The metro system in London, widely known as the Tube,is the world’s oldest underground railway. However,it's more than just a transport system.
It is not unusual to see people reading thick books on the Tube, crowded at the door during rush hour. But there’s another way Londoners enjoy literature on the underground,as poems are scattered around randomly.
The project of the poems has been running since 1986 and poems appear three times a year, six at a time. Two of the poems are always written by living poets.American writer Judith Cherniak, editor and founder of Poems on the Underground, said that most of them are chosen randomly, either from great poets or from unknown enthusiasts of English poetry.
Conceived(构思)by Cherniak, these poems aim to bring poetry to passengers, and show a wide range of styles. They are classical or contemporary, domestic or international.
Love or hate poetry, this project“has proved to be an excellent way of introducing poetry, with passengers often wanting to read more,”according to the government organization Transport for London.“This has led to the publication of a series of Poems on the Underground books, which is now in its 11th edition.”

A Finnish city is handing out‘‘survival packs” to new arrivals to its universities and colleges, taking inspiration from the country’s famous baby starter boxes. The city of Lahti has packaged up a selection of essentials for new students, helped by contributions from local businesses, national broadcaster Yle reports.More than 1,000 students have received one of the packs so far.And just like the parcels given to pregnant mothers across the country,Lahti’s offering comes in a cardboard box.
Among the items new students will find inside is a bus pass for trips around the city, some locally produced sheets and socks, and a pack of porridge,Yle says.Students can also put in the popular Nordic snack salmiakki. The survival pack is meant to introduce students to the delights of Lahti while also serving as a marketing opportunity for businesses in the city.
“There has been some swapping going on,”says Rosberg from Lahti University of Applied Sciences, adding that someone was willing to swap their porridge for some ice hockey tickets.Ms Rosberg adds that other cities have also been in touch to enquire about the packs.
While Yle reports that students have been giving the box various reviews, local newspaper Etela has a few ideas for some useful additions. After 900 reports of bicycle thefts in Lahti last year, the paper thinks a bike lock would be pretty handy. And because of many students’fondness for a drink, they suggest a bottle of orange juice is included as a guaranteed cure for drunkenness.

Your friends’lives may look more exciting than yours on Facebook, but new research shows that is because they are faking(伪造)it.
A recent survey has found around two-thirds of people on social media post images(图像) to their personal information to make their lives seem more adventurous. And more than three quarters of those asked said they judged their peers(同龄人)based on what they saw on their Instagram,Snapehat or Facebook pages.
The British survey,by smartphone maker HTC,found that,in order to make our own pages and lives appear more exciting, six percent also said they had borrowed items to include in the images in order to pass them off as their own.More than half of those surveyed said they posted images of items and places purely to show off, causing jealousy among friends and family.
Behavioural psychologist Hemmings said the trend was unsurprising due to the rise of social media.“We’re living in a world of instant communication.”she said.“Fashion and style used to live and die in magazines;now people are in search of authentic,peer-to-peer recommendations as well, making social media an equal power house to magazines and newspapers.”
“With images being shared in an instant we desire to know what our friends are wearing,or what super stars are buying,as soon as they have got them.”Such is the influence of social media sites like Instagram,76 percent of those asked also said seeing items on social media influences them to buy them, with men more likely to take style advice and buy what they see.
32.How do some people make their lives appear more exciting?
A.By buying pictures. B.By posting images.
C.By making up stories. D.By risking their lives.
33.What does the word“jealousy”in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Envy. B.Conflict. C.Adventure.D.Misunderstanding.
34.What can we learn from Jo Hemmings?
A.The trend reflects the development of social media.
B.Fashion and style no longer exist in magazines.
C.Magazines and newspapers are less important.
D.The trend is beyond people's expectation.
35.Which of the following best describes social media like Instagram?

How to Persuade People
Convincing people that your way is the best way is often very difficult---especially when you’re not quite sure why they’re saying no.Turn the tables on your conversation and convince people of your point of view. 36 And with the right methods, you can do it.
1.37 Knowing how to persuade people isn’t just in words and body language—it’s also in knowing the right time to talk to them.If you approach people when they are more relaxed and open to discussion, you will most likely achieve faster, better results.
2.Talk fast.People are more persuaded by a fast, confident talker than accuracy.Sort of makes sense—the faster you talk, the less time your listener has to process what you’ve said and question it.38
3.Get to know them.A large part of whether or not persuasion is effective is based on the general understanding between you and your son/friend/employee.If you don’t know the person well,it's necessary to start building this understanding immediately—find common ground as soon as possible.39 So find parallels and make them known.
4. 40 There is something to be said for clarity. If you're confusing the person may want to agree with you,but doesn’t necessarily know what you’re looking for.Speaking in a firm way will help you maintain directness and keep your intentions clear.
A.Speak firmly.
B.Understand the best time.
C.Talk about what interests them.
D.The trick is to get them wondering why they’re saying no.
