When the weather is good, most children would like to play outside. So we asked some kids and their parents whether the following toys kept them happy.
All Surface Swingball, $35.99
Played by Martin, nine, and five-year-old Alex in Crewe, Cheshire.
Mother Jennifer says, “The boys thought the toy was excellent and really wanted to play with it. It can be played with alone or with another child. It’s for the right age range but I believe the toy can be played with by all ages and is suitable for the whole family.”
Rubberwood Quoits Set, $13.99
Played by Jessica, four.
Mother Lucy Hayburst, 37, in Chichester, West Sussex, says, “Jessica played with this toy for a few minutes but quickly stopped playing with it. Since we bought this toy for her, she only played several times. The quality is very good. It can be played with by one child or more. Besides, I believe it’s more suitable for older kids.”
Wooden Animal Skittles, $14.99
Played by Matthew, two.
Father Richard Lee, 36, from Dartford, Kent, says, “Matthew was very interested in the toys and liked to play with them, but that only lasted for around five minutes. The skittles were fun at first but that feeling soon disappeared. Two or more children can play with the toy together. And I think they are most suitable for kids aged between three and seven. Our youngest son, Ethan, just kept trying to eat the lion’s head.”
First Tailball Net Set, $22
Played by James, five.
Mother Sarah Schwar, 39, from Grays, Essex, says, “James loved the toy.” He enjoyed balls so it was perfect for him. We used it in the summer as it was easy to take on trips. It is suitable for kids over five years old. I think the price is fair and your children deserve it.”
21. What did Jessica think of Rubberwood Quoits Set?
A. Frightening. B. Expensive.
C. Wonderful. D. Boring
22. Which toys are suitable for kids aged three?
A. Wooden Animal Skittles & First Taiball Net Set.

