Researchers have developed paper that can be printed with UV light (紫外线), free from the need for ink (油墨). People can clear the information away on the light-printable paper by heating it to 120°C and it can be reused more than 80 times.
The research was carried out in order to reduce the effects of paper production on deforestation (滥砍滥伐). The researchers, from Shandong University in China and the University of California, Riverside, said that the secret behind the technology is a color-changing chemical. A thin coating of the chemical can be used on usual paper and turn it into a reusable, light-printable one. Heating the paper for 10 minutes can help clear the information away more quickly.
Professor Yadong Yin, a chemistry professor at the University of California and a co-author of the study, said, “The greatest importance of our work is the development of a new technology to produce an ink-free rewritable paper that has the same feel and appearance as usual paper. Our work is believed to have great economic and environmental influences on the modem society.” Paper production has a bad influence on the environment. It’s the main cause of industrial pollution and paper thrown away by people makes up about 40% of landfills where waste is buried under the ground.
It is predicted that light-printable paper will be inexpensive in the future. The printing process is also more cost-effective than the usual one as no ink is needed. Most importantly, it can be reused many times, which greatly reduces the cost.
38. Why did researchers do the research?
A. To make more money by selling the paper.
B. To save more ink and more money.
C. To make people interested in writing on the paper.
D. To stop people from cutting down more trees.

C. The technology.
D. Ink.
40. What can’t we know from Paragraph 3?
A. The rewritable paper looks the same as the usual paper.
B. Wasted papa: is the most serious pollution.
C. The research will make a difference to our economic development.
D. Our environment will be influenced by the rewritable paper.
41. What are the advantages of the rewritable paper?
a. It can be recycled many times.
b. It can help save money.
c. It is environmentally-friendly.
d. It will help save time.

Living abroad brings many challenges. One of them is looking for the best way to get used to a new culture while not losing your identity (身份). In this process I have noticed that it’s very positive to keep in touch with expats, especially with expats from your own country. Why? Read on.
I have been in Germany for one year and I have had many experiences. Some of them were more positive than others. But when unexpected things happened, it was nice to meet with other Colombians to listen to their experiences. Through the talk, I have realized that others have felt the same, and that I am not the only one who has had difficulties. I also believe that they have taken something from my experience.
Colombians are really friendly and usually don’t have any problems with meeting new people. This has helped me to increase my social network quickly. When I arrived in Germany, I had two Colombian friends here, and I have kept in touch with one of
13
them who helped me to meet other people, not only Colombians.
Most likely, if you are a foreigner in Germany, your native (本国的)language is not German. This is the way it is in my case. My native language is Spanish and I really, enjoy speaking it. But it's even better when I can share my opinions, thoughts, and worries with other expats, or when I can talk about topics which would not seem interesting to local Germans. Besides, it’s possible to use jokes that only those who come from the same country or the same comer of the world can understand.
I like social networks and since I arrived in Germany, I have been connected with other expats through Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. On these social networks, I can communicate with others and share my experiences. At the same time, I also find interesting information that I don’t usually get in other forms of media, such as information about jobs, apartments, language courses, offers of Colombian products and events which are not in the local newspapers.
42. Who are most probably expats?
A. People who face many challenges.
B. People who have lost their identities.
C. People who love trying different cultures.
D. People who have lived in another country.
43. Why did the writer exchange experiences with other Colombians?
A. To get positive experiences.
B. To avoid difficulties he may face.
C. To feel less worried after knowing their difficulties.
D. To say something nice to make them feel good.
44. What does the writer want to show by mentioning his Colombian friends?
A. Colombians are really friendly.
B. Colombian friends can help him make more friends.
C. It’s very important to meet new people.
D. There are ways to increase social networks quickly.
45. What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A. The importance of social networks.
13
B. Personal experiences in a foreign country.
C. How to solve challenges in a foreign country.
D. How important to communicate with expats.

Dear Sandy,
I’m really glad that you can share your problems and feelings with me. Here is my
13
advice. First, it’s a good choice to take up a hobby to help you relax and reduce your pressure. Second, you can make plans for your everyday life. After you study for about two hours, you can take a walk outside and try to relax. Besides, don’t stay up late. It’s not good for your health. Third, never argue you’re your parents. You should learn to understand them and spend some time communicating with them. Discuss your problems with them and tell them your ideas. They will help you find better ways to solve them. In a word, you will have a happier life with less pressure as long as you study hard and often talk with your parents.
Yours,
Nancy
