第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

Can you believe that there used to be a consensus in society that opposed the writing of novels by authoresses?Clearly this restriction must have operated at a time when there was no equality of opportunity for women.Amazingly,it was generally held view only 100 years ago in England. In a strange contradiction, this period produced a couple of most courageous and gifted authoresses. Here are three of them.
Jane Austen(1775-1817)
All the six completed novels of Jane Austen deal with the problems and limitations of women’s choices. At her time, the only respectable “career”for a woman was to marry ,so the dilemma of her heroines’ was also to marry but for love. Besides the content, the appeal of her works also lies in her refreshingly light and
ironic style.
Charlotte Bronte(1816-1855)
Charlotte Bronte’s novels were revolutionary for the explicit way they described women struggling against their restricted roles in society. Her heroines are outspoken in expressing their feelings, while demonstrating honesty and conscience in their choices. Her novel,Jane Eyre, published under a man’s name, was very successful when ti came out.The book was a revelation after the more reserved feelings expressed in Jane Austen’s novels.
George Eliot(1819-1880)
Her novels examined the morally ambiguous concessions people make in their lives in order to succeed. In one of her books,Silas Marner, the hero discovers a little girl rejected by her own father. Her father did so for fear of losing his second wife’s love--a mistake for which the couple both suffer.
21.Why does the author describe the authoresses as”courageous”?
A.They were honest in expressing their opinions.
B.They broke the social restrictions on authoresses.
C.They fought against the law to publish their books.
22.The appeal of Jane Austen’s books mainly lies in____.
A.It dealt with concessions people made.
B.It was written by a man called George Eliot.
C.Its heroines are outspoken and honest.
23.What can we learn about the book Silas Marner?
A. It dealt with concessions people made.
B. It was written by a man called George Eliot.
C. It describes women struggling for equal rights.

When I first arrived to Barranquilla, the public transport system was a mystery to me. Seemingly, hundreds of huge, multicolored buses whizzed around. What's more, there seemed to be no stop signs, and therefore absolutely no indication of where the bus was going, or at what time it would arrived there. Now I know more about
the ways of Barranquilla buses, I thought it only fair to share this knowledge.
So, to start the decorations. The vehicle are painted all colors of the rainbow, and often have graffiti-style designs on the side. In fact, this type of graphic is so typical here that even a local design company took it and decided to make T-shirts with it.The inside is decorated according to the taste of the driver, with stickers quotations, names of family members, curtains and various items dangling from the ceiling.
At night time, the buses are covered with multicolored flashing lights enough for a good party atmosphere, coupled with the music from the driver’s stereo system, which is exactly what you get!
As for the destinations, no signs are needed ---these are often splashed across the front of the bus, with a card in the front window detailing more specific directions. If you see a bus passing your way and you want to get on, you stick out you hand and wave it about a bit, and the bus driver will slam on the brakes and wait for you before continuing on his way.
On the journey itself, there’s yet more fun to be had. Vendors(小商贩)often pass through the buses, trying to sell you sweets or water bags. There are also preachers, come to give you the sermon(布道)of the day in return for some small change. However, my favorite moment is when someone comes into the main street with a mini stereo and some rap music to entertain the crowd.
24.When the writer first arrived in Barranquilla. he/she______.
A.hated taking the bus B.got lost many times
C.was confused by the public transport D.shared the knowledge with the local people
25.The decorations of the vehicles are____.
A.colorful and personalized B.bright and humorous
C.old-fashioned and unusual D.practical and tasteful
26.How can you get on a bus in Barranquilla?
A.By using a stop sign. B.By raising a card.
C.by slamming on the brakes. D.By waving your hand.
27.What does the writer like best according to the last paragraph?
A.Sweets. B.Rap music. C.Small change. D.Water bags.

The word addiction usually makes you think of alcohol or drugs, but in modern-day society we are seeing some new kinds of addictions. Some find it impossible to pull themselves away from their work. Others spend countless hours watching TV or playing computer games. Still other are compulsive(难以自制的)shoppers.
Over the years, shopping has become a very common activity. Many people enjoy going to malls or stores more and more every day, but it’s more than a common hobby for some of them. They have turned into shopaholics. They are people who simply enjoy shopping and walking around spending money without being able to stop doing it. They are hooked on shopping and usually buy things that they don’t need. Even though they don’t have enough money, they buy everything they want.
The question is, why do they have this addiction There isn’t a specific answer. Some people go shopping when they are sad, worried, upset or lonely and they want to feel better. They use this activity as a way to forget their problems. Shopaholics say they feel more important and better after they buy something. They also tend to have this addition when they feel guilty.
Shopaholism seems to be a harmless addiction, but it can cause many problems.. Some of them can be psychological. If this is the case, people addicted to shopping should go to a support group to help them break this habit. However, the process, like for most addictions, is long, and they suffer a lot. It can also cause financial problems. They just think about satisfying their feelings, so they spend money they don’t have. They get deep in debt, and they can even go bankrupt and get sent to prison.

Space World theme park in the south-western Japanese city of Kitakyushu has had to close their winter attraction after it froze around 5000 fish into an ice rink(溜冰场).
The park, which is described as a “theme park all about space”, launched their “Frozen Port” exhibition in an attempt to educate people about marine life. As they skated over it. The Aquarium of Ice tempted people to visit by promising a world-first (possibly for a reason) experience of “gliding across the sea” while looking down on fish, crabs, stingrays and a whale shark.
But it seems they got a little out of their depth. Despite reported popularity since it’s opening on 12 November, the park received impassioned criticism on social media.
It could be to put down in part to the caption(说明文字) they used when sharing some pictures: "I am d... d... drowning, s ... s... suffocating."
In response, one commenter said the park was “disrespectful of life”, while another said it was displaying an “appalling lack of morality”. Still others urged the company to go out of business.
Asked if the theme park thought the “drowning” caption had any issues, an official replied: “Another employee wrote that hoping people would find it funny. But I do feel that not enough caution was taken. I apologize.”
According to management, the fish were already dead when they bought them,
sourced from markets and were chosen because they were unable to be sold.
Space World has decided to close the event and are considering holding an “appropriate religious service” once they have melted the rink – which could take over a week. Manager Toshimi Takeda said they have proposed to “hold a memorial service for the fish who worked hard for us” and then reuse them as fertilizer.
32.What’s the purpose of “Frozen Port”exhibition?
A.To encourage people to skate. B.To educate people about sea life.
C.To make skating more enjoyable. D.To look after sea animals.
33.What does the underlined sentence probably mean?
A.The water is not deep enough for the fish.
B.The exhibition is well received on social media.
C.People’s response is out of their expectation.
D.The program is not the first one in the world.
34.How did Toshimi Takeda feel about the “drowning”caption?
A.He felt sorry for the result. B.he took it as humor.
C.He blamed himself for carelessness. D.He was cautious about it.
35.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.The fish will be set free.
B.The theme park will be closed.
C.The fish should have been used as fertilizer.
D.The fish will be honored in a proper way.
