I had an experience once which taught me something about the ways people made a bad situation worse by blaming themselves. One January, I officiated (主持) at two funerals for two elderly women. Both died a natural death. At the first home, the son of the deceased (已故) woman said, “If only I had sent my mother to Florida and gotten her out of this cold and snow, she
would be alive today. It’s my fault that she died.” At the second home, the son said, “If only I had not insisted her going to Florida, she would be alive today. That long airplane ride was more than she could take. It is my fault.”
When things don’t turn out as we would like them to, we tend to assume that had we done things differently, the story would have had a happier ending. Any time there is a death, the survivors will feel guilty. Because the course of action they took turned out bad, they believe that the opposite course, for example, keeping mother at home, would have turned out better. After all, how could it have turned out any worse?
There seem to be elements involved in our readiness to feel guilty. The first lies in our belief that the world makes sense—there is a reason for everything that happens.
The second is the thought that we are the cause of what happens, especially the bad things that happen. The roots of this feeling may lie in our childhood. A baby comes to think that the world exists to meet his needs, and that he makes everything happen in it. He wakes up in the morning and calls the rest of the world to its tasks. He cries, and someone comes to attend to him. When he is hungry, people feed him, and when he is wet, people change him. Very often, we do not completely abandon that childish thought that our wishes cause things to happen.
24. What is true about the two deceased elderly women?
A. They died from accidents.
B. They both died of old age.
C. They died due to lack of care by family members.
D. They weren’t accustomed to the change in life.
25. People feel guilty for the death of their loved ones because .
A. they cannot find a better way to express their sorrow
B. they don’t know that natural course of events
C. they believe that it is their fault
D. they don’t know things often turn out in the opposite direction
26. The underlined word “they” in Paragraph 2 probably refers to .
A. the things B. the stories C. the opposites D. the survivors
27. What is the main idea of this passage?
A. Two sons blamed themselves for their mother’s death.
B. Things don’t always go well as we expect.
C. Two factors account for guilty sense.
D. Baby’s wishes lead everything to happen.

The Republic of Vanuatu is an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. It was one of the poorest nations in the region. Within the last five years, however, it has become a hot spot for adventure travelers. In 2006 it was voted the happiest place on Earth. The reason is not that Vanuatu are the richest but that Vanuatu has white-sand islands, clear waters, the world’s most accessible live volcano, great diving and food that grows faster than it can be picked.
With a population of about 221,000, Vanuatu has 113 languages, which is a result of 3,000 years of immigration from many Pacific countries. There are three official languages: English, French, and Bislama. Bislama developed from South Pacific English, a simplified language that traders and other foreigners used it to communicate with speakers of the many local languages.
Most of the islands are mountainous and of volcanic origin. There are several active volcanoes in Vanuatu, including Yasur on the island of Tanna, one of the world’s most accessible volcanoes. If you’ve ever fancied getting close to a volcano, here’s your chance.
Vanuatu Post’s Underwater Post Office has quickly become one of the busiest post offices for postcards in the world! Visitors from around the world want to experience the world’s first under- water post office. Since opening in 2003, the underwater post office has received about 100,000 visitors. They have posted one of the waterproof(防水的)postcards available in Vanuatu; these cards are collected regularly by one of Vanuatu Post’s four
trained divers. The underwater branch is manned daily for usually about an hour, longer with demand.

Modern inventions have speeded up people’s lives amazingly. Motor-cars cover a hundred miles in little more than an hour, aircraft cross the world inside a day, while computers operate at lightning speed. Indeed, this love of speed seems never-ending. Every year motor-cars are produced which go even faster and each new computer boasts (吹嘘) of saving precious seconds in handling tasks.
All this saves time, but at a price. When we lose or gain half a day in speeding across the world in an airplane, our bodies tell us so. We get the uncomfortable feeling known as jet-lag; our bodies feel that they have been left behind in another time zone. Again, spending too long at computers results in painful wrists and fingers.Mobile phones also have their dangers, according to some scientists; too much use may transmit harmful radiation into our brains, a consequence we do not like to think about.
However, what do we do with the time we have saved? Certainly not relax, or so it seems. We are so accustomed to constant activity that we find it difficult to sit and do nothing, or even just one thing at a time.Perhaps the days are long gone when we might listen quietly to a story on the radio, letting imagination take us into another world.
There was a time when some people’s lives were devoted simply to the cultivation of the land or the care of cattle. No multi-tasking there; their lives went on at a much gentler pace, and in a familiar pattern. There is much that we might envy about a way of life like this. Yet before we do so, we must think of the hard tasks our ancestors faced: they farmed with bare hands, often lived close to hunger, and had to fashion tools from wood and stone.Modern machinery has freed people from that primitive existence.
32. The new products become more and more time-saving because .
A. time is limited B. our love of speed seems never-ending
C. the prices are increasingly high D. the manufacturers boast a lot
33. What does “the days” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A. Simple life in the past. B. Imaginary life.
C. Times of inventions. D. Time for constant activity.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards the modern technology?
A. Objective. B. Critical. C. Optimistic. D. Negative.
35. What does the passage mainly discuss?
A. Machinery and human beings. B. The present and past times.
C. Imaginations and inventions. D. Modern technology and its influence.

As children, we grow up thinking that our parents are heroes and perfect, but as time goes on we come to realize that they are just as human as we are. However, a change in your knowledge of your father doesn’t have to be the end of your strong connection to him.
* 36 You thought that you knew exactly who your father was. Now that something has changed that, you feel shocked and lost. Whatever has caused this change in your knowledge has caused your father to never be the same in your life. 37
* Handle the anger. When the shock of this change of view wears off, you may slide into anger. Feeling angry at this point is natural but it is important that you deal with it appropriately and constructively. You don’t want to damage your other relationships, for example.
* Take some time to look in the mirror. This is a time for self-reflection. Has your father really changed? If so, why are his changes so hard for you to accept compared to those of other people in your life? 38
* Communicate. When you have a firm handle on your emotions, you need to communicate with your father. You need to speak to him about how you are dealing with this big change.
39 He may not even be aware of the change, because to himself he is simply human. Discuss things honestly.
* Rebuild. The relationship between your father and you as a child is gone. 40 Accept that it is gone and start building a different relationship with him. If you give it a chance, your new relationship will be truer, deeper and more loving than the one you had before.

Dear friends,
I’m glad to introduce myself to you
.___________________________
That’s all. Thank you.
(1)Good morning,/Good afternoon,everyone…
That’s all. Thank you.
( 2 )Good evening!Ladies and gentlemen..
That’s all. Thank you.
第一部分:开门见山提出本人要谈的问题及对问题的看法;
第二部分:说明理由,常见的关联词有:First of all , Secondly, Finally等;
In short, In a word…等。
Hello, everyone,
It is a great honor to be invited here today. Indeed, psychological health should be paid more attention to, because it has caused a lot of health problems.
Generally speaking, many experiences can disturb the psychological balance. Firstly, failing an exam is terrible news to you. Secondly, you may be anxious if you are under stress. In addition, you will break down when you are feeling lonely.
Therefore, I think you should look at problems from every aspect. Like a garden with weeds, the good side is below the bad side, and your just need to turn it over. Besides, you must distract your attention from the truth when you lose your balance. You can take exercise when you like or communicate with your good friends.
In a word, psychological health is of extraordinary significance. And I believe all of us can manage it very well as long as we face problems positively.
That’s all. Thank you for listening!
