It won an Oscar in 2006, and if you watch it, you’ll understand why. It’s an absolutely brilliant cartoon comedy.‎ Cheese-loving inventor Wallace and his brainy dog Gromit have started a company to protect the town’s vegetables from hungry rabbits. However, just before the annual Giant Vegetable Competition, an enormous rabbit begins terrorising the town. It is attacking all the vegetables and destroying everything in its path. The competition organizer, Lady Tottington, hires Wallace and Gromit to catch the monster alive. But they will have to find the were-rabbit before gun-crazy hunter Victor Quartermaine who is desperate to kill it.‎ The screenplay is witty and full of amusing visual jokes. As usual, the voice of Peter Sallis is absolutely perfect for the role of Wallace, and Gromit is so beautifully brought to life, he can express a huge range of emotions without saying a word. And both Helena Bonham-Carter, who plays the part of Lady Tottington, and Ralph Fiennes as Victor are really funny.‎ To sum up, The Curse of the Were-Rabbit is an amazing film which is suitable for both children and adults. If you liked Wallace and Gromit’s previous adventures and you appreciate the British sense of humour, you’ll love this film. Don’t miss it!‎ ‎56.According to the film review, “monster” (paragraph B) refers to ______.‎ A.a gun-crazy hunter B.a scary rabbit ‎ C.a brainy dog D.a giant vegetable ‎57.Which of the following is a reason why the writer recommends the film?‎ A.It’s full of wit and humour.‎ B.Its characters show feelings without words.‎ C.It is an adventure film directed by Peter Sallis.‎ D.It is about the harmony between man and animals.‎ B NEW YORK‎— Picking a Christmas tree takes most people a few minutes, or a couple of hours if they head for the woods. Dave Murbach needs 11 months.‎ ‎ Almost every day of every year, Murbach’s thoughts turn to vision of a perfectly shaped evergreen tree that will take everyone's breath away.‎ ‎ Murbach is the man responsible for finding the towering tree that makes more attractive Manhattan’s Rockefeller‎ ‎Center each Christmas season.‎ ‎ “I'm always looking for a tree,” the center's chief gardener says. “I look for it even when I go to the beach in the summer. It’s like a homework assignment hanging over your head.”‎ ‎ And if he gets it wrong, there's nothing hiding it.‎ ‎ “Every day it's up, 400,000 people go by, and 2.5 million people watch the lighting celebration on television,”he says.‎ ‎ This year’s tree, a 74-foot Nomy spruce (云杉) from Richfield, Ohio, flown to New York on the world's largest cargo plane, was lighted on December 2.‎ ‎ The arrival of the tree leads in the Christmas season in New York — a tradition dating back to 1931, when the workers building Rockefeller Center put up a small tree with ornaments. ‎ ‎ The search for the next year's tree starts soon after the old tree is chopped up for wood chips and horse-jumping logs.‎ ‎ Murbach has three standards: The tree must be at least 65 feet high, at least 35 feet across and leaves dense enough not to see through.‎ ‎ That's not as simple as it sounds. Though forests are full of evergreens, few get enough sunlight or space to fill out. And branches in snow regions often break under the weight, making ‎ trees unbalanced.‎ ‎ Back at the office, he sorts through hundreds of letters from people offering their trees, many addressed simply to “Mr. Christmas Tree Man.‎”‎ Though there was occasional anxiety attack and sleepless night, Murbach knows the effect the tree has on people: “It's for bringing people together, attempting to bring together people you love. That's what I hope it sets off.” But Murbach says he's always too worn out to celebrate Christmas.‎ ‎58. Which is the correct order of the events in the passage? ‎ a. Murbach’s thoughts turn to a perfectly shaped tree. ‎ b. 2.5 million people watch the Christmas tree. ‎ c. The tree is flown to New York. ‎ d. It was lighted on December 2. ‎ e. The tree is chopped up. ‎ f. Murbach searches for the tree. ‎ A. a, b, c, d, e, f B. c, d, b, f, e, a C. c, d, e, b, a, f D. a, f, c, d, b, e ‎59. Why does Murbach take his job seriously?‎ A. Because he wants everyone to be happy with his choice. ‎ B. Because he hopes to make everybody unable to breathe.‎ C. Because he enjoys showing off. ‎ D. Because he wishes to attract people's attention to himself.‎ ‎60. According to Murbach' s standard of trees, the best tree must _____.‎ ‎ A. be evergreen B. have lots of space between their branches C. be tall enough not to see through D. be equally balanced C In every society it is necessary to have a general system of laws to ensure justice. Laws are designed to make certain that people's rights are protected and that people respect each other's rights. Sometimes, however, laws are passed which are specific(明确的) to a time or situation. For example, a town in Indiana once passed a law making it illegal(非法的) to shoot open a can(罐头) of food. Apparently, some gun - carrying citizens(公民) forgot their can openers and naturally enough, used their guns to do the job. This disturbed other citizens, and endangered their lives, so a law was passed to prevent it. ‎ Specific laws sometimes remain in existence long after the