Cancer researchers urged people on Wednesday to take more vitamin D to lower risk of cancer, saying studies showed a clear link. “Our suggestion is for people to increase their intake, through diet or a vitamin supplement. ” Dr.Cedric Garland said in a telephone interview.
Garland’s research team reviewed 63 studies, including several large long-term ones, on the relationship between vitamin D and certain types of cancer worldwide between 1966and 2004.
“There’s nothing that has this ability to prevent cancer,” he said, urging governments and public health officials to do more to fortify foods with vitamin D.Garland is part of a University of California at San Diego Moores Cancer Center team that published its findings this week online in the American Journal of Public Health . Vitamin D is found in milk, as well as in some fortified orange juice, yogurt and cheeses, usually at around 100 international units(IU) a serving People might want to consider a vitamin supplement to raise their intake to 1000 IUs per day, Garland said, adding that it was well within the safety guidelines established by the National Academy of Sciences.
The authors said that taking more vitamin D could be especially important for people living in northern areas, which receive less vitamin D from sunshine.
African Americans, who don´t produce as much of the vitamin because of their skin colour, could also benefit significantly from a higher intake, the authors said.

Students and Technology in the Classroom.
I love my blackberry---it's my little connection to the larger word that can go anywhere with me. I also love my laptop computer, as it holds all of my writing and thoughts .Despite this love of technology, I know that there are times when I need to move away from these devices and truly communicate with others.
On occasion, I teach a course called History Matters for a group of higher education managers.
My goals for the class include a full discussion of historical themes and ideas .Because I want students to thoroughly study the material and exchange their ideas with each other in the
classroom, I have a rule—no laptop, iPads, phones, etc. When students were told my rule in advance of the class ,some of them were not happy.
Most students assume that my reasons for this rule include unpleasant experiences in the past with students misusing technology. There's a bit of truth to that. Some students assume that I am anti—technology. There's on truth in that at all. I love technology and try to keep up with it so I can relate to my students.
The real reason why I ask students to leave technology at the door is that I think there are very few places in which we can have deep conversions and truly engage complex ideas. Interruptions by technology often break concentration and allow for too much dependence on outside information for ideas. I want students to dig deep within themselves for inspiration and ideas. I want them to push each other to think differently and make connections between the course the material and the class discussion.
I’ve been teaching my class in this way for many years and the evaluations reflect student satisfaction with the environment that I create. Students realize that with deep conversation and challenge, they learn at a level that helps them keep the course material beyond the classroom.
I’ m not saying that I won’t ever change my mind about technology use in my history class, but until I hear a really good reason for the change ,I’m sticking to my plan. A hours of technology-free dialogue is just too sweet to give up.
28. Some of the students in the history class were unhappy with
A. the author’s class rules B. others’ misuse of technology
C. discussion topics D. the course material
29.The underlined word“engage ”in para.4 probably means
A. refuse B. accept C. change D. explore
30.According to the author, the use of technology in the classroom may
A. encourage students to have in-depth conversations
B. keep students from doing independent thinking
C. help students to better understand complex themes
D. affect students’ concentration on course evaluation
31.It can be inferred from the last paragraph that the author
A. values technology-free dialogues in his class B. will give up teaching history
C. will change his teaching plan soon D. is quite stubborn.

When milk arrived on the doorstep.
When I was a boy growing up in New Jersey in the 1960s, we had a milkman delivering milk to our doorstep. His name was Mr.Basille .He wore a white cap and drove a white truck. As a 5-year-old boy, I couldn´t take my eyes off the coin changer fixed to his belt. He noticed this one day during a delivery and gave me a quarter out of his coin changer.
Of course, he delivered more than milk. There was cheese, eggs and so on. If we needed to change our order, my mother would pen a note-“Please add a bottle of buttermilk next delivery”-and place it in the box along with the empty bottles .And then, the buttermilk would magically appear.
All of this was about more than convenience. There existed a close relationship between families and their milkmen. Mr.Basille even had a key to our house, for those times when it was so cold outside that we put the box indoors, so that the milk wouldn´t freeze. And I remember Mr. Basille from time to time taking a break at our kitchen table, having a cup of tea and telling stories about his delivery.
There is sadly no home milk delivery today. Big companies allowed the production of cheaper milk thus making it difficult for milkmen to compete. Besides, milk is for sale everywhere, and it may just not have been practiced to have a delivery service.
Recently, an old milk box in the countryside I saw brought back my childhood memories. I took it home and planted it on the back porch. Every so often my son´s friends will ask what it is. So I start telling stories of my boyhood, and of the milkman who brought us friendship along with his milk.
32.Mr.Basille gave the boy a quarter out of his coin changer.
A. to show his magical power B. to pay for the delivery
C .to please his mother D. to satisfy his curiosity
33.What can be inferred from the fact that the milkman had the key to the boy´s house?
A. He wanted to have tea there. B. He was fully trusted by the family.
C. He was treated as a family member. D. He was a respectable person
34.Why does home milk delivery no longer exist?
A. It has been driven out of the market. B. Nobody wants to be a milkman now
C. Its service is getting poor. D. It is forbidden by law.
35.Why did the author bring back home an old milk box?
A. He planted flowers in it. B. He wanted to tell interesting stories.
C. He needed it for his milk bottles. D. He missed the good old days.

写作范文
At present, the problem of health has affected the study and life of students at Senior High. Some students have been aware of it, while others seem not.
To start with, some students stay up at night to study or play with their mobile phones. As a result, they can’t concentrate on what’s being taught in class. What’s worse, they may even fall asleep. Secondly, a few students don’t have a balanced diet. They may miss their breakfast or eat food containing much sugar or salt. Besides, they prefer the fat food and spend less time taking exercise, so they have problems with fatness. Last but not least, some boys smoke cigarettes without being seen and they are
likely to be addicted to it, which has a bad effect on them.
In conclusion, health is connected with a balanced diet and regular exercise. As students, we are supposed to have a normal lifestyle and concentrate on our study.
