Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships don’t last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules: be honest; be generous;be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you don’t tell the truth, people usually find out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always count on one another to speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing and sharing makes a friendship grow. You don’t have to give your lunch money or your clothes, or enjoy, like our hobbies and your interests. Naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them you help your friend know you better.
Sooner or later everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve . Turning to a friend can be a first step in solving the problem. So to be a friend you must listen and understand. You must try to put yourself in your friend’s place so you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are ever exactly alike. But all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friendships, you must practice honesty. Generosity and understanding.

Do you like shopping? Or does the thought of wandering round the shops fill you with terror? For some of us, shopping is an enjoyable way of spending our spare time and our money. For me, it’s something I would rather avoid. Thank goodness for the Internet! It’s more convenient to buy CDs, electrical items, even food, from the comfort of your sofa. But that’s not the only reason:price is an important factor. We can buy goods and services cheaper online. But sometimes the problem is knowing what to buy. This has led to a type of shopping called "showrooming".
Showrooming is something I’ve done. I will go to a shop to see, touch and try out products but then go home and buy them online at a knock-down price. I’m not alone in doing this. Research by a company called Foolproof, found 24% of people showroomed while Christmas shopping in 2013.
Amy Cashman, head of Technology at TNS UK, says the reasons for this new shopping habit are that"people are lacking time, lacking money and they want security about the products they are buying". She explains that consumers are not only shopping online at home but they are using the Internet in store or on their smartphones to shop around.
But does this mean technology will kill shops? Certainly shops will change. They will have to offer more competitive prices or encourage people to buy more by giving in-store discounts or free gifts.
We mustn’t forget that buying in a shop means you can get expert advice from the sales assistant and you can get good aftercare. It’s good to speak to a real human rather
than look at a faceless computer screen but at least by showrooming, you get the best of both worlds!
28. The two questions in Paragraph l are raised to .
A. give two examples B. introduce the topic
C. compare different opinions D. get answers from readers
29. What does showrooming mean in the text?
A. Trying in shops and buying online. B. Showing products in a room.
C. Buying something in a store. D. Shopping on the Internet.
30. What can be inferred from Paragraph 4 ?
A.Online shops will disappear.
B.Free gifts will surely promote sales.
C.Shops need necessary changes.
D.Shops will be replaced by online shops.
31. The author’s attitude towards showrooming is .
A. critical B. neutral C. casual D. supportive
D
If English means endless new words, difficult grammar and sometimes strange pronunciation, you are wrong. Haven't you noticed that you have become smarter since you started to learn a language?
According to a new study by a British university, learning a second language can lead to an increase in your brain power. Researchers found that learning other languages changes grey matter. This is the area of the brain which processes information. It is similar to the way that exercise builds muscles.
The study also found the effect is greater, the younger people learn a second language.
A team led by Dr Andrea Mechelli, from University College London, took a group of Britons who only spoke English. They were compared with a group of “early bilinguals” who had learnt a second language before the age of five, as well as a number of later learners.
Scans showed that grey matter density(密度) in the brain was greater in bilinguals than in people without a second language. But the longer a person waited before mastering a new language, the smaller the difference.
“Our findings suggest that the structure of the brain is changed by the experience of learning a second language,” said the scientists.
It means that the change itself increases the ability to learn.
Professor Dylan Vaughan Jones of the University of Wales, has researched the link between bilingualism and maths skills. “Having two languages gives you two windows on the world and makes the brain more flexible,”he said. “You are actually going beyond language and have a better understanding of different ideas.”
The findings were matched in a study of native Italian speakers who had learned English as a second language between the ages of 2 and 34.Reading, writing, and comprehension were all tested. The results showed that the younger they started to learn, the better. “Studying a language means you get an entrance to another world,” explained the scientists.
32. The main subject talked about in this passage is ________.
A. science on learning a second language
B. language can help brain power
C. man's ability of learning a second language
D. language learning and maths study
33. In the second paragraph, the writer mentions “exercise” in order to________.
A. say language is also a kind of physical labor
B. prove that one needs more practice when he (she) is learning a language
C. make people believe language learning helps grey matter work well
D. show the importance of using the language when you learn the language
34. We may know from the scientific findings that ________.
A. there is no difference between a later second language learner and one who doesn't know a second language
B. the earlier you start to learn a second language the higher the grey matter density is
C. the experience of learning a second language has bad effect on people's brain
D. the ability of learning a second language is changing all the time
35. In the last two paragraphs, the author wants to tell us that________.
A. early learning of a second language helps you a great deal in study other subjects
B. learning a second language is the same as studying maths

