Are you scared about moving up to senior high school? It can be a new experience, but you shouldn’t worry. We’ve put together a guide to help you in the first week.
You’re not alone
Remember everybody else in your year is in the same boat. They may not realize it,but they’re just as nervous as you are.Moving to senior high school is an opportunity, not a problem.Things are different and all you need to do is be polite and learn the new rules.
Teachers are ready to help
If you’re unsure what to do or are worried about anything, then ask for help.Teachers are probably the best people to turn to as they’re experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools also have a “friends system”.If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student.He/She will help you if you have any problems or questions.
All change
There are lots of differences between junior high school and senior high school. You’ll have a homework diary or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework for different subjects on different days,so make sure you get organized.Make sure you have a copy of your school timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different subjects.
Other points
If you’ve got an older brother or sister at the school, then ask them for advice.Be yourself! It sounds simple, but people will know you much better if you just act naturally.
Having early nights makes a difference and you’ll find it easier to get up in the morning!

I always feel sorry for world leaders busy dealing with fights between nations. When my three children were young, most days it was hard to keep my house from becoming a battlefield.
It got worse as they grew older.Three years ago,Zack, then 16,couldn’t make it through a day without making his sisters,Alex 11 and Taryn 9,angry.
My husband and I tried to be understanding the boy at such an age.We reasoned, punished, and left heartfelt notes on his bed about how he was hurting our family. His answer was “I say it because it’s true.”
I even tried telling the girls to fight back.Bad idea. Now I had three children at war.Whatever I said to them, they paid no attention. When there was no way out,I told everything to my sister,Mary,in an email. She replied,“Don’t email me.Email him.”
Our son was online every day, mailing and talking with his friends.Maybe he would actually hear me this way.I didn’t say anything different, but email just took the tension away. There’d be no shouting or door banging.Zack wouldn’t feel under attack.

Being a good friend isn’t always easy, but taking the time to develop a lasting friendship is worth the effort. As the years pass, you will realize that each friendship you keep is priceless. 36 To be a good friend and deepen a friendship, just follow these steps.
Keep your promises.
Don’t ever make a promise that you can’t keep.If you say you’ll hang out with a friend and an unexpected situation arises, explain the situation.Give your friend a gift and tell him or her you are sorry.Nobody is perfect, and it’s okay if you break a promise once in a blue moon. 37
Apologize when you’ve made a mistake.
38 Though your friend won’t be happy that you made a mistake,he or she will be very pleased that you admit it instead of just pretending that nothing is wrong.
39
To be truly supportive, you will have to be able to watch out for your friend when he/she is having a difficult time.If you sense that your friend is getting into some trouble, help him or her away from the situation by not being afraid to speak up about it.
Give your friend some space when he or she needs it.
Part of being supportive means supporting the fact that your friend won’t always want to spend time with you.Learn to step back and give your friend space. 40 Don’t be jealous (嫉妒的) if your friend has lots of other friends.
A.However, don’t make it a regular thing.
B.Help your friend deal with his or her struggles.
C.Learn to forgive your friend and move forward.
D.Of course,to have a good friend,you must be one.
E.If you want your friend to believe in you,you can’t act like you’re perfect.
F.Understand if your friend wants to be alone or to have a walk with other people.
G.Take the time to truly understand your friend when he or she is talking to you.