B
“Now stretch(伸展) over your right leg!” My dance teacher yells over the music. “If it doesn't hurt, you're not trying hard enough. Hold that stretch for 30 seconds!” My dance teacher works hard to form us into the dancers we desire to be. In order for this to occur, we stretch hard a lot!
Dancing is a real passion of many people, including me. I work hard to make myself better, and prove that I am good enough. Performing a dance routine is more than just a performance. Dancers tell stories when they dance. It is a way for us to express our personal feelings. Just letting go and letting your body move with the music can create your emotions. Dance tells us things that our mind secretly hides.
“Get up and do it again! You need to keep your spirits up!” Even though I am completely worn out after my dances, I love to hear those words. It gives me a sense of relief knowing that I can again express my feelings out on the floor.
“Practice makes perfect! Come on. We have a competition this weekend, and we need to work harder!” Competitions are the best possible example of fun. For a dancer, life cannot get better than competitions. The thrill of losing yourself onstage is a rush of energy rushing through your body! The feeling is unexplainable. As you sit there putting on your makeup, fixing your hair, and putting on your costume, the rush just gradually grows until it is ready to be released onstage.
Finally the time comes to tell your story. Standing backstage waiting for your name to be called is one of the scariest moments. You are ready to show the world what you are capable of and what you have been perfecting for a while. Once your number is called, you walk out onstage. The applause at the end tells each dancer that their story has been received, and that the dance has been brought to life.
24. What does the author's dance teacher require her to do during the dance class?
A. Build up her confidence. B. Keep encouraged and cheerful.
C. Train her body to the fullest. D. Understand the music.
25. How does the author understand dancing according to the text?
A. It is a good way to release stress.
B. It takes talent, confidence and patience to dance well.
C. It is no more than a performance with our bodies.
D. It is a way to show our personal emotions.
26. As far as the author is concerned, a dance competition means____
A. an improvement in her life.
B. an opportunity to have fun.
C. a reflection of her perfect thoughts.
D. a way to experience the scariest moment
27. What would be the best title for the text?
A. Bringing dance to life B. Training for competitions
C. Dancers' special feelings D. Encouragement from my teacher
C
“You’re never too old, too wacky(古怪的), too wild, to pick up a book and read with a child.” That’s the message the National Education Association hopes to get out during this year’s Read across America celebration. The event is held on March 2 to celebrate the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. But the festivities aren’t limited to one day. From February 26 through March 4, students, teachers, and families nationwide will be lost in the joy of reading.
Read across America began 19 years ago as a way to get kids excited about reading. “You have this magical thing happen when an adult sits with a kid and turns the pages, and reads in a funny voice, and you giggle together,” Lily Eskelsen Garcia, the NEA president, told TFK. “The whole point is making it fun, not for the next test, not because it’s something they have to memorize or something they have to struggle with. Just sit and read for fun.
That fun involves celebrating the funny characters created by Dr. Seuss. This year, Southwest Airlines is one of the sponsors of Read across America. Flight attendants on some Southwest flights will wear red-and-white top hats, like The Cat in the Hat does, to spread awareness about the event. NEA representatives will accompany special guests Thing 1, Thing 2 and the cat (the three main characters in the book) to schools and community centers in six cities. They will bring books, costumes, activities, and more, all to help kids see that reading can be a very enjoyable experience.
Kids can celebrate Read across America with any book. But in honor of Dr. Seuss, they might want to pick up his most recently-published work “What Pet Should I Get?”. It was discovered 20 years after Dr. Seuss’s books, “What Pet Should I Get?” incorporates rhymes, humor, and familiar Seussian illustrations. In it, a brother and a sister visit a pet shop and have trouble choosing just one animal to bring home.
28. What is the aim of the Read across America celebration?
A. To make kids love reading.
B. To improve kids’ reading skills.
C. To honor teachers who read for kids.
D. To honor writers who write stories for kids.
29. What may we know about from what Lily Eskelsen Garcia said in paragraph 2?
A. The popularity of the event. B. The way of holding the event.
C. The progress of the event. D. The significance of the event.
30. What will the flight attendants of Southwest Airlines do in order to spread awareness about the
event?
A. Read for the passengers.
B. Wear red-and-white top hats.
C. Sell Dr Seuss’s books at the airport.
D. Give books to the passengers for free.
31. Which of the following can describe the book “What Pet Should I Get?”?
A. It is a book made up of love stories.
B. We can get advice on parenting from the book.
C. The writing style is similar to Dr Seuss’s other books.
D. Teachers can learn about teaching methods from the book.
D
Over the next decade, technology will decimate more jobs in many professions.
Some robots already cost less to operate than the salaries of the humans they replace, and they are getting cheaper. Boston Consulting Group predicts that, by 2025, the operating cost of a robot that does welding(焊接) will be less than $2 per hour, for example. That's more affordable than the $25 per hour that a human welder earns today in America.
Uber and many other companies are working on developing cars and trucks that don't need a driver in the driver's seat. According to the American Trucking Associations, approximately 3 million truck drivers were employed in the United States in 2010, and 6. 8 million others were employed in other jobs relating to trucking activity. So roughly one of every 15 workers in the country is employed in the trucking business. We could be talking about millions of jobs disappearing in the early 2020s.
And then there is “the Gig Economy(零工经济)” that has some businesses moving toward part-time, on-demand employment. Uber has already done this to taxi drivers, and other technology companies are doing it to a wide range of jobs. A study by Intuit predicted that, by 2020, 400% of American workers will be self-employed, and that full-time jobs will be harder to find. We are talking about 60 million people in this category. The problem is that not only do such part-time workers lack reliable full-time jobs and sick pay, but they can't enjoy health insurance and longer-term benefits.
$ The measures to be taken are to raise trade barriers. But closing the doors to foreign trade won't bring jobs back. It will only slow the global economy and hurt American exports, shrinking the U. S. economy and accelerating job loss.
32. The underlined word “decimate” in Paragraph l can be replaced by“________”.
$来 A. make someone interested in B. equip someone for
C. wipe out D. bring back
33. What will happen with technologies developing according to the text?
A. Robots will become smarter and smarter.
B. Uber's labor cost will be lower and lower.
C. More and more truck drivers will be needed.
D. Taxi drivers can enjoy more insurance health.
34. Which of the following does the writer agree on?
A. Welcoming foreign trade. B.Offering more part-time jobs.
C. Using fewer robots to stop job loss. D.Developing more new technologies.
35. What's the writer's main purpose in writing the text?
A. To show technology advances in our daily life.
B. To prove technologies cause low incomes.
C. To introduce what the Gig Economy is.
D. To warn the Gig Economy is coming.
第二节 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项.
EAT YOUR VEGETABLES. Wash your hands. Always say “please” and “thank you”. We are full of such advice for our children. 36 As a result, our children may grow up with clean hands and good manners, but without any idea how to manage their money.
Here are some basics that will help guide them in their entire lives:
Show them the future. If your 13-year-old girl were to save $1,000, invest it at 8% and add $100 every month, by the time she’s 65, she would have $980,983!
Be careful of credit. Credit cards can help you buy necessary things and build a credit history, but they must be used responsibly. 37 Explain to your children that when you buy using a credit card, you can easily end up paying two or three times what you would have paid if you used cash.
38 Suppose your child wants a new bicycle that costs $150. Rather than paying the cash, give him some regular pocket money and explain that by putting aside, say, $15 a week, he will be able to buy it for himself in only ten weeks.
Explain your values. 39 When your child demands that you buy something, explain why you really don’t want to buy it. You might say, “I'd rather save that money for your education”.
40
A. Every time you spend or don’t spend money, you have a chance to share your values.
B. Provide encouragement.
C. That means paying off your debt in time.
D. Teach patience.
E. Values and money are deeply interdependent.
F. But when it comes to money, we often have little to say.
G. Tell your children the importance of saving.