problem has disappeared. The laws then seem strange. For example, the Indiana law was no longer necessary when citizens stopped carrying guns and using them as can openers. Since the law was no longer needed, what once made sense now seems like nonsense. ‎ Sometimes laws designed to serve a good purpose were passed but somehow these became mixed up in their wording. As a result, the laws don't make sense. In one state there is a law which says that it is "illegal to move or to attempt to move a motor vehicle. " Obviously, a massive traffic jam would occur if everyone suddenly obeyed that law. But no one does, of course, because the intention of the law was not to prevent owners from moving their own cars. It was to prevent people from moving (stealing) other people's cars. ‎ It is often harder to repeal (废止) a law than to pass one, so many of these old laws remain in existence. Because they no longer fit the way people live or because the problem no longer exists, these laws are ignored. Everyone understands that and life goes on. Thus, laws that once made ‎ very good senses now seem like nonsense. ‎ ‎61. According to the passage, laws are designed for the purpose of _____. ‎ A. protecting people's rights B. making people respect each other C. preventing gun-carrying D. punishing criminals ‎62. The author used the Indiana law as an example to explain ______. ‎ A. how some laws are passed and changed B. how people in Indiana open cans C. why some laws may seem strange D. why people in Indiana no longer use their guns ‎63. What's the problem with the law concerning motor vehicles?‎ A. It leads to traffic jams. B. It is not clearly written. ‎ C. It is not designed to serve a good purpose. D. It has been out of date. ‎ ‎64. We can conclude from the passage that _______. ‎ A. a law system is necessary for every society B. some laws that don't make sense may also get passed C. it is more difficult to change the old law than pass a new one ‎ D. some laws may seem strange as time passes D I stared down at the $14.86 left in my hand after paying the weekly rent for the small house we’d found. We had only a small amount of food in our kitchen. I wondered how I could have gotten my eight-year-old daughter and me to the point where we were so close to homelessness. I made one or two wrong assumptions about being able to find new employment. It seemed that I was on a ladder sliding downward, with no end in sight.‎ Staying here were single moms trying to escape from bad marriages, alcoholics and people who just seemed to have a hard time fitting in. I fell normal, so what was I doing here? More importantly, was there something these people could teach me about surviving until I could climb out of my difficult situation? I swallowed my pride and began to knock on doors. Whether they were single parents or travelers, I was told how to donate blood to earn a bit of money and how one family worked at a local temp(临时雇员) agency that paid daily. Doing everything they recommended allowed me to keep going.‎ The whole time I continued to go to interview after interview in search of a regular job. I landed a job as a receptionist. I saw all the business partners as they came and went. Whenever I had an opportunity to make any kind of a positive impression, whether offering to return calls, making reservations, recommending a solution to a caller’s problem or anything else, I did so. The effort paid off. My temp-to-perm job was lengthened for another two-week period. I was moved from the reception desk to the second assistant for one of the partners. This gave me the opportunity to see even more of what went on in the firm. I offered the executive assistant help in completing her work so that we could both go home at a more reasonable time.‎ Even though I knew it was rare for this firm to move anyone from a temporary position to a permanent one, I decided I’d do my job as if it were already mine. I organized the file. I set up a follow-up calendar(日程表). I made sure whatever was needed for meeting was there beforehand. I figured that if I could keep working there for over four months, I might have a chance.‎ I had been working there for eight weeks when the executive assistant became ill and was in hospital. Since she was expected back shortly, I offered to step in and do her tasks as well as my own task. Sadly, the executive assistant never did fully recover from her sickness. After working for six of the hardest months of my life, I was permanently offered her position. It provided ‎ benefits, stability and eventually the opportunity to move into a better and closer apartment. I worked for that firm for almost five years. I eventually took over the operation of a department and was promoted to the position of manager. Who could have imagined that?‎ My time as a nearly homeless person had given me new compassion(同情) for people in trouble. Instead of simply evicting(驱逐) everyone who couldn’t pay, my apartment developed an awarding-winning program which allowed them to work off their rents by providing needed services, such as cleaning, gardening or painting, somewhere in our apartment buildings.