-you-go mobile phones ‎24. What is the passage mainly about? ‎ A. Online shopping traps.                      B. New credit cards for parents.‎ C. The arrival of cyber pocket money.           D. Internet users in the US and the UK.‎ ‎ B What makes one person more intelligent than another? What makes one person a genius, like the brilliant Albert Einstein, and another person a fool? Are people born intelligent or stupid, or is intelligence the result of where and how you live? These are very old questions and the answers to them are still not clear.‎ We know, however, that just being born with a good mind is not enough. In some ways, the mind is like a leg or an arm muscle. It needs exercise. Mental exercise is particularly important for young children. Many child psychologists think that parents should play with their children more often and give them problems to think about. The children are then more likely to grow up bright and intelligent. If, on the other hand, children are left alone a great deal with nothing to do, they are more likely to become dull and unintelligent.‎ Parents should also be careful with what they say to young children. According to some psychologists, if parents are always telling a child that he or she is a fool or an idiot, then the child is more likely to keep doing silly and foolish things. So it is probably better for parents to say very positive(积极的)things to their children, such as “That was a very clever thing you did.” or “You are such a smart child.”‎ ‎25. The word “dull” in the second paragraph means _____. ‎ A. slow in thinking and understanding B. ordinary-looking ‎ C. common D. careless ‎26. A person _____ is more likely to become a genius. ‎ ‎ A. whose parents are clever ‎ ‎ B. often thinking about difficult problems ‎ C. often helped by his parents and teachers ‎ - 18 -‎ D. born with a good brain and putting it into active use ‎27. It is better for parents _____. ‎ ‎ A. to praise and encourage their children more often B. to be hard on their children ‎ C. to leave their children alone with nothing to do ‎ D. to give their children as much help as possible ‎28. Which of the following is NOT true according to the article? ‎ ‎ A. Parents play an important part in their children’s growth.‎ ‎ B. The less you use your mind the duller you may become.‎ ‎ C. Intelligence is obviously the result of where and how you live.‎ ‎ D. What makes a person bright or stupid is still under discussion.‎ C Reading‎ is important, but getting kids to enjoy reading can be quite difficult. There are two steps you can take to help kids to enjoy reading. Firstly you need to find something they actually want to read. Then, you need to get them to read school books, but this is not the place to start.‎ So how do you choose something for your kids to read? You have to find out what your kids enjoy. It doesn’t matter what you buy, so long as your kids will find it interesting. A book given as a reward (奖励) will often be more enjoyed by kids. If your kids have just done well at something, this is a good time to give them a new book.‎ The second thing you need to consider is where your kids are going to read. I strongly suggest creating a “reading space” in their room and also a time for them to read on their own, ideally just before bed time.‎ There is another way to really speed up your kids’ reading. It is to get them writing. When you set up their “reading space”, be sure to give them a diary and a pen. Just by writing a few sentences each day they will improve their skills.‎ So to successfully get your kids to enjoy reading you need to create them a space in which they read, give them something fun to read, and improve their skills through writing. Before you know it, their abilities will have moved forward and you will be amazed at their progress. Of course, remember all the time to reward good reading with more books.‎ ‎29. The author wrote this passage to .‎ ‎ A. show us how to speed up our reading ‎ - 18 -‎ ‎ B. tell us the benefits of reading for kids ‎ ‎ C. give us some tips on how to get kids to enjoy reading ‎ D. give us examples of how to choose proper books for kids ‎30. Whom is this passage intended for?‎ ‎ A. Teachers. B. Kids. C. Parents. D. Workers.‎ ‎31. Which of the following methods will most probably get kids to value their books?‎ ‎ A. Giving them books as a reward. B. Reading books together with them.‎ ‎ C. Choosing books they like. D. Giving them a reading space.‎ D American cities are similar to other cities around the world. In every country, cities reflect the values of the culture. American cities are changing, just as American society is changing. ‎ After World War II, the population of most large American cities decreased; however, the population in many Sun Belt cities increased. In the late 1940s and early 1950s,city residents became wealthier. They had more children so they needed more space. They moved out of their apartments in the city to buy their own homes. They bought houses in the suburbs.‎ Now things are changing, the children of the people who left the cities in the 1950s are now adults. Many, unlike their parents, want to live in the cities. They continue to move to Sun Belt cities and older ones of the Northeast and Midwest. Many young professionals are moving back into the city. They prefer the city to the suburbs because their jobs are there; or they just enjoy the excitement and possibilities that the city offers. ‎ This population shift(迁移)is bringing problems as well as benefits. Countless poor people must leave their apartments in the city because the owners want to sell the buildings or make apartments for sale instead of for rent. In the 1950s, many poor people did not have enough money to move to the suburbs; now many of these same people do not have enough money to stay in the cities. ‎ Only a few years ago, people thought that the older American cities were dying. Some city residents now see a bright, new future. Others see only problems and conflicts. One thing is sure: many dying cities in America are alive again. ‎ ‎32. What does the author think of cities all over the world? ‎ A. They are dying. B. They are hopeless. ‎ C. They are similar. D. They are different. ‎ - 18 -‎ ‎33. Why did American city residents want to live in the suburbs after World War II? ‎ A. Because older American cities were dying. ‎ B. Because they were richer and needed more space. ‎ C. Because cities contained the worst parts of society. ‎ D. Because they could hardly afford to live in the city. ‎ ‎34. According to the 4th paragraph, a great many poor people in American cities ______. ‎ A. are faced with housing problems B. are forced to move back to the suburbs C. want to sell their buildings D. need more money for daily expenses ‎35. We can conclude from the text that ______. ‎ A. American cities are changing for the worse B. people have different views on American cities C. older people prefer the city to the suburbs in ‎America D. the population is decreasing in older American cities 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。(若选E,请涂AB; 若选F, 请涂BC; 若选G, 请涂CD)‎ Does this situation seem familiar to you? They are only a means of checking how we are getting along with our studies, so there is no need to worry about the results. Secondly, study hard every day and make careful plans for every exam. Only in this way can we avoid suffering from the pressure of exams. Besides, enough sleep can make us energetic and enable us to perform well in an exam. Therefore, during the period of exams, we should not stay up too late.‎ In a word, if we want to do well in the exam, we must get rid of these symptoms of anxiety.‎ Yours,‎ Li Hua - 18 -‎ Listening texts Text 1‎ M: I’ve heard the manager made a notice this morning.