One of my classmates recommended a quote to me, who goes like this: “The best preparation for tomorrow is doing your best today.” I can’t agree with this view. It’s true that almost everyone hopes for the better tomorrow such as a well-paid job and a happy family. To make this dream be come true, we are supposed to seize the present moment. In other word, we must take action right
now for a bright future.
Take Ma Yun for example. Shortly after quitting his job from college, he started a small firm focused on e-business for he longed to become a well-known businessman in the future. Despite the fact that he meets with many difficulties at the very beginning, he made up his mind but seized every single day to realize his dream. Finally, his hard work paid back. He succeeded at last. In a word, I firm hold the belief that if you do your best today you are sure to have a bright future.

W: Oh yeah, it’s entertaining to watch. You should go to see it.
Text 4

M: I’d love to, but can it wait until after lunch? I’m in the middle of something right now.
W: Of course it can wait, just as long as I can use it in the evening.

W: OK. Thanks. I really appreciate it.
Text 7
W: So, what are you going to do for your birthday?
M: Well, I was hoping to have a party but most of my friends are too busy. Instead of going out for a meal with my parents, I’ve accepted my sister’s offer to take me to a film.

M: I wish I were the person who got an A on the last test. She didn’t miss a question on the paper. Umm ... was it Elizabeth?

her a call?

Text 10
M: Sally Myers is a thirteen-year-old writer whose first book was published last year. Sally, tell us about that book.
W: Well, I loved writing. I had a diary for a couple of years. I wrote about my day, poems and stories. But I never showed people what I wrote. Then, because my penfriend was moving to a new city with her family — just like I’d done the year before — I wrote down some advice for her — things which had helped me. She thought it was great and said I should write a little book about it for other children. So I did. I only showed it to my dad after it was finished. He thought it was good, but he tried to stop me sending it to any publishers. He thought I’d feel disappointed if they didn’t like it. So, I sent it to just one company to see what they’d say. I did a search on the Internet and found that only a few publishers published this kind of book. I just e-mailed one of them the book. The next morning my parents got a phone call from them. They wanted to publish mine. Mum was really calm and businesslike on the phone, but as soon as she put it down she was like jumping up and down with excitement. She’d told me that this kind of thing just never happened, and I’d believed her, so I was too shocked to feel anything at first. Then my dad started worrying about what would happen in the future. But everything was OK in the end.
