阅读下列短文 ,从每题所给的四个选项 (A 、B 、C 和 D )中选出最佳选项 ,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
A
Hey there,
So you’re about to spend four years of your life and tens of thousands of dollars of your patent’s money, and all you really know about college is that all of your friends are going. Do you ever stop to wonder why you’re going?
Relax. You’re making the right decision. First of all, you’ll discover what interests you by taking courses in many subjects. For example, it’s hard to decide if you want to be a painter if you’ve never painted any pictures; once you’re in a drawing-room on campus, you’ll know one way or the other. College is also a lot of fun—after you graduate, you’ll be working every weekday for 50 years or so. And remember that college graduates earn about twice the income of those who never attended college.
Finding the right college can be difficult. Fortunately, Johnson Review is here to help you every step of the way.
* Researching Schools. To us, the most important decision you’ll make is to choose the school that really fits you best—not the one that is the most competitive or has the best-equipped rooms.
* Applying to School. On JohnsonReview.com, you’ll find hundreds of actual college applications(申请) and links to many more.
* Raising Your Scores. American College Test is one of the most difficult parts of the admissions(录取) course. It’s not the most important, though, and not everyone needs to prepare for the best. But, if you think you can do better, find the right course for better scores.
* Paying for School. Most families need financial aid for the high cost of college. The problem is that financial aid seems difficult to get and many families get caught up in the price of college rather than learning the ways to get financial aid. If you really do your research, you’ll learn that you can afford to attend any college, no matter the cost.

Teenagers are often a difficult group. With all those hormones(荷尔蒙) flooding their bodies, they can be moody, unpredictable, and tend to make uncertain choices. But however confusing their teenage years are, kids can still be generally happy, depending on their lifestyle choices. According to a new research by British scientists, teens who don’t smoke, drink only moderately or not at all, and who don’t eat much junk food are likely to be happier than other teens.
The study looked at 40,000 British families and came up with some interesting findings. For example, kids who never drank alcohol were up to six times more likely to report higher levels of happiness than kids who drank. And teens who smoked were five times less likely to rate high on happiness charts compared to kids who don’t smoke. Same goes for diet and physical activity. The more fruits and vegetables kids eat, and the more hours they spend playing sports, the happier they are.
Now, of course this doesn’t mean that not smoking or drinking, and playing sports guarantees happiness. It could be that kids who have happy character tend to be more active and less addicted to drinking or smoking. And it could equally be the case that kids who are unhappy are more related to drinking and smoking and eating junk food.
Other studies have shown that exercise is a proven way to treat anxiety and depression. Future studies may support the idea that other healthful behaviors, including refraining(克制) from smoking, drinking, and eating too much junk, can avoid sadness and increase happiness, too.
25.What can we learn from the text?
A. Not smoking or drinking guarantees happiness.
B. Teens with flooding hormones can not be happy.
C. Playing sports can decrease teen’s unhappiness.
D. Unhappiness can certainly result in smoking and drinking.
26. Which of the following might help teens quit anxiety?
A. Smoking and drinking.
B. Taking exercise.
C. Eating junk food.
D. Going on a diet.
27.Which can be the best title for the text?