W: This must be a good season for fruits. Your tomatoes and lemons look especially good this spring.
M: Yes, this season has been unusually good. Sometimes I even take them to the market to sell.
(Text 2)
W: The performance will be on at 7:00 p.m. on weekdays, 8:00 p.m. on Saturdays, and there’s also an afternoon show at 3:00 p.m. on Sundays.
M: Great. Let’s take the kids on Saturday.
(Text 3)
W: Could you lend me a hand, please?
M: I’d be glad to. Where will you put this heavy box?
W: Down on the bottom shelf, and then it won’t fall and hurt anyone in sudden events.
(Text 4)
M: Please buy two packs of cigarettes for me while you are at the store.
W: I am not going to any store. I’m going to see Aunt Mary, but don’t worry, I will stop at the gas station.
(Text 5)
W: Excuse me, can I just ask you where you bought your shirt?
M: Oh, actually funnily enough I didn’t buy it. It actually belongs to a friend of mine. He left it at my house, and I haven’t told him yet.
W: It’s just that I think it’s absolutely wonderful.
(Text 6)
W: Well, there’s nothing very much wrong with you. Do you often take exercise?
M: No, doctor. I never have time for exercise. I go to work very early in the morning and come back very late. Then I can’t go to sleep even if there isn’t any noise. Can you give me some medicine to help me sleep?
W: I can, but I’m not going to. You don’t need medicine. You need advice. Don’t work so hard, and it’s no use worrying about your work. Take exercise every day.
M: But I may lose my job, doctor! It’s hard to get a job like mine.
W: Then find an easier one, even if you make less money. Which do you think is more important, health or wealth?
(Text 7)
W: Could you give me a hand? I’d like to rearrange my bedroom. I like to move things around once a year for a change.
M: OK. What shall we do first?
W: Let’s take the bed apart and move it out of the bedroom.
M: Will it fit through the door?
W: It should. I did it last year, remember?
M: Right. How about the lamps? Maybe we should move them first, so they don’t break.
W: Good thinking. Then we should move the bedside tables since they are small.
M: OK. Up to you. You take one and I’ll take the other.
W: You know, I think maybe it’s time to paint these walls. They look pretty dirty.
M: Don’t worry. It won’t take long. Do you think we should go to the paint store later today?
W: OK. Then we can have dinner together at the restaurant nearby.
(Text 8)
W: Hello, Martin. How are your exam preparations coming along?
M: Good, Miss Davis. I’ve worked hard for it recently. I think I’ll be ready for the coming exams.
W: Excellent! So, are you working at weekends now to get some pocket money?
M: Yes. I’m very grateful to Mr. Lam. He really helped me with my problem.
W: Mr. Lam said that your problem was that you had no pocket money. Is that right?
M: That’s right. I couldn’t go out with my friends because I didn’t even have the money for the bus fare. But I’m OK now with a part-time job.
W: So, you think the Students’ Welfare Club really helped you?
M: Oh, yes. I have no complaints about the club. I think you are fantastic!
W: Thank you! Any suggestions as to how we can be even more fantastic?
M: Why don’t you have a letter box outside the club’s room? That way, we can keep in touch with you even if we don’t get to see you.
W: That’s a great idea. It won’t cost anything to put a letter box outside. OK, thank you for your time, Martin.
(Text 9)
M: Overseas Travel Agency. May I help you?
W: Yes, my husband and I are planning a vacation to an island. Do you have any recommendations?
M: Certainly. Off the top of my head, I would suggest the island of Bali.
W: Why Bali?
M: At this time of year it rains a lot in most places, but it is the dry season in Bali. Also, there are many excellent restaurants and hotels to choose from. Plus, Bali is known for its surfing and diving. And I must say that the shopping is absolutely great!
W: That sounds amazing! Jason loves to dive and I love to shop and eat. Can you tell me how much it will cost for the two of us?
M: It will take me a day or two to get accurate prices, but I will call you as soon as I do.
W: Thank you. Will we have to pay for it right away?
M: I’ll need your credit card number to make a reservation, but you won’t actually have to pay for it
until you get there.
W: That sounds great.
(Text 10)
M: Hello. This is FM 98.6. It’s been another warm and fine day for most of us. Temperatures in southeast England reached twenty-six degrees Centigrade by mid-afternoon, and had fifteen hours of lovely sunshine. But already the weather is beginning to change, I’m afraid, and during the night showers will slowly move in from the Atlantic to reach southwest England by early morning. The rest of the country will have a very mild, dry night with temperatures no lower than fifteen degrees in the south, a little cooler — eleven degrees or so — in the north.
And now, let’s move on to the weather forecast for Friday and the weekend. Well, southern Europe will once again get the best of the weekend weather. Scotland and Northern Ireland will have heavy rain for much of the weekend and temperatures will drop to a cool seventeen degrees. Across most of England the weather will be cloudy but mainly dry with sunny periods. And when the sun does come out, temperatures could rise up to twenty three degrees ...

Firstly, riding a bike to and from school is very common among the students, for buying or repairing a bike doesn’t cost a lot.Secondly, parking a bike is easy and convenient in our school,no matter how busy the traffic could be.Actually, bikeriding is also a practical way to exercise and is environmentallyfriendly. What you have to do is just to keep a proper speed while riding.Remember to lock it whenever necessary. In this way,you will feel it simple and relaxing to ride a bike here.
Hopefully, what I’ve mentioned above could be helpful and wish you a fun time in our school.
