“How do you account for your remarkable achievements in life?”Queen Victoria of the UK asked Helen Keller. “How do you explain the fact that even though you were both blind and deaf, you were able to achieve so much?”
Ms.Keller's answer is a tribute(致敬)to her kind teacher.“If it had not been for Anne Sullivan, the name of Helen Keller would have remained unknown.”
According to speaker Zig Ziglar,Annie Sullivan was no stranger to hardship. She was almost sightless herself and was,at one time, diagnosed as hopelessly “insane” by her caregivers. She was locked in the basement of a mental institution.Occasionally,Annie would violently attack anyone who came near. Most of the time she generally ignored everyone in her presence.
An elderly nurse believed there was hope, however, and she made it her work to show love to the child.Every day she visited Annie, and she left cookies for her and spoke words of love and encouragement. She believed Annie could recover,if only she were shown love.
Eventually, doctors noticed the change in the girl.Where they once witnessed anger and hate, they naw noted a gentleness and love. They moved her upstairs where she continued to improve. Then the day finally came when this seemingly “hopeless” child was released.
Anne Sullivan grew into a young woman with a desire to help others as she, herself, was helped by the kind nurse. It was she who saw the great potential in Helen Keller. She loved her, disciplined(约束)her, played with her, pushed her and worked with her until the flickering
candle that was her life became a beacon(灯塔)of light to the world.Anne Sullivan worked wonders in Helen's life;but in was a loving nurse who first believed in Little Annie and lovingly transformed an uncommunicative child into a kind teacher.
“If it had not been for Anne Sullivan, the name of Helen Keller would have remained unknown.”But if it had not been for a kind and dedicated nurse, the name of Anne Sullivan would have remained unknown.

It’s good to make mistakes, and here is why.
First of all, mistakes are a clear sign that we are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things because when we are trying new things,we are growing. If we never try anything new,how can we improve? The simple answer is,“We can’t”.
Another good thing about mistakes is that when we are making them,we are learning.Consider this—Edison failed 10,000 times before he perfected the light bulb. When asked how it felt to fail that many times,he said that he had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
When we make a mistake,we are much closer to success.Because every time we make a mistake,we eliminate one of the things that keeps us from success.
But all this doesn’t mean that we should go through life without considering the consequences of a mistake. Instead, when we try something new,we have to be willing to set some reasonable limits so that in the event that it doesn’t work out the way we want it to,we will be in a position to try again. We all have limited resources—in the form of time and money—so we shouldn’t blow them all on one approach to a problem. It’s best that we realize it probably won’t be perfect the first time and allocate these resources appropriately so we can learn, make corrections, and try again.Only by accepting and using our mistakes in this way can we make significant advances in our lives.
There is an old saying that goes,“If you’re not making mistakes, you’re not trying hard enough.”So go forth and make mistakes.
28.Which can be used to replace the underlined word "eliminate" in Paragraph 4?
A.make up for B.get rid of C.accept D.expect

A.We should ignore the possible consequences. B.We should accept the outcome willingly.
C.We should make some limits for our next try. D.We should avoid making the same mistakes.
30.What is the text mainly about?
A.Dealing with mistakes. B.Making mistakes.
C.Making progress. D.Benefiting from mistakes.
31.What may the writer suggest we say to ourselves when making a mistake?
A.Never mind,I tried my beat. B.Great! Now I have learned something.
C.This is a waste of time. D.Look at this mess.I should just give up.
D
Pollution’s serious effects on the environment have become more obvious in recent years. Most scientists agree that efforts are necessary to protect our environment from further harm.
As we know, the construction industry consumes a large quantity of energy and resources and creates a huge amount of pollution. So green buildings are in great need.
The environmental benefits of building green include the protection of ecosystems and biodiversity(生物多样性),improved air and water quality, less waste flowing into streams and the protection of natural resources.Green buildings can also result in lower operating costs because they typically use less energy and fewer materials and improve indoor air quality, improving the health of people who live there.
The process of building green includes technical and artistic planning with nature protection in mind.Building designs often reflect the surrounding environment and natural resources and use renewable building materials such as bamboo and straw. In addition, recycled resources found locally are used for green buildings, reducing the cost and air pollution associated with transporting materials long distances.
Careful site selection is important to minimize(最小化)human effect on the surrounding environment. For example, placing a structure in an area that allows it to take advantage of cool breezes(微风)and sunlight can reduce energy use and expenses.More energy and expense are needed for larger buildings as well,so it is important to build small.
Green roofs are another feature of green houses that reduce energy use and cost. These roofs are partially or completely covered with plants, which helps to keep heating and cooling costs low, prevent water running off and deal with pollutants.
Other features of green buildings often include energy and water protection, recycling and waste reduction. In addition, renewable energy sources such as solar power, waterpower and wind
power are used for heat and electricity, which greatly reduces costs and decreases the influence on the environment.
32.What can we know about green building?
A.Producing no waste. B.Only using clean energy.
C.Being made of new materials. D.Environmental friendly.
33.What is a green building probably like according to the fifth paragraph?
A.Large. B.Small. C.Green. D.Low.
34.What is the purpose of using green roofs?
A.To fit the environment. B.To keep warm. C.To collect nature water. D.To lower costs.
35.What is the text mainly about?

