The most important holiday in spring, especially for Christians (基督徒), is Easter. This Christian holiday is not on the same date every year, but it’s always on a Sunday. It can be any Sunday between March 22 and April 25. Many people celebrate Easter by buying new clothes. Children celebrate by hunting for colored eggs that their parents have hidden around the house. People also give Easter baskets filled with candy and other goodies to one another to celebrate the day.
But the holiday is more than new clothes and good things to eat. On Easter, many people go to church to celebrate Jesus’ resurrection (复活) from the dead.
Most people color them. Some people hide them. Others just eat them. But no matter what one does with Easter eggs, they are an important Easter tradition throughout the Western world.
People from many different cultures celebrate Easter. In both America and Belgium, children look for Easter eggs hidden on lawns and in bushes. In America, children believe the eggs are hidden by the Easter bunny (复活节兔子). But in Belgium, the hidden eggs are supposed to have fallen from church bells.
In Bulgaria, red Easter eggs are lucky in churches; Bulgarian families also hit these Easter eggs together to see whose is the strongest. The winner looks forward to good fortune that year.
Still dozens of other Easter traditions exist. In parts of Austria, for example, children sing from door to door and are rewarded with colorful eggs.

We’ve all had that moment when we are in the middle of sorting old clothes, or walking down the street and passing a restaurant, or someone hugs you and their pleasant smell go slightly and you’re instantly transported to a past memory or you feel an emotional response to that smell.
For me, the smell of bubble bath will always make me think of long soaps in the big claw-footed bath and my grandma’s house in the UK! If this sounds like you too, there is a reason for it. Psychologist Sabina Read explains, “Fragrance is commonly linked to our mood and behavior via learned emotional responses associated with smells and past experiences. If we smell roses while visiting a sick loved one in
hospital, the smell may arouse sadness or grief (哀伤); however if we first smell roses after giving birth, we will most likely associate that smell with feelings of joy and love. Therefore fragrance plays a powerful role in mood and emotion across our life.”
And it’s this understanding which Imperial Leather has used in creating their new fragrance range. The brand undertook a survey of 2,200 Australians on fragrances and smells --- and some of the results might surprise you.
* A huge 97 percent of people feel more confident just by wearing a fragrance.
* Women feel most attractive wearing a floral (花香的) scent.
* Floral fragrances are the most attractive scent with men voting it as their favorite scent for a partner.
* Over half the nation, 51 percent have used the same fragrance for five years or more.

C. the big claw-footed bath calls up the memory of his grandma’s house
D. Imperial Leather conducted a survey to create their new fragrance range
7. What would be the best title for the passage?
A. The Truth Behind Fragrances and Feelings
B. Smell Associated with Emotion
C. A Survey by Imperial Leather
D. My Past Memory of Smell
8. What can you do if you want to make yourself attractive?
A. Wear some old clothes full of memories.

