However, whenever I used to tell people I don’t like peanut butter, they’d get all defensive like “Peanut butter is amazing! How do you not like it?!”, and then I’d have to go into this whole thing to defend my taste buds.‎ But then I got tired of it and started telling people that I’m just allergic to peanuts because that way it’s not my fault that I hate the smell of peanut butter. Now I seem like a sad little baby who can never taste peanut butter ever in her life and everyone feels sad for me.‎ But the problem is that I really have an appetite for peanut m&ms (巧克力豆) but now I can only eat peanut m&ms when I’m at home alone. The only person who knows my lie is my husband. 1 remember one evening we had a small celebration for one of our friends and they had peanut m&ms. I really wanted some but obviously couldn’t eat them in public because people would know my peanut secret.‎ When we got home after work, my husband tipped his jacket over and emptied his pockets. Peanut m&ms fell out of his pockets and he whispered, “I was sneakily accumulating them all night for you because I could see the pain in your eyes.”‎ If that isn’t love, and then I don’t know what is.‎ ‎24. Why does the author have to lie about her taste?‎ A. Because she is allergic to peanuts. B. Because people feel sympathy for her.‎ C. Because lying makes people feel better. ‎ D. Because she is no longer willing to explain.‎ ‎25. What does everyone feel sad about?‎ A. My health problems. B. My not being able to eat peanuts.‎ C. My lying all the time. D. My not getting along with them.‎ ‎26. The underlined word “sneakily” in Paragraph 4 refers to .‎ A. patiently B. carefully C. secretly D. hurriedly ‎27. The passage is intended to .‎ - 12 -‎ A. show the husband’s deep love B. share an unforgettable experience C. tell how to fight against one’s allergy D. express dissatisfaction with people around C It’s difficult to think of a better-known work of art than Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa. Michelangelo’s The Creation of Adam on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel comes close, but that’s a detail of a huge work, not a work of art on its own. Images by many 20th-century artists like Spain’s Pablo Picasso and the US’ Andy Warhol are also instantly recognizable. However, no other painting is nearly as famous as the portrait in oils of a fashionable young lady of Florence, Italy.‎ This painting isn’t just famous because the image is now able to be reproduced over and over again. Its fame has at least something to do with the fact that it’s a fine piece of work. Da Vinci was a leader in the revolution in painting in the Renaissance period. The Renaissance was more centered around humans than previous European culture was, and the Mona Lisa is a fine example of Renaissance humanism. The work is about a person. The woman da Vinci painted does not represent a religious idea, but is an individual whom one feels that one could talk to and know.‎ And the question of who the woman is has always interested the public. The earliest answer, from 1517, is that she was just a "certain Florentine lady", but in 1550, famous historian and painter Giorgio Vasari said she was Mona Lisa, the wife of silk merchant Francesco del Giocondo. Over the centuries, a number of other women have been put forth as the model, including a suggestion that da Vinci used himself, looking in a mirror, as well as the idea that she was painted from da Vinci’s imagination. The work invites the viewer/reader to discover for himself or herself, perhaps invent, what it means.‎ ‎"Leonardo kept it himself, and took it with him to Milan, Rome, and France, and used it as a ‘calling card’", said Larry Feinberg from the Art Institute of Chicago — sort of an advertisement: "Hey, look what I painted! I can paint for you, too!"‎ ‎28. Why does the author refer to three other artists?‎ ‎ A. To show the Mona Lisa is very famous. ‎ B. To compare da Vinci with other painters.‎ - 12 -‎ ‎ C. To introduce different great painters. ‎ D. To prove no other painter is equal to da Vinci.‎ ‎29. What is stressed by mentioning the Renaissance?‎ ‎ A. Painting skills of the Mona Lisa. B. Different attitudes to the Mona Lisa.‎ ‎ C. The economic value of the Mona Lisa. ‎ D. The tradition-breaking idea of the Mona Lisa.‎ ‎30. What helped the Mona Lisa’s popularity according to Paragraph 3?‎ ‎ A. It’s being painted from imagination. B. It’s being open to different understanding.‎ ‎ C. Da Vinci’s using himself as the model. D. Many women’s claiming to be the model.‎ ‎31. What does Feinberg say about da Vinci?‎ ‎ A. He was eager to paint for people. B. He fell in love with the Mona Lisa.‎ ‎ C. He used the Mona Lisa to earn a reputation. ‎ D. He made a fortune through the Mona Lisa.‎ D If you’ve ever looked at a computer screen for hours on end, you probably know what it feels like when your eyes are tired and your head is tense.‎ What you are likely experiencing is digital eye strain (劳损). It could also lead to dry eyes. But are screens criminals behind needing glasses? Not necessarily, according to Melanie Schmitt, an assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin.‎ There has been an increase in cases of nearsightedness, but scientists don’t know if screens do the damage. “Several other factors can cause the phenomenon of nearsightedness, one of which is too much time spent indoors. Looking at a screen for too long can cause eye strain, but it doesn’t have any long lasting consequences,” Schmitt says.‎ A recent study by researchers in Madrid did find that LED lights—those used in screens—contributed to retina (视网膜) damage in the eyes of rats. However, more research is necessary to determine if the same effect occurs in humans.‎ You’re sure to feel the consequence of not taking screen breaks throughout the day. In order not to have digital eye strain, eye doctors say that you’d best take a 20-second break to look at something 20 feet away every 20 minutes. It also works a little bit if - 12 -‎ ‎ you adjust your computer to remove a glare or use eye drops to keep your eyes wet.‎ ‎“I always tell patients and parents that come in to see me the importance of getting children outside to play and be exposed in natural lighting,” Schmitt says. “This goes for adults, too. Going outside is an opportunity for the eyes to rest from near-work and look at distance instead.”‎ ‎32. What will happen if you fix your eyes on a computer screen too long?‎ A. You’ll feel tired all over. B. You’ll have a bad headache.[:&&]‎ C. You’ll suffer from eye damage. D. You’ll lose your eyesight temporarily.‎ ‎33. In Schmitt’s opinion, which of the following can cause nearsightedness?‎ A. Staying indoors too long. B. Using LED lights.‎ C. Taking screen breaks. D. Using eye drops often.‎ ‎34. What’s the best way to prevent digital eye strain?‎ A. To keep eyes wet all the time. B. To follow the 20/20/20 rule.‎ C. To avoid doing much near-work. D. To sit as far from the computer as possible.‎ ‎35. What would be the best title for the text?‎ A. Are Screens Criminals Behind Needing Glasses? B. A Recent Study on Eye Damages C. How to Protect Your Eyes Timely? D. An Increase in Cases of Nearsightedness 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) ‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Negative situations happen all the time.