B. Exercise and teenagers’ health.
C. Teenagers shouldn’t drink or smoke.
D. Teenagers’ lifestyle and their happiness.
Think about the last time you felt a negative emotion—like stress, anger, or frustration. What was going through your mind as you were going through that negativity? Was your mind cluttered with (充斥) different kinds of thoughts? Or was it paralyzed, unable to think?
The next time you find yourself in the middle of a very stressful time, or you feel angry or frustrated, stop. Yes, that’s right, stop. Whatever you’re doing, stop and sit for one minute. While you’re sitting there, completely immerse yourself in the negative emotion.
Allow that emotion to consume you. Allow yourself one minute to truly feel that emotion. Don’t cheat yourself here. Take the entire minute—but only one minute—to do nothing else but feel that emotion.
When the minute is over, ask yourself, “Am I willing to keep holding on to this negative emotion as I go through the rest of the day?”
Once you’ve allowed yourself to be totally immersed in the emotion and really feel it, you will be surprised to find that the emotion clears rather quickly.
If you feel you need to hold on to the emotion for a little longer, that is OK. Allow yourself another minute to feel the emotion.
When you feel you’ve had enough of the emotion, ask yourself if you’re willing to carry that negativity with you for the rest of the day. If not, take a deep breath. As you exhale, release all that negativity with your breath.
This exercise seems simple—almost too simple. But, it is very effective. By allowing that negative emotion the space to be truly felt, you are dealing with the emotion rather than stuffing it down and trying not to feel it. You are actually taking away the power of the emotion by giving it the space and attention it needs. When you immerse yourself in the emotion, and realize that it is only emotion, it loses its control. You can clear your head and proceed with your task.
28.What should you do when you are into negativity according to the article?
A. Listen to some music.
B. Ignore it and do something else.
C. Just do nothing and truly feel that emotion.
D. Think about it and try to deal with it immediately.
29.The underlined word “immerse” (Paragraph 2) most probably means _____.
A. break down B. get rid of C. cut off D. throw into
30.What’s the best title of this text?
A. Clear Your Mental Space.
B. Deep Breath, Trouble Away.
C. Try to Avoid the Negative Emotion.
D. Keep Holding on to This Negative Emotion as Long as Possible.
31.The author’s opinion towards negative emotion is _____.
A. doubtful B. optimistic C. frightened D. confused
The regular use of text messages and e-mails can lower the IQ more than twice as much as smoking marijuana (大麻). That is the statement of researchers who have found that tapping away
on a mobile phone or computer keypad or checking for electronic messages temporarily knocks up to 10 points off the user’s IQ. This rate of decline in intelligence compares unfavorably with the four-point drop in IQ associated with smoking marijuana, according to British researchers, who have described the phenomenon of improved stupidity as “infomania”. The research conducted by Hewlett Packard, the technology company, has concluded that it is mainly a problem for adult workers, especially men.
It is concluded that too much use of modern technology can damage a person’s mind. It can cause a constant distraction of “always on” technology when employees should be concentrating on what they are paid to do. Infomania means that they lose concentration as their minds remain fixed in an almost permanent state of readiness to react to technology instead of focusing on the task in hand. The report also added that, in a long term, the brain will be considerably shaped by what we do to it and by the experience of daily life. At a microcellular level, the complex networks of nerve cells that make up parts of the brain actually change in response to certain experiences.
Too much use of modern technology can be damaging not only to a person’s mind, but to their social relationship. 1100 adults were interviewed during the research. More than 62 per cent of them admitted that they were addicted to checking their e-mails and text messages so often that they scrutinized work-related ones even when at home or on holiday. Half said that they always responded immediately to an email and will even interrupt a meeting to do so. It is concluded that infomania is increasing stress and anxiety and affecting one’s characteristics. Nine out of ten thought that colleagues who answered e-mails or messages during a face-to-face meeting were extremely rude.
The effects on IQ were studied by Dr Glenn Wilson, a psychologist at University of London. “This is a very real and widespread phenomenon,” he said. “We have found that infomania will damage a worker’s performance by reducing their mental sharpness and changing their social life. Companies should encourage a more balanced and appropriate way of working.”
32.We can learn from the passage that “infomania” ______.
A. has a positive influence on one’s IQ
B. results in the change of part of the brain
C. lies in the problem of lack of concentration
D. is caused by too much use of modern technology
33.The research mentioned in the passage is most probably about ______.
A. the important function of advanced technology
B. the damage to one’s brain done by unhealthy habits
C. the relevance between IQ and use of modern technology
D. the relationship between intelligence and working effectiveness
34.The underlined word “scrutinized” probably means “______”.
A. examined carefully B. copied patiently
C. corrected quickly D. admitted freely
35.What is the main idea of this passage?
A. The regular use of text messages and e-mails can be compared to smoking marijuana.
B. The regular use of text messages and e-mails can harm your IQ.
C. Modern technology can damage a person’s mind.
D. Electronic messages have side effects on the user’s life.

52.
Dear Mr. Smith,
I am writing to suggest opening a “Class Report” column to report on the news of every class, including good deeds, class activities and advanced management experience, encouraging every student to write reports about his own class.
Since the English version of the school newspaper was published, it has become very popular among students, due to its colorful pictures and the important news from both home and abroad. It really plays an important role in improving our English.
I think opening this column can make the newspaper take a further step. First, it can attract more of our attention, because the reports are close to our own life. Second, it can improve our writing skills as the reports are written by ourselves. Third, it also can serve as a platform for us to communicate and learn from each other.
I’m looking forward to your reply.
Yours
Li Hua