D. you'd better choose the ages between 2 and 34 to learn a second language

Text 5
M: Did you study for the history test? You know it’s this morning, right? (5)
W: I know, but I’ve been busy this week studying for my chemistry exam. And the preparation for the English party took a lot of time, too.
M: Let me know if you need any help.
Text 6
W: Good morning, sir.
M: Morning. Just put in $40 of regular gas, please. (6)
W: No problem. Would you like me to wash your windows and check your oil?
M: Sure. Thank you very much. I’m going to go inside and pay. (7)
W: Actually, if you’d like, you can just pay here.
M: That’s OK. I’m going to buy something inside, anyway. Can you put some air in my tires, too?
W: Absolutely, but I’ll need you to drive over there when you come back.
Text 7
W: Hi, Jeremy. I heard that a piano concert will be held in our school hall soon.(8)
M: Yeah, (8)but it won’t be until next Friday.
W: That’s wonderful. I haven’t been to a concert since I went to the city music hall three years ago. Shall we go together?
M: Sure. Do you know who the pianist is?
W: The pianist will be Fu Cong.
M: I think he is the best.
W: Of course. And this is his second stop around the country.
M: Could you please get a ticket for me tomorrow? (9)
W: I certainly will.
Text 8
M: Do you want to go for a picnic with me tomorrow?
W: Yes, I’d like to. How about asking Jenny to go with us?(10)
M: Oh, no. She is busy with her dancing class. (10)You know, there is a big performance in a week.
W: Yes, you’re right. It’s probably not good for her to be dancing, though. Her leg hasn’t completely recovered from that accident.
M: Well, she wouldn’t agree. She is crazy about dancing. (11) Will you bring your camera with you tomorrow? (12)
W: I want to, but I lent it to Tom yesterday. (12)Do you have one?
M: No, but Mary has one. Let’s go and ask her if she’d like to join us.
W: OK.
Text 9
W: This place is so untidy! I shouldn’t have to be the only one who cleans up around here! What did you do all day today? (13)(14)
M: I woke up around noon, watched my favorite TV show, (14)and made myself lunch. What about you?
W: I worked late today, and then I got some groceries and picked up the kids from school.
M: Thanks. You’re the best. What’s for dinner tonight?(13)
W: Why don’t you make dinner tonight? I’m tired, and I have a lot of work to do for tomorrow.
M: I don’t really feel like it. It’s my day off, and the football game is on tonight. (15)Let’s just order pizza instead.
W: We ordered pizza last night, and it’s unhealthy to eat that stuff every night.
M: Well, let’s order some Chinese food, then. We can get some vegetables. The phone number is on the fridge.
W: You know what? I’m too tired to argue. (16)Chinese, it is.
Text 10 (第20题为推断题)
Hello, I’m Marsha. As you know, my work is a little different from other people.
So, I’d like to tell you something about my regular daily life. Well, I get up at about 10:00, and I usually have breakfast in the garden. (17) After breakfast, I sit in the living room and read the newspapers. I have lunch at about two, and then practice my violin in my bedroom in the afternoon. Concerts in Liverpool usually start at eight, so I go to work at half past six and get the train or the bus to the city center. (18) After the concert, well, I finish work at about half past ten, and then have dinner in a restaurant with some friends from the orchestra. I usually take a taxi from the restaurant and get home at about half past twelve. (19)Then I listen to some of the latest songs or read a book, and I go to bed at about 2:00 in the morning. And that’s my day!
