Are there any foreigners in your city? How do you address(称呼) them in English when you want to talk to these foreigners? The following may be some simple rules the beginners should follow.
1. When talking to strangers there is often no special form of address in English. In most cases, if you want to catch the attention of a stranger it is necessary to use such phrases as “Excuse me”.
2. In British English “Sir” and “Madam” are considered to be too formal for most situations. They are used mostly to customers in shops or restaurants .While in American English “Sir” and “Madam” are not so formal and are commonly used between strangers, especially with older people whose names you don’t know.
3. When you talk to some people you know, you can use their names directly. If you are friends, use their first names; if your relationship is more formal, use “Mr.”, “Mrs.”, “Ms.”, etc, before their family names.
4. There are many other forms of address which can be used between friends and strangers. However, many of these are limited in use. For example, “pal” and “mate” can be used between strangers, but are usually only used by men talking to other men.
If you meet foreigners, do remember not to address them in wrong ways.

The United States is full of cars. There are still many families without cars, but some families have two or more. However, cars are used for more than pleasure. They are a necessary part of life.
Cars are used for business. They are driven to offices and factories by workers who have no other way to get to their jobs. When salesmen are sent to different parts of the city, they have to drive in order to carry their products. Farmers have to drive into the city in order to get supplies.
Sometimes small children must be driven to school. In some cities school buses are used only when children live more than a mile away from the school. When the children are too young to walk too far, their mothers take turns driving them to school. One mother drives on Mondays taking her own children and the neighbors' as well. Another mother drives on Tuesdays, another on Wednesday, and so on. This is called forming a car pool. Men also form car pools, with three or four men taking turns driving to the place where they all work.
More car pools should be formed in order to put fewer cars on the road and use less gas. Too many cars are being driven. Something will have to be done about the use of cars.
4.The United States is filled with cars, but .
A. not every family has a car
B. few families have two cars or even more
C. every American has a car
D. every family has a car

Nearly everyone is bullied (欺负) at some time in their lives. If you are being bullied, you may feel scared, but you owe it to yourself to try and sort out the situation so that the bullying stops.
It is surprising that all sorts of people who are now very successful adults were bullied when they were young. It is encouraging to know that it is possible to succeed, in spite of being bullied at school. All of these well–known people were bullied at school: Phil Collins, Harrison Ford, Tom Cruise and many others.
WHAT CAN I DO IF I AM BEING BULLIED?
If your school has an anti–bullying system, use it to get help. If you’re not sure how it works, then talk to a teacher. Some schools ignore bullying, but don’t become resigned (听天由命) to being a victim. You can still help yourself and ask others to help you.
Tell a friend what is happening. Ask him or her to help you. It will be harder for the bully to pick on you if you have a friend with you for support.
Don’t fight back if you can avoid it. Most bullies are bigger or stronger than you. If you fight back you could make the situation worse, get hurt or be blamed for starting the trouble.
Try to avoid being alone in the places where you know the bully is likely to pick on you. This might mean changing your route to school, avoiding parts of playground, or only using common rooms when other people are there.
Keep a diary of what is happening. Write down the details of the incidents and your feelings. When you do decide to tell someone, a written record of the bullying makes it easier to prove what has been going on.
8.What could be the best title of the passage?
A.What to do if bullied
B.How bullying occurs
C.Fight back when bullied
D.Bullying—whose fault?
9.From the first two paragraphs we can infer that_____ .
A.bullying seldom happens among people
B.bullying is very common among people
C.well–known people used to be bullied when young
D.ordinary people are not likely to be bullied
10. When would a person be likely to be bullied?
A.When he is with a friend.
B.When he is going home by himself.
C.When in a room full of people.
D.When he is playing on the playground.
11. By writing down the details of the incidents, you can______
A.change the bad situation
B.avoid being bullied
C.easily prove what is happening
D.make the bully scared

How to Relax Ourselves
Faced with heavy learning burdens, many of us students often feel tired both physically and mentally. If the situation continues, it will affect our life and study.
Because of this, we are supposed to learn to relax ourselves. As you know, there are various ways to relax ourselves, such as watching TV, surfing the Internet and traveling.
As for me, I prefer surfing the Internet in my spare time. For one thing, the Internet provides me with many activities for relaxation. Sometimes ,I play computer games to relax myself. For another, the Internet helps me make friends with people at home and abroad. Furthermore, the vivid pictures on the Internet can greatly refresh me when I feel tired.