Time spent in a bookshop can be most enjoyable, whether you are book-lover or only there to buy a book as a present. You may even have entered the shop just to find a shelter from a sudden shower. Whatever the reason is, you can soon be totally unaware of your surroundings. You soon become attracted in some books or others, and usually it is only much later that you realize you have spent too much time there and must dash off to keep some forgotten appointments.
This opportunity to escape the realities of everyday life is the main attraction of a bookshop.
A music shop is very much like a bookshop. You can wander round such a place to your heart’s content. If it is a good shop, no assistant will approach you with the greeting “Can I help you?” You needn’t buy anything you don’t want. In a bookshop an assistant should remain in the back ground until you have finished reading. Then, and only then, are his services necessary.
Once a medical student had to read a text book which was far too expensive for him to buy. He couldn’t obtain it from the library and the only copy he could find was in a certain bookshop. Every afternoon, therefore, he would go along to the shop and read a little of the book at a time. One day, however, he was disappointed to find the book missing from its usual place. He was about to leave, when he noticed the owner of the shop beckoning to him. Expecting to be told off, he went towards him. To his surprise, the owner pointed to the book which was tucked away in a corner. “I put it there in case anyone was tempted to buy it!” he said, and left the delighted student to continue his reading.
9.According to the passage ,the main attraction of a bookshop is ______ .
A. the chance to get free from the reality B. learning something from the books
C. a shelter from a sudden shower D. the surrounding of books
10.The writer thinks that the assistant in a bookshop should ______.
A. greet customers pleasantly and warmly
B. not disturb the customers when they read
C. help the readers to find what they want
D. not stay in the background all the time
11.The purpose of writing the third paragraph is to_______.
A. tell us a story about a bookshop
B. teach us to read in shops without buying books
C. support the main idea of the passage
D. teach us to help people whenever we can
D
We once had a poster competition in our fifth grade art class.
“You could win prizes,”our teacher told us as she wrote the poster information on the blackboard. She passed out sheets of construction paper while continuing,“The first prize is ten dollars. You just have to make sure that the words on the blackboard appear somewhere on your poster. ”
We studied the board critically. Some of us looked with one eye and held up certain colors against the blackboard, rocking the sheets to the right or left while we conjured up our designs. Others twisted their hair around their fingers or chewed their erasers while deep in thought. We had plans for that ten—dollar grand prize, each and every one of us. I'm going to spend mine on candies, one hopeful would announce, while another practiced looking serious, wise and rich.
Everyone in the class made a poster. Some of us used parts of those fancy paper napkins, while others used nothing but colored construction paper. Some of us used big designs, and some of us preferred to gather our art tidily down in one comer of our poster and let the space draw the viewer's attention to it. Some of us would wander past the good students’ desks and then return to our own projects with a growing sense of hopelessness. It was yet another grown-up trick of the soil they seemed especially fond of, making all of us believe we had a fair chance, and then always—always—rewarding the same old winners.
I believe I drew a sailboat, but I can’t say that with any certainty. I made it. I admired it. I determined it to be the very best of all of the posters I had seen, and then I turned it in.
Minutes passed.
No one came along to give me the grand prize, and then someone distracted
me,and I probably never would have thought about that poster again.
I was still sitting at my desk, thinking,What poster? When the teacher gave me an envelope with a ten-dollar bill in it and everyone in the class applauded for me.
12. What was the teacher's requirement for the poster?
A. It must appear in time.
B. It must be done in class.
C. It must be done on a construction sheet.
D. It must include the words on the blackboard.
13. The underlined phrase in paragraph 3 most probably means _____________.
A. formed an idea for
B. made an outline for
C. made some space for
D. chose some colors for
14. After seeing the good students’ designs, some students _________.
A. 1oved their own designs more
B. thought they had a fair chance
C. put their own designs in a comer
D. thought they would not win the prize
15. We can infer from the passage that the author ______________.
A. enjoyed grown-up tricks very much
B. 1oved poster competitions very much
C. felt surprised to win the competition
D. became wise and rich after the competition

Six Ways to Improve Reading Comprehension
Help your child keep what he reads—a crucial skill, especially as he gets older and needs to gain important information from textbooks.
Have him read aloud. This forces him to go slower, which gives him more time to process what he reads. 16
Provide the right kinds of books. Make sure your child gets lots of practice reading books that aren’t too hard. 17 Stopping any more often than that to figure out a word makes it tough for him to focus on the overall meaning of the story.
18 To gain meaning from text, your child needs to read quickly and smoothly—a skill known as fluency. Rereading familiar, simple books gives your child practice at decoding words quickly so he'll become more fluent.
Talk to the teacher. If your child is struggling hard with comprehension, he may need more help with his reading—for example, building his vocabulary or practicing phonics skills.
Supplement class reading. If his class is studying a particular theme, look for easy-to-read books or magazines on the topic. Some prior knowledge will make his way through tougher classroom texts.
Talk about what he's reading. This “verbal processing” helps him remember and think through the themes of the book. 19 For example:
●Before: “What interests you in this book? What doesn't?”
●During: “ 20 Is it turning out the way you thought it would? ”
●After: “Can you summarize the book? What did you like about it?”
A. Reread to build fluency.
B. What's going on in the book?
C. Look up new words in the dictionary.
D. Do you know all the characters in the story?
E. Ask questions before, during, and after a reading session.
F. Plus, he's not only seeing the words, he's hearing them, too.
G. He should recognize at least 90 percent of the words without any help.

Dear Sir/Madam,
I have read your advertisement in the newspaper. You mentioned in it that your instructors are fully qualified and you ensure that learners will be able to swim well after one week’s training.
I can swim a little but I’m not very confident in the water. So I’m interested in taking part in the training course. Fortunately, the summer holiday is around the corner. I’m writing to inquire when and where the course will be given, and how long the training course will last each day.
I also want to know how much you will charge me for that.Besides, would you be so kind as to tell me whether there is anything special that should be prepared or does your company
