Bad teeth may be painful and it’s getting worse without treatment. They can even ruin your life. Illness of the teeth can find its way into the blood system. This can increase the chances of a heart disease or other illnesses.
Experts say good care for teeth should start at birth. Mothers’ milk is the best food for the healthy development of teeth.
But dentists say a baby’s mouth and early teeth should be cleaned after each feeding. Use a cloth with a little warm water. Do the same if a baby is fed with a bottle. Experts say if you decide to put your baby to sleep with a bottle, give him only water.
When baby’s teeth begin to appear, you can clean them with a wet toothbrush. Dentists say it is important to find soft toothbrushes made especially for babies and to use them very gently. Young children often eat toothpaste (牙膏) when they brush, so they should be carefully watched when they brush their teeth.
Parents often ask what effect thumb sucking (咬手指) might have on their baby’s teeth. Experts generally agree that this is fine early in life. Most children stop sucking their thumbs by the age of four. If it continues, parents should talk to their children’s dentist or doctor.

Researchers from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have discovered a new way of gaining (获取) the sun’s energy. A team from MIT has created a new technique (技术) of using a kind of special windows with chemical dyes (化学染料). The dyes help catch the light from the sun and send it to a special place in the window and then change the light into energy. The scientists say this discovery could change buildings into energy plants. It could even one day mean that the windows in our houses could provide power for our homes. The scientists say their dyes can produce ten times more power than the traditional solar (太阳的) board used around the world today. They also say that this clean and new energy technology could be available (可用的) within the next three years.
The idea was first developed in the 1970s but was given up. Scientists then found that too much of the collected sunlight failed to reach the places on the edges of (在……边上) the windows. Then the MIT engineers thought out the idea of using colored dyes to stop the light from escaping. At the same time, their method only requires cells (电池) around the edges of the windows. MIT’s Professor Baldo explained, “This special glass would let through about 10 percent of the sun to light up the room, and the left would be caught and used to create electricity for other fields. It would look like smoked glass because of the dyes.” He says the new technology could help fight environment change.
32. We can learn from the text that the dyes ______.
A. could also be used to get energy from plants
B. keep the light in the windows for longer time
C. produce more energy than the traditional board
D. catch more light from the sun in the daytime
33. What was the main difficulty with the new technology at the beginning?
A. Colored dyes on the windows cost too much money.
B. The researchers couldn’t produce enough huge solar cells.
C. Only 10 percent of the sunlight could be changed into power.
D. The edges of the windows couldn’t store the sunlight.
34. What is the main advantage of this new technique?
A. It can be used to heat the room in winter.
B. It is clean and good for the environment.
C. It saves people a large amount of money.
D. It can be used to make the room colorful.
35. What’s the purpose of the text?
A. To introduce a new energy technique.
B. To explain how to use this special window.
C. To encourage people to fix this special window.
D. To show the importance of protecting the environment.

第二节 书面表达(25分)
One possible version:
Keeping a Diary
Keeping a diary in English is an effective way to improve our English writing ability.
In the first place, it takes less time to finish a diary than other writings. By keeping English diaries, we can easily form the habit of thinking in English.
Secondly, we can practise using English idioms and useful structures in our diary-writing. If we have difficulties in finding suitable words and phrases to express our opinion, we can turn to English dictionaries or teachers for help. This is also a kind of learning. If we can keep on doing this, we will gradually learn how to express ourselves in English freely.
In a word, it is of great use to keep diaries in English.

(Text 10)
Do you know what the world’s highest waterfall is? You may say that it is Niagara Falls in Canada. Niagara Falls is very beautiful and amazing. And many people visit it every year. But in terms of height, the most wonderful falls in the world is Angel Falls in Venezuela.
The highest point of the falls reaches 979 meters. The height of the falls is so great that by the time the water reaches the ground it has already turned into fog.
One of the most interesting facts about Angel Falls is how it was found. The falls was named after an American pilot. His name was Jimmy Angel. In 1937, he crashed his plane near the top of the falls. That’s how we found it.
Angel Falls also inspired the setting of the Disney animated film Up in 2009. In the film, the location was called Paradise Falls instead of Angel Falls.
Angel Falls is located in a lonely jungle. Although a trip to the falls isn’t an easy thing, it is still one of the top scenic spots in Venezuela. If you have a chance to visit the country, you should not miss it!