‎ I went on to have other corporate jobs, and I now live in my house. Whenever I see a person who needs help today, I wonder what his story is. And I try to offer him at least a warm cup of coffee or something to eat. Who knows, some day it might be me again. I’d like to think that someone would help me if they could. ‎ 65. According to Paragraph 1, what happened to the author?‎ A. She was out of work. B. She didn’t have any food to eat.‎ C. She hurt herself falling off a ladder. D. She couldn’t afford to pay the rent.‎ 66. The author knocked on other people’s doors in order to _____________.‎ A. borrow some money B. seek some advice C. ask for some basic necessities of life D. complain about the difficulties she was going through 67. The author was promoted to second assistant _____________‎ A. because of her well designed calendar B. because of her skill in dealing with people C. because she was self-motivated in the company D. because she offered the executive assistant great help 68. The “six of the hardest months of my life ” probably refers to the time when ___________‎ A. the author had alcohol problems.‎ B. the author had an increased workload.‎ C. the author was driven away from her apartment.‎ D. the author’s daughter was suffering from an illness.‎ 69. If people cannot pay the rent in the author’s apartment buildings, they _____________‎ A. will be forced to move out. B. will have to pay a heavy fine.‎ C. can do some work instead D. can get an allowance 70. What can we learn from the author’s experience?‎ A. He who laughs last laughs best. B. Wasting time is robbing oneself.‎ C. Gratitude is the sign of noble souls. D. The first elements of success is determination.‎ 第Ⅱ卷 非选择题(共三节, 满分35分)‎ 第二节 任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)‎ 请认真阅读下列短文,并根据所读内容在文章后表格的空格处填入一个最恰当的单词。注意:请将答案写在答题纸上相应题号的横线上,每个空格只填1个单词。‎ Atlantis, a beautiful and wealthy island, is supposed to have existed over 11, 000 years ago. It was in the middle of the vast Atlantic Ocean, and was a centre for trade. Its people were very wealthy and powerful. The rulers of Atlantis controlled their people and land, and their power spread to Europe and Africa. ‎ ‎ The weather was very good in Atlantis, and therefore people could grow food all year around. ‎ Many different kinds of vegetables, fruits and nuts grew there, and a lot of different animals lived on the island, including elephants. ‎ ‎ Atlantis was the home of Poseidon, the Greek God of the Sea. Poseidon had five sets of twin boys, who became the first rulers of Atlantis. The island’s many hills, fields and rivers were divided between the ten brothers. The eldest son, Atlas, was the first king of Atlantis. He controlled the island’s central hill and its surrounding area. ‎ ‎ At the top of the central hill, a temple was built in honor of Atlas’s father, Poseidon. Inside the temple was a huge gold statue of Poseidon. The rulers of Atlantis discussed laws in the temple. ‎ For centuries the people of Atlantis lived simple, honest and happy lives. However, over time they began to change. They enjoyed the power they had and desired more of it. When the God Zeus saw how corrupt (腐败) the people of Atlantis were, he was very angry and gathered the other gods together to decide on a punishment for them. The gods agreed with Zeus and decided to sink the island. Seemingly, it means a choice of concrete (具体的) things. But in fact, it means choosing a way of life. Life is to be lived and enjoyed, not to be wasted or complained about.‎ Hardly can we forget the time when our society faced the threat from the life-and death disease --- SARS. Yet, even during those dreadful times, some suffering people remained optimistic. Instead of wearing white masks, some people turned to colorful ones, and thus displayed a happy mood. And some creative people dubbed SARS to mean “SMILE AND REMAIN SMILING.” People who survive these kinds of circumstances decide in their minds to carry on in spite of the hardships.‎ Although we cannot choose our appearance, inborn gifts and even avoid unexpected disasters ‎ and adversities (逆境), we do have the right to choose to live optimistically, to love our lives, to have dreams, and to cherish hopes.‎ Every morning when we get up, we have a choice of how we want to approach life that day.‎ ‎【写作内容】‎ 1. 用约30个单词写出上文的概要;‎ 2. 用约120个词就“Our Life Depends on Our Choice” 谈谈你的看法和感受,内容包括:‎ ‎ (1)简要叙述你对“Our Life Depends on Our Choice”的理解;‎ ‎ (2)请举例说明你会选择怎样的人生态度;‎ ‎ (3)简要叙述你这样选择的理由。 Life, to some extent, rests on our choice. ‎ Life is full of ups and downs. When the time comes for us to make choices, we should be aware of the importance of a positive attitude. A positive attitude somehow resembles the sail of a ship, which offers us the right direction.‎ As a teenager, it is of great significance to take a positive attitude towards life. To stay energetic, I will stick to an exercise schedule. I will also keep myself informed of the current events and communicate more with others, becoming socially connected. ‎ All these mentioned above will be beneficial for me to grow into an optimistic and confident young man. Only by doing so can I adjust myself to society more easily and stay motivated towards a better life. (150 words)‎ 英语听力原文 Text 1 ‎ W: Why did you take all of the bowls out of the cupboard?