C.Building green. D.Ecosystems and biodiversity.

听力录音材料
Text 1
W: Now that we have your information, you can take a seat over there and wait with the rest of the patients.
M: Sure. How long do you think it’s going to take? I need to pick up my daughter at school.
W: It will be about 40 minutes. If you’d like, you can come back in half an hour.
Text 2
W: You know what? Let’s eat at that Indian place tonight.I’m feeling a bit adventurous.
M: Are you sure? You don’t like spicy food, and last time you had stomach problems all night.
W: I know, but there are other things I can eat.Besides,I have always been a big believer in second chances.
Text 3
W: What’s the matter? You seem to be having trouble keeping up,which is a little unusual for you.
M: I just have a little pain in my stomach.I might have had a little too much for breakfast.
W: Next time, save the breakfast for after the workout.
Text 4
M: How was your first day? Did the students like you?
W: I don’t think the students learned a thing. They were too busy staring at my feet.I had on two different colors of shoes. This is why I shouldn’t have gotten dressed in the dark this morning!
Text 5
M: Does it really make a difference if you put the baking soda in warm water before baking the bread?
W: I always used to in the past, but most modern methods say that you can do without that step.Just make sure to add the correct amount to begin with.
Text 6
M: Mr.Jackson is so unfair! I worked so hard on that assignment, and he only gave me a “B”!
W: Don’t be so dramatic. That’s not a bad grade at all.I can’t remember the last time I even got a “B” in science.
M: Well,I have to keep my grades up if I want to get accepted to Harvard.I’m so upset!
W: You need to relax. One little “B” won’t affect your grade point average, especially since you still have another half semester to go.
M: Maybe you’re right.I just have to take it one step at a time.
Text 7
W: There’s a football game tonight,so the parking lot will be closed. We can leave work early.Would you like to go for a bike ride with me?
M: Tonight? Have you seen the weather report?
W: No,why?
M: There is supposed to be a big storm. The forecast this morning predicted heavy rain.
W: Then maybe the football game will be canceled.
M: I doubt it.Rain or shine,those guys will play.There’s big money in football,you know.
W: I say rain or shine, those guys are crazy.Well,I still want to do something tonight. What are you going to do?
M: I’ll probably watch the football game.
W: Are you serious? You’ll catch a cold!
M: I’m pretty sure it’ll be on TV,Shelly.
W: Well, count me out.I’m going to the mall.
Text 8
W: Your father and I feel that it’s about time you got out there and found yourself a job.Have you completed your résumé yet?
M: Yeah, kind of,although I’m not really sure how effective it is.I don’t have any experience to speak of.
W: That’s okay. Most people your age don’t have any experience, either.Right now, you’re looking for an entry-level job,and most of the other résumés they will be looking at will be just like yours.
M: I didn’t know what to put under the “Objective” heading,so I just wrote,“To get a job so I can make some extra money.”
W: Well, that’s not a bad start, but you probably want to be a bit more formal than that. How about “to find part-time employment in a fun and challenging environment, and to gain valuable experience in the workplace”?
M: OK,now what should I write under “Skills and Attributes”?
W: Instead of writing “I always have good ideas”,maybe just use the word “creative” instead. And “I am good at many different things” definitely has to be changed as well.
Text 9
W: Hi Michael.Take a seat.I’ve called you in here to answer any questions you may have concerning your career planning.
M: OK.But I really don’t know what to tell you.I might take a year off after graduation to decide what I want to do.
W: That’s fine. Some people like to do that. But at some point, you need to make a decision about what you want for your future. What about work? Do you have a job,or do you plan on getting one anytime soon?
M: My dad works as a vet,and I help out sometimes on weekends. This summer,I’m applying at a golf course.
W: That’s good.Oh,I see your physical education grades are really high.Would you like to continue on with something in that field?
M: Yeah,that sounds cool.Like what?
W: You could be a P.E.teacher.There are also many jobs in event organization, sports injury and training,or if you want to work with professional athletes, you could be an agent.
M: My grades are too low, though.None of the universities will accept me.
W: That’s not true. And we can help guide you to which one would be most appropriate for you.
M: Really?
W: Of course. Why don’t you fill out this form and give me some more information? Then we can look at all the options available to you.
Text 10
Kevin has been using the Pomodoro Technique to help manage his time. The technique was invented by an Italian man who named it after a tomato-shaped timer his mother used when she was cooking.Pomodoro is Italian for tomato. This timer is the key to being productive without wasting time.Offices and factories might use this technique for work, but Kevin uses it to study.First,he breaks his work up into separate jobs, and then he uses a timer to separate his time into periods of busy work and short breaks. For example, when he writes an essay,he thinks about the stages of the task and writes a to-do list. Then he sets the timer to 25 minutes and starts working on the first item on the list. When the timer goes off,he takes a break of three to five minutes. He moves around during the break, and of course,he crosses the task off on his list. Then he starts another 25-minute work period.Do you want to try the Pomodoro Technique?Be sure to use a kitchen timer. If you use the timer on your phone, you’ll get distracted. In fact, Kevin turns his phone off when he studies. The method works because it keeps Kevin from wasting time. The short periods of work allow Kevin to concentrate, and he gets his homework done faster than before.
