So she asked her mother if she would buy it for her, and her mother said, “Well, it is a pretty necklace, but it costs an awful lot of money. Still I'll buy it for you, and when we get home we can make up a list of chores that you can do to pay for the necklace.” Jenny agreed, and her mother bought the pearl necklace for her.‎ Jenny worked on her chores very hard every day and soon paid off the pearls. How Jenny loved those pearls! She wore them everywhere to kindergarten and bed.‎ Jenny had a very loving daddy. When Jenny went to bed, he would read Jenny her favorite story. One night when he finished the story, he said, “Jenny, do you love me?”‎ ‎“Oh yes, Daddy, you know I love you.”‎ ‎“Well, then, give me your pearls.”‎ ‎“Oh! Daddy, not my pearls!” Jenny said. “But you can have Rosy, my favorite doll. And you can have her tea party outfit, too. Okay?”‎ ‎“Oh no, darling, that’s okay.” Her father kissed her cheek. “Good night, little one.”‎ A week later, her father once again asked Jenny after her story, “Do you love me?”‎ ‎“Oh yes, Daddy, you know I love you.”‎ ‎“Well, then, give me your pearls.”‎ ‎“Oh, Daddy, not my pearls! But you can have Ribbons, my toy horse. You can have Ribbons if you want her, Daddy.”‎ ‎“No, that’s okay,” her father said and kissed her. “Sweet dreams, little one.”‎ Several days later, when Jenny’s father came in to read her a story, Jenny was sitting on her bed and her lip was trembling(颤抖). “Here, Daddy,” she said, and held out her hand. She opened it and her beloved pearl necklace was inside. She let it slip into her father’s hand.‎ With one hand her father held the plastic pearls and the other he pulled out of his pocket a blue box. Inside of the box were real, genuine, beautiful pearls. He was waiting for Jenny to give up the cheap stuff so he could give her the real thing.‎ 24. Why did Jenny’s mother ask Jenny to do some chores?‎ A. Because the necklace was too expensive.‎ B. Because Jenny was a lazy child who needed to work more.‎ C. Because she wanted Jenny to work hard for what she wanted.‎ D. Because Jenny’s father didn’t like the necklace.‎ ‎25. How would you describe Jenny according to this passage?‎ A. Understanding and loving. B. Loving and clever.‎ C. Selfless and naughty. D. Lazy and selfish.‎ ‎26. What does the underlined sentence imply?‎ A. Jenny loved her necklace so much.‎ B. Jenny didn’t enjoy the story.‎ C. Jenny’s father looked terrifying.‎ D. Jenny didn’t love her father enough.‎ ‎27. What was Jenny’s father trying to tell her?‎ A. Obey your parents and you can get what you want.‎ B. You should always respect your parents.‎ C. Sometimes you may get more if you can give first.‎ D. Don’t be selfish to your own parents.‎ C No poem should ever be discussed or “analyzed”, until it has been read aloud by someone, teachers or students. Better still, perhaps, is the practice of reading it twice, once at the beginning of the discussion and once at the end, so the sound of the poem is the last thing one hears of it.‎ All discussions of poetry are, in fact, preparations for reading it aloud, and the reading of the poem is, finally the most telling “interpretation” of it, suggesting tone, rhythm, and meaning all at once. Hearing a poet read the work in his or her own voice, on records or on film, is obviously a special reward. But even those aids to teaching cannot replace the student and teacher reading it or, best of all, reciting(背诵) it.‎ I have come to think, in fact, that time spent reading a poem aloud is much more important than “analyzing” it, if there isn’t time for both. I think one of our goals as teachers of English is to have students love poetry. Poetry is “a criticism of life” and “a heightening(提升) of life”. It is “an approach to the truth of feeling”, and it can save your life. It also deserves(值得) a place in the teaching of language and literature more central than it now occupies.‎ I am not saying that every English teacher must teach poetry. Those who don’t like it should ‎ not be forced to put that dislike on anyone else. But those who do teach poetry must keep in mind a few things about its essential nature, about its sound as well as its sense, and they must make room in the classroom for hearing poetry as well as thinking about it.‎ ‎28. To have a better understanding of a poem, one should_________.‎ A. discuss it with others B. analyze it by oneself C. copy it down in a notebook D. practise reading it aloud ‎29. According to the writer, one of the aims of teaching English is to get students_________.‎ A. to understand life B. to enjoy poetry C. to become teachers D. to become poets ‎30. What can be inferred from the passage?‎ A. Every English teacher should teach poetry.‎ B. The teaching of poetry should be stressed more.‎ C. Reading a poem is as important as analyzing it.‎ D. Discussion should be the first step of teaching poetry.‎ ‎31. The underlined phrase “make room” in the last paragraph can be replaced by “_______”.‎ A. build a room B. provide equipment C. leave some time D. save some space D Kelly Reeves was getting ready for a trip when her phone slipped into a sink full of water. Panic moment! She quickly picked up the wet phone and tried to turn it on, but nothing worked. Her first reaction? She got dressed, drove to the nearest store, and bought a new model at full price.‎ A new study finds that fear of losing your phone is a common illness. About 66 percent of those surveyed suffer from nomophobia or “no mobile phone phobia”. Interestingly, more women worry about losing their phone than men.‎ Fortunately, there’s a solution.‎ The first step is to figure out if you have nomophobia. Checking your phone too often is one thing, but the true sign of a problem is that you can’t conduct business or go about your routine when the fear becomes so severe.‎ Do you go to unusual lengths to make sure you have your phone? That’s another sign of a problem. If you find you check your phone plenty of times per hour, or a total of an hour per day, there may be a problem.‎ Some of the treatments are similar to those for treating anxiety attacks: Leaving the phone behind and not checking e-mail or text messages, and then learning to tolerate the after anxiety. Even if this leads to a high level of worry and stress, the solution is to push through the fear and learn to deal with not having your phone.‎ Of course, there are also technological alternatives. Luis Levy, a co-founder at Novy PR, says he uses an application called Cerberus that can automatically track the location of his phone. To find it, he can just go to a Web site and see the phone’s location.‎ He also insures his phone through a service called Asurion. The company’s description of its product reads like a prescription for anxiety: “60 million phones are lost, stolen or damaged each year. You’ll have complete peace of mind knowing that your phone is protected and you can quickly reconnect with family, friends and work, as soon as the very next day!”‎ ‎32. Why does the author mention Kelly’s experience in the first paragraph?‎ A. To inform us that mobile phones are useful.‎ B. To introduce the topic for discussion.‎ C. To tell us we should get phones ready for a trip.‎ D. To warn us that we should be careful with phones.‎ ‎33. Which of the following is a way to treat nomophobia?‎ A. Avoiding using phone for some time.‎ B. Learning more about modern technology.‎ C. Not using a mobile phone in one’s daily work.‎ D. Protecting one’s phone against any damage.‎ ‎34. How does Asurion help to treat nomophobia?‎ A. It will give you a new phone through insurance.‎ B. It lets you know other people also lose their phones.‎ C. It gives you a prescription to treat nomophobia.‎ D. It enables you to reconnect with the people you know.‎ ‎35. What is the passage mainly about?‎ A. New mobile phone technology. B. Attitude toward mobile phone.‎ C. Solutions to nomophobia. D. Disadvantages of mobile phones.‎ 第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)‎ 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。‎ Coca-Cola is probably the most famous brand in the world.
